  Worth the Money to Add the Map Card

  Pros: Great ability to have tremendous mapping by adding an AccuTerra card. Solid GPS physical and software design seems to be easy enough to use. Great GPS lock. I even had GPS, WAAS and EGNOS going on the trail.

  Cons: Electronic compass seemed accurate but it was slow on the updates
  The map view settings aren't available in the Settings section. You have to know to look for them on the map screen.

  Summary: Was looking for GPS with best mapping capability and would still be versatile in the woods with a compass added. Garmin wasn't ideal for what I wanted to use it for. DeLorme was next choice - great mapping but the screens seemed too small. Magellan Tritons just seem too risky. And then I found Lowrance with these new GPS's. First, I had never heard of this company before so had my doubts at the beginning. What won me over was the AccuTerra mapping and the overall feel and usability of the GPS. I bought the Safari and the AccuTerra West card for $425 online and now have a great GPS with excellent mapping and 20ft topo contours. Nice!
  
  Software is pretty good. The touchscreen menus are a great idea but there are still some peculiarities about how everything is setup that take a little getting used to. Some of the adjustments are hard to find but am hoping that that will be improved with additional software upgrades. I am guessing that is easy to do with the current hardware and software platform.
  
  Compass looks good and seems accurate but man, that thing can be slow to update. I don't know if they have something in the software that keeps it from jumping around too much but it gives the impression that it doesn't read compass direction often enough.
  
  I did see this in a store before I bought it online so already knew it was well balanced and the touchscreen was usable but not too touchy. The corner lanyard loop is a nice touch but it hangs a little crooked because of it from a string or lanyard cord.
  
  Forgot to mention the GPS lock was very solid with occasionally picking up both WAAS and EGNOS signals as well. All in all, it seems to be a good combo with the maping card.
