Painfully slow reciver

Pros: Visible (but small) screen , light weight, good batt. life

Cons: VERY VERY VERY SLOW!!!

(Slow: zooming, panning, routing, (and rerouting), slow to find places by spelling)

Summary: I changed my 62S to the eTrex 30, because it's smaller, lighter, and its specs are the same.
If you do a a comparison, you'll see that the 2 units share EXACTLY the same specs expect size weight, display, NMEA compatibility. The eTrex can receive Glonass satellites that the 62S can't.
Compare them yourself on Garmin's page! (which dos NOT say that the 2 unit's operating speed is different!!! (Due to the slower CPU and slower/smaller cache memory)

Unfortunately the operating speed of the eTrex 30 is a huge problem, that limits severely its usability.

Consequences:

VERY slow map panning, zooming, routing rerouting, startup time (with large maps installed)

If I leave the planned route the re-routing begins after passing 1-2 intersections. When it's ready, I the left the 3rd one (far) behind, so it begins again. It happens not only in car, but even on bicycle.
Searching places on the map is a pain. Searching POI/addresses by spelling is also very slow.

So forget the new eTrex receivers.

About me: I use GPS recivers for many purposes (Mountain biking, hiking, sailing /on see using bluecharts/, riding a motorcycle, in car. I owned many units (Magellan Spotrack Color, Garmin eTrex Legend and Vista, GPMSAP 76 (that I still have), Oregon 300, GPSMAP 62S, PDA based car navigation whit iGO my way cahrts (and used chartplotters on charterboats), so I think that I have enough experiences to review a GPS receiver.
