This is not an intuitive device to use.
by mzurah on September 20, 2008
Pros: The accuracy seems to be good.
Cons: One needs to know the basics before you use the Triton. I didn't. There was not a definition of terms and the conventions take a lot of getting used to. I read the entire users manual twice and still am confused after trying all week.
Summary: If and when I get used to the Triton 400, I may change my rating, but thus far it is a very difficult device to start using with little knowledge ...
Summary: If and when I get used to the Triton 400, I may change my rating, but thus far it is a very difficult device to start using with little knowledge of waypoints, geocaches, etc. The instructions on how to use the thing are pitiful for a novice like me.

With a little help...this works easier than you think.
by JeffreySee on May 31, 2009
Pros: The product DOES work as advertised; a few updates need to happen, but once done, you'll be happy. Try this website: http://www.jungleghost.com/ and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Cons: Perhaps a little bulky. Other than that...

An expensive paperweight
by Antar25 on September 21, 2010
Pros: Nice bright display, quick to acquire satellites, easy to use tracks and trails. On line FAQ helps since instructions are useless.
Cons: Instructions pretty much useless. Even after several conversations with tech support I still cannot get most maps to display. A battery hog, does not get the 10 hours advertised. Mini buttons a pain to use. Route planning difficult.
Summary: Given the other problems, I would probably still be okay with the unit if I could get maps to show. The maps are present on the SD card, but the ...
Summary: Given the other problems, I would probably still be okay with the unit if I could get maps to show. The maps are present on the SD card, but the unit cannot use them. This makes it overall pretty useless for my needs. Several messages and a phone call to tech support has failed to address the problem.
After wasting my time with tech support, I finally, through trial and error, got some maps to work sort of. It actually works okay once you get the maps in. If I was looking to buy, though, I would avoid the headache of trying to get maps to work and buy a user friendly unit.

Buy a garmin instead, this is a horrible unit.
by mstranglr on July 1, 2010
Pros: aquires sats very fast.
Cons: Compass does not work, not very accurate, loading maps is horrible (if you can get them to load), Customer service reps are horrible foriegn workers that do not speak English, not user freindly at all, this unit eats batteries for breakfast.
Summary: I bought this unit to replace my old Garmin legend that I bought at WalMart cheap 10 years ago. That Garmin unit still works like new after 10 years of ...
Summary: I bought this unit to replace my old Garmin legend that I bought at WalMart cheap 10 years ago. That Garmin unit still works like new after 10 years of hard use, but lacks modern features, so I decided to try the Magellan Triton.
I simply like to map out my tracks on 4x4 trips, and upload them to TOPO maps on my computer. Sounds pretty straight forward right? Well not with this unit. I can't imagine anything being as user unfreindly as this POS. Features on the unit a slowly ceasing to function, so the quality is bad. I called customer service twice, but I guess you need to speak Punjabi or Chinese to get answers. Do not waste your hard earned money like I did. -
A beautiful piece of junk!
by skyogler on March 25, 2010
Pros: Style is nice, quick satellite acquisition.
Cons: Software bugs in almost every unit. Buttons are small and difficult to press--makes fingers sore very soon.
Summary: Bought one, took it home to find out the alarm sounds didn't work. Exchanged it, but the new one had a whole lot more wrong with it. Tried to ...
Summary: Bought one, took it home to find out the alarm sounds didn't work. Exchanged it, but the new one had a whole lot more wrong with it. Tried to update the software online, but couldn't get it to connect. Tech support only speaks Indialish which is very difficult to understand. Their recommended "fixes" do not work. Very disappointed in this unit. Now I read many others having same problems. Please do not buy Magellan. The company has obviously gone to heck.

Unintuitive hard to program poor customer service
by fittingman1 on November 4, 2009
Pros: The only thing nice about this product is that you can use rechargeables batteries. But the unit does not work so i guess it's does not have any qualities.
Cons: hard to program or load maps i should say impossible customer service sucks.
Summary: Impossible to load maps unit is small and very hard to use not user friendly at all. If you have a lot of time on your hands and like to ...
Summary: Impossible to load maps unit is small and very hard to use not user friendly at all. If you have a lot of time on your hands and like to talk on the phone with customer service then this is for you. On the other hand if you just want something that works fast and easy look elsewhere,

Poor product, bad customer service
by jsr5936 on August 2, 2009
Pros: Bright display, clear screen.
Cons: Buttons small, hard to press. Short battery life. Long boot up time. Accuracy sporadic, especially under tree coverage or even in the open.

Summary: This unit has a tendency to freeze up. Most of the time you can get it going but it's a nuisance wondering what it's going to do every time you boot it up. My beef is with the Magellan company itself. My unit froze 2 weeks after the 1st year warranty and I couldn't get it to boot up on my own. Magellan wouldn't budge on repairs under warranty especially after the first one I bought was defective out of the box. Thanks Magellan, good customer service. I realize others are happy with their's with no problems but get burnt and you stay away. No more Magellan products in my home!

Summary: Never owned or used a GPS before and bought this one to geocache. I though i'd learn on the way. I was disapointed to find and have confirmed by Magellin Tech support the directional arrow on the compass was malfunctioning. I took it back to Best Buy for a refund.
