The bad: Support hours are limited and customers must pay a toll for calls to support. The bottom line: The LaCie d2 Quadra is a capacious and speedy drive, with lots of connection options. Description: This LaCie D2 is a 500GB, external hard disk drive. Compared to other external hard drives on the market, it is midpriced at around $195. Connects via either FireWire or USB 2.0 for increased flexibility. This is a 7200 rpm drive and comes with a 16MB cache. Pros: Has a 500GB capacity, which is somewhat larger than some similarly priced hard drives. By way of comparison, the typical cost of a product with this large a capacity is $280. Also, this hard drive has a 16MB buffer, which is larger than some similarly priced hard drives. By way of comparison, the average cost of a product with this large a buffer is $240. This drive comes with a Serial-ATA controller interface -- one of the fastest technologies for data transfer. Connects to your PC via high speed USB 2.0 or FireWire cables. This product can also connect to USB 1. X ports, though you will not be able to take advantage of the higher transfer rates offered by the newer interfaces. Cons: None noted, given available product data. Suitability: Suited for those who don't want to take apart their computer to add another hard drive -- just plug it in.
