Summary: The first thing that come to mind is: how much turf do you have? Unless there is a physical or time icsntraont reason, I wouldnt get a rider until I got beyond a half acre. Then look at the contours of the area you are cutting. Riders are generally best on relatively flat areas that are run up and back. If you have to go around tree rings or have bed edges that are curved, youre going to have to use a push mower or string trimmer to clean up spots. While you are looking at riders, you should look at commercial grade, self propelled, walk behind mowers. Walk behinds generally get closer into corners and ride curves better than riders. A walk behind will WALK YOU around the property fairly quickly. You wont be pushing it. Walk behinds arent cheap but they are less expensive. Make sure you look at one with electronic ignition. There is a learning curve for turning a walk behind. Make sure that you get a demo even if its a dry run in back.
