Don't know what everyone is griping about, mine's fine!
by anchorsaweigh on March 12, 2011
Pros: Touch screen, accuracy, quick downloads (even wireless), nice size, great windscreen mount.
Cons: None after one year of use.

Summary: I have nothing bad to say about my Garmin. I also find it irritating when people rubbish a product just because they happen to get a bad one. As far as three in a row? I think you're full of it; you're probably the type that would complain if your ice cream was cold.
This is one of several Garmin products I own, land, sea, and air, and I've never encountered any issues. When I do need tech support to figure something out, Garmin ALWAYS answers the phone and I ALWAYS talk to a real person IN THE US! I kind of like that.
At any rate, I highly recommend this unit. I would certainly buy it again, no question about it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: The first trip I use it, it was terrific one-way and to return that evening it was dead. The GPS would not turn on. My first Garmin GPS was in the 200-series and awesome. This one is a Garmin LOSER! I'm a road-warrior and depend on a GPS to do my job. Many of my work-related visits are one or 2x visits to a city. I can't waste my time or money on a GPS that is not dependable.

Summary: While using it on a trip, the GPS (Garmin Nuvi 1300) died and never turned back on. Luckily, we were able to return it because we only had it for a week. Thinking that it must just be that one, we got another one (same model). Just to be safe we bought a warranty for it. Just last week (after 4 months of using it) The GPS was charging in the car, and we turn the car off to go out for a moment, came back and the GPS wouldn't turn on.
We just went to go get it replace the other day. I hope this doesn't happen again. This is really an inconvience when you're traveling (relying on your GPS) and your GPS just dies! -
This is the worst GPS product I have ever used.
by PennStater999 on November 19, 2011
Pros: The product will find the destination if you program in the address, but that's the only Pro.
Cons: 1) It takes over one minute for it to load maps once on.
2) It has so little Point of Interest programmed in that it only finds about 1/4 of anything I try to search for
3) It does NOT give the quickest directions (I've checked the setting)Summary: I want to throw this piece of garbage in the trash EVERY TIME I use it. It NEVER gives the quickest route (and yes, I've made sure the setting ...
Summary: I want to throw this piece of garbage in the trash EVERY TIME I use it. It NEVER gives the quickest route (and yes, I've made sure the setting is correct). It always sends me through some stupid small city streets with traffic and lights and adds a ton of time to my commute. I've owned other GPS (including my iPhone) which doesn't do this. It so few Point of Interest built into the product that it almost NEVER finds any place I'm looking for. I always have to find the address with my iPhone, then program in the specific address into the GPS.
Because of this garbage product, I have vowed to never, ever buy a Garmin again. And FYI - the GPS I owned before this one was a Garmin and I had loved it.....but this changed my mind about the company.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

So far, so good. Best if destinatinon address is known
by ahard2please1 on March 2, 2011
Pros: "Where am I? " is best feature.
Intuitive override is tolerated - Infinitely patient when instructions are ignored - simply triggers "Recalculating"
4.3" width & power port perfect for Toyota Prius center console.Cons: Could not find Salinas, CA ! Had to use a Salinas Motel Brand instead.
Had to purchase USB Cable tor downloading up to date navigation data.
First 'free' download took 5 HOURS on wireless connection. Documentation was inadequate.Summary: During an unplanned visit (Funeral) to Orange County, CA without AAA Map; we could not find a certain destination in the city of San Clemente. Nor could local persons or ...
Summary: During an unplanned visit (Funeral) to Orange County, CA without AAA Map; we could not find a certain destination in the city of San Clemente. Nor could local persons or persons at the destination find us. We were stranded.
In the Hertz rental car we were using was a GPS device but without any instructions.
By experimentation, I taught myself how to use the device. To no avail until I called a relative and found out the street address.
The device found me, re-routed me several miles across town, called out instructions through an unbelievably convoluted street layout, right to the destination.
As we pulled to a stop, other guests were already leaving the 'celebration' party.
Although late, we did participate - the total cost of some $1,500.00 for the trip was not wasted.
That (mis-)adventure convinced me and upon our return to Napa CA, I shopped this device which I found at the local Wal-Mart.
Garmin seemed to assume a "....you know..." attitude on the part of all buyers; thus, the instructions were opaque, "...like man, you know..." will eventually mean the end of the Republic. Because I DID NOT know. The ad copy on the package was miraculously inadequate. So, for that matter, were the instructions inside the box.
This lack of disclosure was costly! Some genius at Garmin designed a marketing plan to meet or beat the competition, no matter what had to be left out. Thus, it was not mentioned that the navigation package in the device would have to be upgraded. Right away or else - a sort of "use it or lose it" proposition.
GARMIN failed to disclose the download time required - which I did because of the rapid obsolescence built into the Map Cards for sale at the nearest source. $100 +/- ?
Intitial Battery Charging took hours; just as well because the next step proved to be near fatal for the sale.
CATCH-22 invoked. The supposed "FREE" download could not be done without a USB Cable which I ordered on-line because GARMIN did not offer clues about the connections: USB "A" to USB Mini.
There were other hidden conditions as noted above - the one most important one was the reliance of GARMIN on street addresses. Some retail outlets were listed in the new updated data but many cities were not. Of course, once a user finds a place of interest, one can load the data into the device.
Still, in spite of these limitations, I recommend a GPS only because they are ubiquitous and taken for granted - like, you know man!
I would not recommend GARMIN to anyone because I cannot afford to buy the other companies products.
