Not a Good Modem - Inconsistent performance on MAC
by 3DMPXL on February 12, 2009
Pros: well, its ATT new modem !! Setup is simple, but really can't do anything other than run in in default mode and hope it runs, if your're lucky.
Cons: Does not work consistently with my MacBook Pro 2.16GHz. It does not behave normally doing basic stuff !! Loading webpages, the browser sits there for several minutes and partially loads the page with multiple errors
Summary: I upgraded to ATT 6Mbps DSL. All of a sudden my 2wire 1000SW started acting like I've described above. After several days of messing with it, I purchased a ...
Summary: I upgraded to ATT 6Mbps DSL. All of a sudden my 2wire 1000SW started acting like I've described above. After several days of messing with it, I purchased a Linksys router and configured the 1000SW in Bridge mode ( made a pass through) the problem went away !! Browsers ( Safari & FireFox 3.x) worked fine again.
Contacted ATT suipport -- After much time spent on the phone I got to 2Wire's Level-3 support. They could not help diagnose the problem at all. Their conclusion was there must a problem with the wiring !!! so they sent a tech to check it out.
Wiring and Sync signal is fine - I demostrated to the tech the problem: When I use the new 2wire 2701HG-B my internet connection is unreliable and with multiple errors on web page loading and on streaming audio -- I unplug everything and install the 1000SW in Bridged mode and use my Linksys wireless router, ALL works just fine.
The tech had no idea and was not able to solve the problem. He concluded there must be something wrong with my MAC !!! I'd say very unlikely based on my demostrations both the Tech who was here in person and to the Level-3 ATT / 2wire support people .. They all say their new modem is working just fine. I say NOT. It little messing around has taking over 8 hours of my time , and still not resolved. THANK YOU AT& T !!!!!!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Angst, that's all this is good for.
by incendo_umbra on January 17, 2012
Pros: Fits nicely in the trash
Cons: Unreliable, slow, ripoff. Basically it's an over priced piece of trash made to over charge AT&T customers.

Poor Downloads
by TruthSociety on March 7, 2011
Pros: Not a thing.
Cons: Download for wireless and/or ethernet is unreliable and slow on occasion. Sometimes it takes for ever to download a web page. This is extremely annoying. Received a replacement then had a tec test the speed to the router. 2wire is the problem.
Summary: Many users complaints. Don't Buy. Waste of money.

Poor quality
by larsdennert on November 19, 2010
Pros: It works with ATT DSL
Cons: Power supply burns thru large internal capacitor. Radio Shack has one w/ same uf but higher voltage. Modem shuts down or acts funny and reboots. Wireless interface to other PCs extremely slow 5-10mbps. DSL service very unreliable. Modem reboots alot.
Summary: Avoid it if you can! When the power supply burns out get a new one or replace the capacitor that will last.

What a disappointment.
by cskistner on July 22, 2010
Pros: With the rebate it was free, although I have not received the money back yet.
Cons: Consistently inconsistent. Software sucks.

Summary: You never know when this is going to drop service. I have had this piece of junk for 3 days and have lost my connection atleast 6 times...daily. This gets really frustrating when you can not afford the time to reload or are streaming media and you get the boot. AT&T needs to ditch this product and work with something else because they have to be losing customers with this issue. I feel bad for my Mac that it has to put up with mediocre hardware/software. If I were you, invest in something that works more than 60% of the time, that'll be twice as good as this 2Wire paper weight.

Terrible...seems to break right after warranty expires
by rcdarwin on May 7, 2010
Pros: This is my 3rd and last 2wire, they work well until the 1-year warranty expires, then they stop working. SHADY...not a shocker its all AT&T sells for DSL...awful
Cons: These routers break once the warranty expires, I have gone through 3 to prove it
Summary: Don't waste your money on this router - you will have to get a new one in a year

Doesn't last
by weehee1 on May 31, 2009
Pros: The modem was easy to set up and easy to use.
Cons: It just doesn't last. It works great at first but do your research before buying this modem - there's a defect with the power supply.

Summary: I had my first 2wire modem for just over a year - then all of sudden the power light went red and it wouldn't work anymore. I called tech support and after testing the modem in various outlets they determined that it was dead. The modem was just past it's warranty and they told me I would have to buy a new modem. I asked them why it died after just over a year - they asked me if I kept it plugged in all the time - I said yes - they said that was the problem, I shouldn't leave it plugged in all the time. This answer sounded suspicious to me, I leave my toaster plugged in all the time too but it's been going strong for 8 years now. So I bought a second 2wire and religiously turned it off while I was sleeping and while I was at work. This modem lasted for a year and a half before the same thing happened. I am without a modem again and just don't know if I can stomach buying a third from AT&T in less than three years.
