Try again CNET...
Pros: I think you missed it big time CNET! This card is an excellent value, all the newest games play very respectfully on this card.
Cons: If you absolutely MUST crank it up to 1600x1200 you sacrifice some quality. But you can't play any card at that res. unless you can fork out about $300 more.

More than i expected
Pros: this is so much more than i expected. I thought I wasn't going to get that good of results and i couldn't buy the 6800(spent too much on my new pc), but when i opened the box and loaded it up the first words out of my mouth when i tried doom3 was "holy cr
Cons: finding a con for the 6600GT is like trying to find a con for Half-life 2, IMPOSSIBLE

Poor driver software and instability

Summary: I have had great experience with Nvidia chip based card UNTIL 6600 GT. It seems in the heat of the competition against ATI, Nvidia definitely rushed the 6600GT out the door. It's power hungry with a OEM fan that's loud, and it has serious stability problems with my AMD Atholon 64 processor baesd computer. I had a GeForce TI4200 on the system with rock solid stability and swap in the 6600GT, games starts to have sound stutter, missing texture and video artifacts starts to show up. I have a 500W PSU and many fans inside the system and tried all kinds of tricks including buying multiple 6600GT cards and trying different Mobo with no avail. Once I get onto the internet user forum, I realize I am far from the minority on the 6600GT issues. The problems are intermitent and comes and goes like it has a mind of its own. Good performance when the card decides to work, but darn-right irritating when it decide to act up. Would advice to stay away. It's a piece of most frustrating hardware in recent memory for over 15 years of working both professionally and personally on PC systems. ATI cards are looking better and better everyday!!

Summary: Running on XP system with Athlon 64 3000+ chip...no problems...easy install...picked up drivers from NVIDIA on boot...update also installed with no problem. Big diff in video clarity, over old 5700 LE card. As stated, needs separate PS connection to operate properly! So far, all looks good.

Nothing comes close to this much bang for the buck
by vindog800 on March 22, 2005

Summary: If you are like me you would never in your life fork out $1000 for a graphics card and thus you and I would never see what all the fuss is about. I'm in a computer store looking to build one and low and behold there sits the 6600 GT on sale for $200. To me that’s even a bit extreme but I decided to try it out anyway, I mean it really can't make that much of a difference can it? Boy was I ever wrong, I had not played a video game since the mid 80’s having lost all interest in the Atari 2600, now teleport to now and the 6600GT. This card opens up a whole new world, a world in which the high-end gamers go and I was not going to ever pay for admission. This 6600 GT is like a backstage pass, it lets you not only join this new world it lets you participate in a big way. If you buy this card I promise you, you won’t stop there because then here comes Half-Life 2 and then Doom 3 and then…..

Summary: This card is amazing. It was well worth the $210 I spent. It plays anything I want it to well. I got it to even get a 3DMark score of 2500+ without really making any tweaks. I have it overclocked right now at Core Clock 520Mhz and Memory CLock at 1100Mhz. Plays Doom 3 flawlessly. Perhaps the graphics aren't as "incredible" or "amazing" as with a PCIe 7800 256MB, but for all intents and purposes it rocks. Plus Sims 2 and Sim City 4 look pretty damn good too. I had a Saphire Radeon 9200 before so yeah it's like night and day difference but all in all I am very VERY pleased with this card. It surpassed my expectations!!!

Carefree superior card for anyone but hardcore gamer

Summary: Best card for user who don't want to spend more on the video card than the rest of the machine. AGP 8x @ 1.5 volts so it is compatable with all socket intel 478 mobo's. I substantially overclocked this system and the card has been stable as a rock. Installed in a flash and plays nice with all the other components by harware and software. If you need more performance switch to PCI Express and spend a fortune.
While the Nvidia software interface offers less adjustments and features than ATI's catalyst, it doesn't take a lifetime to load or devour RAM in order to provide smooth operation. Just install and forget about this one and you will not be let down!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is an excellent card!
by sbt35 on September 2, 2005
Pros: TV output, great resolutions, fast 3D output, great 3D effects. Not to mention all the basic stuff (it does them near-perfect!).
Cons: None that I can think of.

Summary: I got this card because I saw a rebate on it. That was money well-spent, because this card can compare with some higher-end cards and it is great for the average buyer.
The speed that this card performs at is great. I've encountered no crashes using this card and the resolutions that this card puts out are phenomenal. It can handle most any 3D games on the market.
I highly recommend this card.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
