The good: Unique twisting directional-pad design; slick new color scheme; new concave analog sticks; convincingly outperforms existing Xbox 360 D-pad; works well with vintage XBLA games originally built for D-pad controllers; includes a black play-and-charge kit.
The bad: Expensive; forces consumer to pay for play-and-charge kit; new face-button colors may confuse novice users.
The bottom line: The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller with Transforming D-pad is a must-have for 360 gamers who demand a precise D-pad response.
Pros: The new d-pad works much better than the old disk (though any other controllers d-pad does as well), included play and charge kit, better feel to the analog sticks.
Cons: High price, the new colors make the device feel like I am seeing it in greyscale, new d-pad and kit should be standard features on controller range.

Summary: For the kind of money they are asking the controller won't find many homes apart from those serious about their d-pad Xbox games or collectors of tech toys. On the one hand you get a well rounded Xbox controller than finally comes with a better d-pad and charge kit. On the other you feel like you just paid too much when looking at it in comparison to others.
My first reaction is to compare it to other Xbox controllers, what does it do that they don't? Not a heck of a lot apart from that really cool disk rotation. And then looking at my PS3 controller I really felt like Microsoft is ripping me off when comparing features. But then when you hold it and use it, it almost makes it worth it.
This is a hard to review device. When looking at it using facts and figures you wouldn't bother buying it, it isn't good value for money. But it has a bit of that cool factor that restores some points when you use it. This is why I gave it 2 and 1/2 stars. It is very in the middle and would be much better for those who truly like the new d-pad and greyscale coloring.
Cons: Color scheme is cool looking but lackluster and the absence of color is bland (just like what Apple did to iTunes (boring)). I honestly still don't know what's so great about the D-pad. Ridiculous price.

Summary: I think until I buy one of these, I won't get the frikin D-pad. I sort of get how it raises up into separate direction buttons instead of the circle, but is this really necessary?? Also the lack of colored buttons is probably confusing to some people who rely on colors rather than the letters (yeah yeah I know about people who are color-blind). I just don't think this thing is worth the $65 price tag. I could buy a pretty decent game or two crappy games with that much, or 3 used games (buy 2 get 1 free) when I shop at game stop before December 13th, haha (no I am not advertising them).
