This is a cult classic! Hard to find in any store, best found on the web. In Settlers of Catan, players try to be the dominant force on the island of Catan by building settlements, cities, and roads. On each turn dice are rolled to determine the current production on the island. Players collect raw materials to build up their civilizations to gain enough victory points to win the game. game time: 90 minutes players: 3-4 Ill trade you 1 sheep for 1 wood! ... PROS: (1) Modular design makes for a new board each time, keeping game fresh (2) Game design allows for wide variety in strategy and play ability (3) Multiple paths to victory (4) Ruleset has good checks and balances to make sure one player doesnt totally dominate too early (5) Durable game pieces ... CONS: (1) End game state isnt fixed and may make the game drag.

Pros: Endless strategy. Solid construction. Great fun.
Cons:
Summary: This is probably the best board game I've ever played. That includes Monopoly, Risk, Stratego and Scrabble. This game offers some of the most dynamic strategy I've ever seen in a game and the requisite "diplomacy" inherent in each round is enough to make politicians blanch. I've never had more fun being nice to my brother while stabbing him in the back 2 rounds down the road. My only real complaint about this game is that you need 3 or more people to play. Not fun as a 2 player game. Other than that, this game is no worse than Monopoly in terms of losing pieces.
