  Good device for Non-Audiophiles

  Summary: When I bought a new car, and decided to give away my XM radio which I hard-wired to my radio and used for it and my Ipod listening in my car, I wanted to find a new solution for listening to my endless collection of music on my Ipod in my new car. After some searching around, I found the iTrip. Now, I was always a little leary of using a FM Modulator of ANY kind for listening to my Ipod for the fact that I knew that while I'd get decent stereo sound from it, that it would alway be plagued by problems from the evironment, such as static, competing radio waves, and it would never give me really good sound.
  
  However, for the $40 price tag, it worked suprizingly well. While I can't attest to using it fully, with loading the software to access other radio stations from my Ipod, I found it that using it was very easy (just pop it on the top, tune to the station, and go) and that the sound quality again really suprized me.
  
  However, being somewhat of an Audiophile, I tested it on my stereo reciever at home. I would play a song that I felt had a very dynamic range of sounds & frequencies with the iTrip first, and then play the same song by pluggin a "Y" cable into the headphone jack and then connecting it to an analog input on the reciever.
  
  I found that while the sound was good with the iTrip in lower and mid frequencies, the frequencies that range along the 12k and up range were very muddy. (These frequencies that I am speaking of are those that give a kind of "shine" to a song.. like the "splash" of cymbals for example)
  
  Needless to say, I wound up returning my iTrip, not because I found it horrible, but because I will be getting another XM radio hard-wired into my car soon, and will use that for my Ipod as well.
  
  Bottom line, unless your ears are THAT sensitive, and you're a HARDCORE audiophile (you probably wouldn't be looking at this thing anyway).. I would strongly suggest the iTrip as a cost effective way of enjoying your digital music on the road.

  Summary: My cassette player recently died. I bought this hoping that it'll do an okay job. Once you find a station that is not being used, and you follow the directions, the reception is pretty decent. I figure with all of the road noise, the lower fidelity signal is not noticeable. It works well with a car adapter charger. Plus it works great on portable stereo players at work without a cassette player.

  Not Worth it

  I bought it. Took it home, followed the setting up instructions. So far so good. Everything was nice and working. Then, I took it into my car and bam, the reception was so crappy. My car antenna is to right side of the hood, so that's a pretty short distance.
  I was extremely disappointed.
  I took it back.
  A few weeks later decided to go for a direct to antenna fm transmitter. It's as good as the cd player on my car stereo.
  This iTrip unit is a total disappointment.

  Summary: I had no problem getting this to work first time straight out of the box. I wanted to do away with the "cable-cassette" interface I had been using. Didn't really know what to expect but was very disappointed with the sound quality. Its a bit like listening to a proper Hi-Fi after listening to the same music on your iPod. The iPod is good but it's light years behind a real Hi-Fi.
  Anyway, it's important to read the setup instructions on the iTrip website (doesn't tell you this in the box) as the iPod volume MUST be set between 50 and 75% otherwise the iTrip either wont transmit or will distort. When setup correctly it connects every time in the car and through my FM tuner. Range is about 20 feet. The sound is flat and lifeless, nothing at all like the sound through the iPod earphones which I think is pretty good for a non-audiophile setup.
  Bottom line is if you just want a fancy gadget that allows you to get rid of the wire-cassette interface in your car and just want a bit of noise while your driving the iTrip is fine. If you actually want to enjoy your precious music while driving then don't bother. Spend the money on a few CD's (or better still buy some vinyl!)

  Summary: I've used the iTrip for over a month now and performance is very nice. Works on my office commute, also worked on a long distance 75 mile commute recently without having to switch frequencies. I also took it to Hawaii on vacation recently to use in the rental car and it worked there as well.
  
  I tried the belkin earlier and it was a piece of crap. I had low hopes when I bought the iTrip but it works well overall.
  It has the usual interference and static problems that all FM transmitters suffer from, but not all the time.

  Great...when its in one piece

  Pros: extremely convenient, picks up signal easily. Great customer service in case it breaks, which it will

  Cons: Not built well. Same jack as headphones, so if you interchange the headphones and itrip, the plug will most likely pull out. I have gone through 3 so far.

  Summary: I had first purchased the Belkin version of the Itrip transmiter. I was frustrated at the lack of coverage in the belkin as well as the fact that it was larger and more bulky it just didnt go well with my ipod. The 2 aaa batteries for it didnt last long either. The pro to it was that it still worked after I sent it through the wash in my jeans! After that I got the itrip. I have found that the coverage is much better, it is much more prortable since it uses power off the ipod, i havnt noticed any sig. power drains. It also looks good with the ipod having similar design. The con is that it is more difficult to change freqs as you have to go into your Ipod song database and it also has a tendincy to disconnect if jarred especialy if you have a ipod case protector. Overall though i would choose this over the belkin.

  Summary: I have been quite happy with this thing. all in all it seems to work well in both country (central VT) and urban (NYC) areas. Occassionaly I will have to change the station but when i turn it off i tend to find the station i was using is probably the clearest on the dial. the operation is fairly easy. sometimes there are problems and i am not sure if it is errors on my part or the software. all in all i would recommend to people interested in these things
