Easy to use, fully functional and free traffic!
by Builtnhairy41 on November 7, 2009
Pros: Great screen resolution, easy to read maps, free updating of maps for one year and compact.
Cons: The trade off for free traffic are coupons that show up during rush hour traffic but that is the trade off for free traffic. A touch of the screen makes the ads go away.
Summary: In general, it is a great GPS system and the third system I have owned. Reasonably priced and has all of the features you really use. I love my 1350T!

This GPS started off to be a wonderful item.
by bgdaug on June 23, 2012
Pros: Even for a novice it is very easy to use very self-explanatory touchscreen but very picky where you touch it, try to be very careful to use the very pointed end of your finger if you have large flat fingers like mine it is a very problematic issue.
Cons: The last trip as I pushed the return trip button it told us our place of residence had moved to only four blocks away from where we had gone about 80 miles from home. It's a good thing I always know how to get back the peevish voice
Summary: It is a great device since I have never used another one it is the best one I have used if there are better ones I will find out later ...
Summary: It is a great device since I have never used another one it is the best one I have used if there are better ones I will find out later for the price $99 as a loss leader it was a bargain, and yes cumbersome to update the map but it has stopped a lot of the fighting in the Of the vehicle over where we are going. I do not argue with the Garman I just turn it off.

Did the job . . . with some problems

Pros:
- GPS works well most of the time - I found it easy to follow with clear voice annunciation of upcoming turns. The GPS did "get lost" when in downtown areas with high buildings.
- A cool feature allows you to display the speed limit beside your actual speed. I found this very accurate throughout California, Oregon and Washington states, but doesn't work for Canadian roads.
- Garmin phone support is good and they worked with me to solve several problems with their update software
Cons:
- Updating the unit's maps is a hassle. First, you need to buy a USB-miniUSB cable specifically for data. To get the current maps and device software you must download a proprietary Garmin Communicator Plugin to your computer. The plugin is problematic on Apple Mac computers - I experienced this and Garmin's support rep admitted it. After at least an hour on the phone with Garmin support I finally had to revert to Windows XP and go through a cumbersome process to get the updates downloaded, which took another hour.
- The unit works entirely by touch screen, but doesn't respond well to finger touches - often not responding, or responds as though I had touched something else near to where I touched. I found it worked best if I touched the screen only with a hard object - like a pen.
- Their search and points-of-interest references are woefully out of date. For example, when searching for fuel stations it listed numerous locations that have been CLOSED FOR OVER A DECADE. I also found their business search database to be very limited, usually showing the "spinning hourglass" for several minutes before I gave up.
- The unit had several intermittent software bugs, like: toggling between full color maps and one color maps at random; mysteriously rebooting itself while driving; and occasionally telling me to take a meandering and time-consuming country road detour when there were much more direct and safer routes available.
- The in-vehicle power cord plug makes a high-pitched squeal. I tried exchanging it twice and they all made the same noise. My car is quiet inside so I found this bothersome.
- Battery life is short (less than three hours) when not plugged into a power source if you want to use it on a bicycle or on foot.
- The display is impossible to read in direct sunlight. -
This is one ugly machine. Don't buy it.
by mcushing12 on March 13, 2011
Pros: Big screen. Some traffic reports. Voice directions
Cons: Not programmed to take into consideration traffic congestion in my area. Voice directions are often unintelligible and at times pronunciation is ludicrous. One cannot rely on it to get you from here to there quickly and with minimum hassle.

Summary: The first time I used this we wanted to get from Boston to a North Shore coastal town. Instead of leading us north, then east on Interstates, which would have taken about 80 minutes, it routed us through every congested little town between Boston and Beverly, like Revere, Saugus, Lynn (the main street!) and Salem. The trip took us well over two hours that way.
This machine is awful. I hope it's not typical of products from Garmin now. I had a 330c which was okay but then I mistakenly "upgraded". The local street atlas would be better.
Traffic reports tell us about slowdowns on different highways from the ones we're on, tens of miles away, not in our direction of travel, and are available only for metropolitan areas.
But that's not the worst. Just lately, we programmed a simple trip from Salem, MA to a restaurant in downtown Boston. Mind you, the machine was set for "automobile travel" and "fastest route". It routed us (I know this sounds ridiculous, but it is true and we have witnesses). through a cemetery, down to the water's edge (Salem Harbor) and then ACROSS the harbor (no bridge) with the instruction "navigate". and a red line from one side of the water to the other.
Don't buy this. I complained about the first poor function and got an unhelpful and meaningless reply from customer service. I am staying away from Garmin. Something bad has happened to them. I see other like comments from users.

Upgrade from a Tom Tom 720 Go
by cross2141 on February 7, 2011
Pros: This unit so far has been very nice. I have tested it on a couple of short routes, and it has performed very nicely. The maps are up to date, and will stay up to date for free. It is very easy to read, and see where you are.
Cons: Sometimes the screen is a little unresponsive. I have gotten lost in a couple of menus trying to change things. I wish it had bluetooth capability.
Summary: I do like this GPS, and am sure it will fit my needs. Garmin has always put out quality products in my opinion.

That being said, for it's features, the price should be a little lower. There are comparable GPS's units that offer more for the same price. My biggest beef is the lack of Bluetooth. It was nice on my Tom Tom, because it would find cheapest gas prices, construction info, etc... That was a feature I really liked that is not offered.
Anyway, that being said, I really like this unit. -
What a great device. I'd buy it again.
by Clicky2000 on December 5, 2010
Pros: Easy to use. Accurate maps. Great traffic service. Large screen, good definition. Love the lane assistant in major metro areas.
Cons: If you miss a turn the recalculation can be a bit slow at times.
Summary: I bought this unit over the summer to replace an older Magellan GPS. I have used it since in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Boston, and upstate New York. ...

A Failure - Not What I expected
by wwwcooper on October 20, 2010
Pros: It sticks to the windshield
Cons: Software and hardware glitches it makes it unusable at times -
Summary: 1. It resets for no reason or location
2. It spins the maps particularly at night - It made me dizzy
3. It jumps in and out of night display ...Summary: 1. It resets for no reason or location
2. It spins the maps particularly at night - It made me dizzy
3. It jumps in and out of night display - blinding at night to go from night mode to day mode
4. It gets lost or the maps are incomplete - next to lakes and roads not on the maps even with most detail
5. Loses information - maybe due to blanking out
6. These are the problems after traveling over 3,000 miles on major highways - and it flips out at the most inconvenient time especially on clear nights and days. Weather didn't seem to make it better or worse, Garmin thought cloud cover was a problem - not so - no clouds - no buildings
7. Problems noted in Nebraska westbound on I-10 at Pine Bluff then again in Wyoming 10 miles more west - North of Kimble Nebraska 4 miles out of town Northbound - again in Kansas on US 183 map began spinning while Southbound shifting from night to daytime to night at night and wouldn't stay in night mode - it was pitch black dark outside - it was like high beam halogen lights on in the car - Westbound I-10 from Lake Charles, La to Beaumont, Tx shut down 3 times in 20 minutes -
8. Tech support useless - tells you to redo the upload and reset - ok I did that seems to make it worse
9. Pop up ads are a joke - can't get the coupon out of the GPS - who thinks of this stuff a coupon - nearest place to use the "coupon was 200 miles away
10. Gas Stations and rest stops - Hotels - Food - have to punch off the map to see them and it shows the ones behind you in some areas can be 50 miles behind you - if you are driving you have to ignore the warning not to look at the device to see where things are - does not show points of interest rest stops - gas stations - food unless you make them a via or detour and maybe lose your destination.
11. Difficult to program a city as a destination wanted a street and address - I didn't know the town so punched in Main St or a Number just to get there.
12. Can't change direction of travel - Going south looked like I was going north all the time -

Summary: Used this unit first around town to test it out, and it was very accurate, and even had many roads that had just been built in the last year. Then took the unit on an 1800+ mile trip, and it accurately navigated the whole route through a number of dense cities with accurate exits, lanes and street details. The real-time trip calculation remained accurate to within a minute over 40+ hours of travel. Very easy to use and view during the trip and quick to enter a new location and get new directions. The voice prompts were accurate and well timed.
