The good: The BlueAnt S1 has a compact design, with features like the ability to answer calls with your voice, multipoint technology, A2DP stereo Bluetooth, and automatic reconnect. It has very good call quality as well.
The bad: The BlueAnt S1 won't replace your car stereo speakers in terms of audio quality, the volume rocker is a bit stiff, and it won't read incoming caller ID like the Supertooth 3.
The bottom line: For the price, the BlueAnt S1 is an excellent Bluetooth speakerphone with great features and performance.

Works as advertised, but with room for improvement.
by BruceGWa on February 11, 2010
Pros: After pairing with both phones I carry, the S1 on it automatically reconnects quickly when I get back into my car. The S1 is loud enough that I can hear it well when my car is noisy. Battery life is good for my usage patterns.
Cons: Callers complain of clipped words or distortion, which are not evident on my end. It is awkward to transfer a call back to the hand set. The S1 does not work well with direct connect - you still need the handset push to talk button.

Summary: I bought the S1 to use in my car - I like the idea of keeping the transmitter away from my head when I can and complying with the local hands free law. A major reason for selecting the S1 was to use the multipoint feature, which allows simultaneous use with two hand sets and works well. The S1 handles incoming calls from two hand sets seamlessly. Pairing was easy. I am not a power user, and get several days use from one battery charge, even leaving the S1 powered on continuously so that it automatically reconnects when I get in my car.
Downsides: Callers complain of clipped words and distortion. Those that are used to first generation blue tooth devices seem to be more forgiving, and everyone seems to be able to understand me with some effort, but sound quality on the other end leaves room for improvement. Voice mail tests have glitches and clips that were consistent between both phones that I use (LG LX400 and Motorola Moto 330). The clips and distortion are less if I speak loudly and position the speaker directly in front of me on the visor. In my experience a good bluetooth headset works better than the S1in this regard.
Tip : Everything seems to work best when the volume on the handset is set to about 80 percent, and the volume on the S1 is set to the level I need based on background noise. If volume on the hand set and / or the S1 are at max distortion becomes worse.
I went back and forth about whether to keep the S1. It has some drawbacks, but it works. It is a keeper for me.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good quality speakerphone
by mpalmtiesta on November 14, 2009
Pros: Reconnects automatically when you come back in the car. Sweet!
Great speaker, good enough to listen to mp3 or podcast.
Natural outgoing sound, good noise suppression.
Can answer a call by saying "answer" or "accept".
Standby time of 30 days... Wow!Cons: Although you can answer a call by voice command, you have to press the red button to end the call, or wait 10-15 seconds for the timed disconnect.
Needs a long 5 seconds button press to power off.
No car charger, only home charger.Summary: Excellent unit at a reasonable price, nice design with rounded corners, great sound quality and solid bluetooth connection to multiple phones makes this unit a great deal.

One feature I love is that the speakerphone automatic reconnects to your phone after going away and coming back into the car. With my previous hands-free (a headset) I had to power it off-on and wait 30 seconds to reconnect. It's also good at staying connected.
I think using a speakerphone in a car is more practical than wearing a headset, except if other people are in the car, of course, better say "you are on the speakerphone, honey. -
Acceptable Design, failed execution
by trader_dave on September 21, 2009
Pros: Paired with our two blackberries, decent battery life
Cons: After several hours of successful use, the units speaker inexplicably failed. Callers could hear us, but we would hear a few words and then .... nothing.
Summary: Internal speaker failed after a few hours use. Even after resets and multiple re-pairings.

Dead On Arrival / Sub Par Customer Support
by IFLYMAUI on August 19, 2009
Pros: Battery life is very good.
Cons: Speaker failed after just minutes of use. We did RESETS per the manual but to no avail. Would not function in the PUSH BUTTON to accept call mode or the VOICE activated mode either.
Summary: BlueAnt products were once great but the recent additions of both this S1 speakerphone and the sub-standard new earpiece Q1 (dismal sound quality) makes BlueAnt products no longer a consideration.
