Bad bet -- don't bother
Pros: Great features, very funcitonal when operating properly.
Cons: I have two of these, and both have been problem. One has been reparied (or replaced) three times, and issue seems to be buggy WiFi. On other, screen is frozen -- taps won't work. But worse thing is lack of support access. They are in the business of makin

WiFi the Biggest Problem
Pros: Built in Keyboard, good speed, plenty of memory for many programs.
Cons: Palm showcases the WiFi capabilities of the Tungsten C and its VersaMail program. Since the ROM update was installed to fix WiFi problems I have never been able to connect to any wireless service. VersaMail has never worked except to synch with my desktop

Great HandHeld...Love Using The Keyboard, Always Hated Graffiti Mode :-(

Summary: I upgraded from a Tungsten Visor Prism and entered a totally different world with the Tungsten C. My choice was made 1rst with the keyboard, then memory and I got a great price buying it through Audible.com $100 off.
I only wish it had a built in software to run apps from my SD Card. I presently used a 3rd party software for this. All data is stored in SD, but the programs have to be in the main memory. Thats why I wish they went the extra step and had 128-256MB of internal memory for more apps.
Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10. Palmtop has made a great keyboard, good sized data center. I'd be lost without it.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Getting support of my units has been a nightmare. It is an insulting and demeaning experience which shows Palm?s complete lack of respect for their users. STAY AWAY FROM PALM unless you?re prepared to buy a new one as soon as it either: (a) dies suddenly for no apparent reason, or (b) its flimsy cheap plastic case cracks. Over three hours on several calls, speaking to several level one support staff with no way of escalating to more knowledgeable staff. They invariably have little understanding of English, especially if it involves a problem which is not on the script they have been trained for.
Flimsy plastic cases which succumb to stress fractures have been a Palm problem in several models I have owned - this one is no exception.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best All-Around PDA
by sct100 on April 21, 2007
Pros: WIFI, Thumboard, Blazing Fast, faster than anything out there even in 2007!!
Cons: Not an alternative to iPod; Breaks Easily (as do all PDAs). No longer made :-(

Summary: I'ved used a Tungsten C for three and a half years (as of April 2007) and, though I have been through a few of them (most under warranty), I don't want any other non-phone unit. It is the best of the standalone PDAs. Its 400 mghz processer is the fastest Palm OS unit out there and the thumboard makes writing emails, and even reasonably long documents, a snap.
WIFI and the thumboard are the jewels of this device. The WIFI radio sniffs out available connections and connects quickly. It worked on the first try out of the box and everytime since. The screen is STILL bright and easy to read. The TC takes a 1 gig SDA card, which is more than one would ever need for non-music files. There are loads of good software titles out there for every conceivable use and, since it uses the same Palm OS as the ubiquitous Treo, they are readily available and up to date. The battery life of the TC is also excellent for a unit with WIFI. I can use it all day, including considerable WIFI usage, without the battery going dead on me.
Given my druthers, I would rather have a Treo. However, I am too cheap to pay the $45/month data charge that every wireless provider charges. However, I've never had problems finding good, free, WIFI hotspots wherever I've traveled and have been able to keep up with email and surf the Internet wherever I've been. The TC is a great alternative to a Treo for those who are cheap like me and those whose non-PDA cell phones are provided by their employers. (Not to mention those who just don't want a PDA phone.)
I bought a Palm TX once when one of my TCs broke. Palm still makes and sells the TX. While that is a nice unit, and it does music quite well, it was no substitute for the TC, its thumboard and the TC's SPEED! The TX, as with all of the Palm OS Treos, uses a 333 mgz processor, which is a lot slower than the TC. With the TX, I would select a new app, or click to update a spreadsheet, and the thing would go blank and stay that way for what seemed like eternity. (I, too, sometimes went white with fright at the possibility of losing an important document!) Do the same on the TC and there is no wait; it calculates, or opens the app, instantly. There is simply nothing else out there this fast. (I don't know why Palm doesn't use the 400 mgz processor in every device.)
Incidentally, how did I find a TC in 2007? I bought broken units and built it from parts, thanks to a 15-year-old son who taught me how.
I am, btw, an attorney and I rely on my TC to read cases, memos, briefs and to do legal research via WIFI and the Internet. Although it isn't practical for writing very long documents, I sometimes use it to edit documents I did on a PC.
I won't go out of the house without my Tungsten C. I also won't go without a good supply of parts to keep mine going for as long as I can, since there is nothing else out there (in a non-phone PDA) I would want.

You are wasting your money. DO NOT BUY.

Pros: free software; SmartList software; Wifi (sometimes)
Cons: Weak WiFi, Horrible Screen life; Bad keyboard; Short battery life

History of why my opinion may be of value. You can skip the next three paragraphs for the actual review.
I brought my first palm in 1998 because of a contract job requirement to program on palm pilots.
I had a plam IIIc, whose battery failed in less than one year; a 130C whose battery charged for less than 10 hours a day regardless of use. The replacement batteries for each of these devices was expensive and just as faulty. I am particular about charging my other devices (camera, phone, laptop) and NONE of the other devices failed as quickly as palm batteries.
I was hooked to the notion of notes, diary, phonebook all in one and did not want to switch. So I got this Tungsten C. Should've learned my lesson.
The *only* reason I kept up was that I have more than 800 contacts, programs and project information in Word, PowerPoint, etc. and I could not afford to switch
Now why you should NOT buy this device:
The screen is EXTREMELY fragile. I have had the screen break twice for NO apparent reason. I was using the keyboard and I don't press very hard on the chiclet(sp?) keys. The thing cracked with an audible sound.
Palm took several weeks to fix it and did not cover the screen in the warranty. I brought direct from them so I did not have a store extended warranty. The warranty guy was sitting in India and could not give me an effective date of delivery.
I will not bother to get the screen fixed again. The thing is junk compared to other devices on the market.
The WIFI range is TERRIBLY SHORT. The newer ad Hoc networks (w/ cisco routers) throw the WIFI software for a loop which requires a reset. The browser software is outdated, and even Eudora does not work on this device. The only site I could get to work on this was hotmail and that too in text mode.
The WIFI chews up battery at an INCREDIBLY fast rate. I could not browse for more than 1/2 (half) an hour before I required a recharge. A call to the cheerful support staff (in India! I can guess the accent) confirmed that browsing and searching for WIFI hotspots blows away the battery.
This is unacceptable for a traveller. Arrgh.
Having said all this. I must also comment on the software.
I used the documents to go package which came with the device and occasionally I would lose documents. A sixty-nine (or so) upgrade to the next version of the "Documents to Go" fixed this nightmare.
The bottom line is that devices from palm are wholly unreliable. They have failed to work as advertised (especially WIFI and screen life.)
DO NOT WASTE THY MONEY. GET A PAPER DIARY BEFORE YOU BUY A PALM. IT IS NOT WORTH IT.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Perhaps one of the most advanced yet under rated Palm products out there.

Summary: - Using this Palm has made my life as a student easier than before. I used to have to take my laptop anywhere in order to edit documents, send e-mails, create Power-Point presentations. With the Tungsten C you can combine all this within pocketable convenience. With the appropiate software, you can expand this little machine to become your word processor, dictionary, web browser, e-mail utility, even instant messaging tool. It is one item a person who lacks organization in such a busy life comes to appreciate even at the palm of your hands.

A very good upgrade
by roriehaine on March 1, 2005
Pros: A very good upgrade from the Tungsten E, the fast processor and WiFi capability makes for ease of surfing and email. The keyboard is an ease to type on as well as the Graffiti2. I'm very happy with it
Cons: During the upgrade I had the pleasure of dealing with Palm's support staff! The Tungsten C would not read the expansion card. It ended up - starting from scratch and reinstalling everything

very usefull
Pros: No problems. Well thought out design and features. I use it in my medical practice.
Cons: I have not had to deal with Palm's support service. Their reputation is not good. However, all the PDA companies suffer the same support (lack thereof) reputations. Always buy the upgraded service plans.
