Bad Unit. Failed within 90 days. Garmin does not care.
by rocket10s on October 28, 2009
Pros: Nice features like current speed limit.
Cons: The Garmins I have had do not last very long. After the sell Garmin could care less about customer service. I have had very bad luck with Garmin. Will try to find another brand. if you buy one get the return warranty from the store.

Summary: I do not like spending 350 dollars for a gps that will not last longer than 90 days. Then being told by garmin to send it in. It will only take 30 to 60 days to get it back. At that rate Garmin will have it for half the year and I will get the pleasure of using it for the other half. Thanks Garmin NOT!!!!!!

Fantastic GPS unit, better than any other in this range
by bae125 on August 8, 2010
Pros: Speed of calculations, reroutes. Thin and light. Great mount. Perfect lane guidance. Easy to update and to download extras, display is the best I've seen in sunlight, wonderful flat charging cord that lays nice on the dash, traffic reports
Cons: Slightly higher price

Summary: Bought this unit after having multiple TomTom's and recently a Magellan, this is by far the best automotive GPS I've had yet and I can't believe I haven't come to Garmin before. Every fuction is better than TomTom, a manufacturer whose products I still like very much, and years ahead of Magellan, a huge disappointment as far as I can see.
All I can say is try it, you will understand, it's very fast, easy and intuitive. As for the support, I have no idea what some of the other reviews are referring to, Garmin's site is everything one would expect. I had no trouble with updates, maps or downloads.
I am very familiar with Garmin from aviation and can see now why they do so well with the portable units, their quality and ease of use has definitely carried over.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Does exactly what it should for a reasonable price
by afilatov on May 19, 2011
Pros: Latest firmware is what makes this unit great! Accurate information, lane assist is very nice feature, No issues with receiving phone calls with the BlueTooth connection and Iphone after setup. Simple menu. Fast recalculation times.
Cons: May think your on a road when your not, if your very close to it. Iphone contact information does not sync, nor does it display the name of the caller. Could have more features since this is just a faster version of the old units. Out of the box it sho

Summary: I just used this on a trip from Las Vegas to Reno, and then to Lake Tahoe. It was easy to navigate on the unit when I needed to find something. Addresses were very accurate. Recalculation did not take me on a route that was way out of the way. For the money it is a good unit. The current prices make it a difficult jump to the next higher quality and feature set with the Garmin units. If you have the money then sure... get a much better high-end GPS. But if your looking for good features, accurate mapping, fast recalculations, and Bluetooth connectivity, then this unit will be just fine. But MAKE SURE YOU CONNECT FOR THE LATEST FIRMWARE UPGRADE! That's the key to having a unit that works, and one that works like you wanted it to when you bought it. Out of the box it's not what you would expect. I had to rely on this unit with my little girl with me and a nearly 500 mile trip from Vegas to Reno and did not let me down.

Nuivi 1390 LMT not really impressed
by Shadi_g on March 15, 2011
Pros: Life update, Traffic update (not so accurate though) Lock security anti theft, Bluetooth
Cons: Bluetooth very picky and erratic, slow, traffic update not so useful,

Summary: I definitely prefer my older 255W unit which unfortunately got stolen, Garmin seems to loose steam with the new generation. Bluetooth unit very random most of the time would not connect with my phone calling Garmin they confirmed they have only certain phones which are compatible although I have a black berry (very commonly used) I can not use the Bluetooth feature.
If GPs unit switches off while on a trip and switches back on the screen does not update need to reselect destination for this thing to wake up and reroute again.
Traffic update not so accurate almost useless completely disappointed.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good for the money

Summary: I've had a 14 series Garmin for over a year now. I rides attached to my windshield of my truck. I drive a 3 axle water tanker truck and go off road on some very rough terrain to get to railroad sidings. It shows alot of the dirt roads that I go on too. and stands up to the abuse of my rough riding truck. It finally in the last couple of weeks developed a line that goes all the way across the screen, just under half way down. Not anything that distracts or takes away from the map that I am viewing. I would and have recommended this and others to friends and co workers. Both trains that I chase use them also.

May be the last Garmin Nuvi GPS
by nick1usa on September 1, 2010
Pros: At first I got this Nuvi 1390T, it got start pretty quick and loved with their traffic.
Cons: Now it takes over a minute to get start, wait in the car, unitl it reday. It won't take any data during drving. Atleast 2 wrong direction in Los Angeles area I have encountered so far. 110 S to 10 E Fwy and from 10 W Fwy to SM Blvd., it told 405S
Summary: When I called customer service, the machine told me to wait for 30 minutes. So my time is worthless. Good bye Garmin forever

Great GPS with lifetime nuMap update
by xinqiu on August 13, 2010
Pros: This is my best deal so far: slick and light weight, bright and clear in display, lifetime FM traffic, lifetime nuMap update, lane assistance with junction view with a cost less than $250! I didn't discover any problem as other users found.
Cons: I still miss the voice command function as my old garmin 850, but I got what I paid. No much of complaint.
Summary: If you looking for an affortable GPS with primary functions, Garmin 1390T is the one!
