Summary: I bought this Ipaq as a result of the many rave reviews here. I found the product to be simply amazing in many ways. Previous owner of an advanced Zaurus by Sharp and a fancy Cassiopeia (sp?). They sync'd well. This one doesn't. It's supposed to update the handheld when you update MS Outlook -- with contacts, appts., etc. But I couldn't make it do it consistently. Sometimes, it would immediately update, but most of the time, I couldn't MAKE IT update. I took it back, disappointed.

That definitive Pocket PC sure sucks now...
Pros: I have been using the iPAQ 3950 for a while now (check for a review several reviews below). This device has been in use for over 7 months now.
Cons: This device has been replaced 1 time for a defective SD slot, repaired the second unit 2 times for SD slot defectives again and is now being haggled over a faulty black top, microphone isn't working. iPAQ quality has gone down the toilet with the 3950, st

Bad Power Button
Pros: Great... filled with features.
Cons: Power button. If you use the power button too much, it gets screwed up..

Summary: Well where should I start... the screen number one and then everyone follows, I wonder why. I will said that I got all the software that I need but I got games and MP3 player for free on the net. With the software that was included: word, excel and outlook with a known OS, I have a small living area so the remote control works great. WMP its ok for my digital comcorders movies with mpeg quality and movies downloaded from the internet. Ipaq Image viewer work great with my pictures. It has 5 ways to wright into the PDA compared to palm wich I never got, with mine I wright the same way that I will do on a paper and transcriber recognize 98% of the time my wrighting. The feature to record massages its great. OK I left the best for last, I get my email when I sync with USB connection and I still don't know how to get hotmail via USB but, how 'bout getting internet not just at home but anywhere, I have a NOKIA 8390 GPRS and I got the phone for the internet (yeah right!) and as you know, these never work at all but, when I saw at attws.com how to set up the Ipaq 3955 with my phone, the PDA became my movil office, they (nokia and Ipaq) connect via infrared, and MSN has a Movil page with traffic, weather maps and more, did I mention that MSN massenger works great, I can almost go to any page on the net(ebay, MSN, CNN, etc) the screen its small but it works better than most phones out there. I got a lather case at ebay that works great for me.

Summary: After some debating I decided to choose this PDA over Toshiba's e740. I liked the extra built in CF expansion of the Toshiba, but the Wi-Fi just seems to be a gimmick for "most" PDA owners. I consider the feature to be on par with those seeking digital stills from a camcorder. It sounds great, never works as well as it should, then you get bored with it. Battery life is an important feature with all PDA's, and I chose the Expansion Plus with CF and auxiliary battery to kill two birds with one stone. Now I have a solid performing PDA with a beautiful display. Battery life won't be a problem and those now cheap CF cards will offer plenty of extra storage. The combined unit is not as bulky as one might think, and the expansion pack supplies a nice swing-away protective cover for the screen. I'm sure the e740 is a nice unit as long as you don't constantly have to hard boot it like I hear others mentioning. I still think it's insane to spend anything over $400 that does not have what seems to be infinite expandability like the iPAQ's have. Personally I think the criticism towards the iPAQ is jealousy that it has so many options available to it.

Summary: Just bought one yesterday for 324.00 at CompUSA. I had the Toshiba E740 for about a month. It is a good PDA but has some flaws. I have noticed alot of people complain the Ipaqs only have the one expansion slot, I have found that that is all that I need.(as far as memory is concerned.) I personally think that build quality is equal. Ipaqs have a much better screen though.(The can not be compared.) I have my brightness(Ipaq) set 4 bars from off and the display is still crisper than my E740. With that setting alone I get 12 hours of battery life. I did not get more than 4 hours on my E740 and thats with the Wifi off. The intergrated wifi on the E740 is nice but it does not have a good range and cuts battery life down to around 2 hours. The real deal breaker for me is the pcmcia option. I would much rather have a 5gig hard drive than a 1gig microdrive (they cost about the same.) Yes the Ipaq will be bulkier than the E740, but it is still cheaper, has better battery life, more portable and almost as functional as an entry level laptop. The main point is this is a very functional, and reliable PDA. Although I would not spend 500 dollars for one. It is definitely worth 400. I hope my comments are of some help. Good day.

Summary: Much of my comments may be as much about the PocketPC OS as about the IPaq itself. Although my 3970 has a 400MHz processor compared to the Palm PDAs it is so much SLOWWWER!!! To save a simple memo takes 1-2 seconds. On Palm it is almost instanteneous. Worst part is that the PocketPC OS HANGS just like Windows! I've used Palm for several years and it probably only hangs onces or twice a year. Now my IPaq hangs that many times in a week! When I look up my Contacts on the IPaq, I can't see the entire phone number if it is longer than what is alloted on the screen width (e.g. phone number with country code, area code, extension ...). To see the entire phone number I have to open the contact, go into Edit mode, go to the phone number field and scrollll. I hope there are simpler ways but so far I havent found any. The point is something so basic should not take so much work to figure out! Did you know that your files cannot be sychronized with the SD memory card directly without 3rd party software? For my photos, I first sync to the main memory, then use the File Explorer to Cut & Paste it to the SD Memory - Can't believe it but it is true. PocketPC applications also takes much more memory than Palm apps. Don't be fooled by the specs - 400MHz, 64MB (IPaq) versus 66MHz, 16 MB (Palm) - We are not comparing apples to apples. My IPaq runs much slower than my old PalmV in basic operations like opening Calendar, Look up Addresses, Saving Notes, ... I know some of you IPaq lovers will hate me but I really tried to love my new IPaq. Everyday I'm disappointed. It does a lot more than my Palm V but it doesn't do anything very well.

Summary: It is amazing how many people give reviews when they don't even own the product they are 'reviewing'. I love my Ipaq and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have no use for Bluetooth so that isn't an issue for me and if I need more memory I can add a SD card. I think we can all agree that the screen is great so I won't spend a lot of time there. The unit is simple to use and the programs are helpful. I can pull up the information I need quickly and get from oneprogram to another easily. I work on an ambulance and I need to be able to pull up reference information quickly. This unit is perfect and works much better then the Palm m515 that I used previously.
