Not practical for everday use.

Summary: This device has enabled me to use the usb port of my laptop computer to add a third monitor to my home entertainment/computer system using the monitor's hdmi port. Currently, the laptop's vga port is connected to a high-definition television through an AV receiver via an hdmi converter. The end result is that the system's computer real estate can be expanded across three displays. Windows can be moved among the different monitors, although only one monitor can have the Start toolbar. One drawback is that the monitor that is connected through this usb device will not display videos and runs slower that the other monitors. Sometimes, I can type faster than the system will process the input. Another problem that I have observed is that the addition of this usb device has created usb instability. The usb mouse will freeze sporadically while being used specifically on this monitor and lock up the entire system, requiring unsafe reboot several times during the day. Using the usb printer will also have the same effect whenever the print command is executed from the monitor attached to this device. Thus far, I have not been able to isolate and determine the cause of the instability. This device is attached to the laptop's usb port. The mouse and printer are attached to a powered usb hub, which is attached to another usb port on the laptop. All device drivers and computer system bios are current. Computer is a 2006 HP Pavillion DV9000. In conclusion, I am hesitant to freely recommend this device because of the problems.
