Jabra SP700 speakerphone price range: $59.00 - $80.85

The good: The Jabra SP700 is able to stream music wirelessly via stereo Bluetooth, and has an FM transmitter so you can use your car's stereo to get better audio quality. It has voice announcements for speakerphone status and caller ID. Call quality is good.
The bad: The Jabra SP700 lacks a dedicated power switch, and we would've liked some kind of music controls on the unit.
The bottom line: The Jabra SP700 has a number of innovative features that step it up above other affordable speakerphones.
Most Bluetooth speakerphones for the car are meant for hands-free calls and that's it. The Jabra SP700, however, is one in-car speakerphone that is also compatible with stereo Bluetooth. This means you can stream music wirelessly from a stereo Bluetooth-capable phone to the SP700. And if you want better sound quality, the SP700 even has an FM transmitter that lets you pipe in the audio via your car's stereo. The Jabra SP700 has a retail price of $90 but can be found online for around $50.
The Jabra SP700 follows in the footsteps of Jabra's previous speakerphone, the Jabra SP5050, in terms of minimalist style. Measuring 3.3 inches long by 2.12 inch wide by 1.2 inch thick, the SP700 is one of the slimmest speakerphones we've seen. It has a pretty flat shape, with an oval, egg-like appearance when viewed from the front. Dominating about three-fourths of the surface is a large oval speaker grille. Above it are four LED indicators that show battery status, call status, Bluetooth status, and FM transmitter status.
If you're wondering where the power switch is, the entire top part of the speakerphone actually presses down to act as the multifunction call button. You hold down the button for two seconds to power the SP700 on, and hold it down for four seconds to shut it off. For answering or ending calls, you just need to tap it briefly. On the left spine is the FM button, which you use to transmit the audio to your car's stereo. The volume rocker is on the right spine, as well as the charger jack. All buttons felt easy to find and press.
On the back of the SP700 is a large metal clip that you use to attach to your car's visor. We should note that even though the SP700 can stream music, there aren't any music controls on the device itself - you'll have to manage that from the phone.
Aside from the stereo Bluetooth capability and the FM transmitter, you get some basic features. They include answering, ending, and rejecting calls, last number redial, voice dialing if your phone supports it, and call mute. It also has night driving mode that senses the lack of sunlight, and will shut off the LED indicators so there are no interfering lights when driving at night.
One of the better features of the SP700 is that it gives out voice announcements to tell you the speakerphone's status. It'll let you know when it's powered on, when it's powering down, when it's paired, and when the FM is enabled. It will also announce the incoming caller ID, which we liked quite a bit. If you have FM transmission enabled at the time of an incoming call, the caller's number is actually displayed on your radio using RDS (Radio Data System)--another nice bonus. The Jabra SP700 can provide voice announcements in up to 10 different languages.
We paired the Jabra SP700 with the Apple iPhone 3G and the LG Incite. We were quite impressed with the call quality; callers could hardly hear background noise and there was little-to-no echo from our end. They could still pick up road noise, but it wasn't that bad. That said, we have heard reports that road noise is a bigger issue in larger vehicles, so test it first if you have a van or a truck. We heard our callers loud and clear. We did get quite a bit of static occasionally, but it wasn't a deterrent.
Since the iPhone 3G doesn't have stereo Bluetooth, we tested the streaming music with the LG Incite. The SP700 immediately started to stream music from the phone, without any prompts. The audio quality is on the tinny side of course, but like the call quality, it has plenty of volume.
To transmit music from the SP700 to your car's stereo, simply press the FM button on the speakerphone, and tune in to the announced FM frequency. If you wish to change the FM band, press FM again and then press the Volume up button until you hear "Scanning". You can scan until you find a satisfactory FM frequency. You can use the FM transmitter for both phone calls and streaming audio. We tested this in an older Honda Civic, and the audio quality improved significantly. That said, because we live in a big city like San Francisco, it's hard to find a non-congested FM frequency; you'll likely have better luck in a less congested area. The FM transmitter turns off automatically when not in use.
The Jabra SP700 comes with a USB charger as well as an in-car charger. It has a rated talk time of 14 hours and a rated standby time of 10.6 days.

Great sound, easy to link, simple to use
by dalej53 on November 24, 2009
Pros: The callers are telling me when I am using this speakerphone it sounds better then when I call them on my cellphone.Link between cell and speakerphone was quick and easy.
Cons: Sometimes the fm link to play music or to hear callers through the FM radio will not be so good....
Summary: Other then that problem with the link up,all the other functions work great.Even the sound coming from the SP700,when not using the FM link, sounds great. Blue ...

Blue indicator lights are easy on the eyes even driving at night and if you want, you can dismiss them for night time use.At first I bought the BlueAnt product, took it back after a trial and bought this one, glad I did....

Everything I Wanted

Summary: I have an iPhone 3GS and I was thinking of getting it hard wired through my 2004 Honda Accord Factory Stereo System. One benefit of that was that anything I played on my car stereo would sound great. The downside to that is that I would still need to use a bluetooth headset of some sort to be completely hands free. But then I did some online researching and I found this. Not only is it a far cheaper solution to my problem, but it's also a hands free bluetooth speakerphone too! So far I have not had any problem pairing it to my iPhone. Took about 5 seconds to get that set up. Once that was set up, I tested the speakerphone. Sounds great! One thing that is great is that anything that omits a sound will play over the Jabra. This is another reason that I got this. From my Navigon Mobile Navigator to Pandora to my music stored on the phone, it sounds good over the Jabra speaker, but even sound better over your car stereo speakers when I used the FM transmitter. So far I have not heard one audible hiss you typically get while using FM transmitters. Bottom line is I saved probably $150-$200 from going the direction of the hard wired option. I also hate having those damn little bluetooth headsets in my ear. Battery life on this is fantastic! I highly recommend!!!!

Great Bluetooth Speakerphone, Poor at streaming music.
by Dave_MG on February 22, 2009
Pros: Easy setup and pairing, loud & clear calls, displays caller id# on RDS tuner. Small, aesthetic design. Great Price too, $70 at Costco less $20 Coupon = $50!
Cons: Weak FM signal, which makes for a lot of hiss, distortion and background noise in the music. Since this was one of the main reasons i bought it, it's going back!

Summary: The unit is no more than four unobstructed feet from my antenna, yet it is not strong enough to provide a hiss free sound. It is also not strong enough to overcome distortions in the airwaves as you drive. So even though the distance never changed between the speakerphone and the antenna, it sounded like i was listening to a weak FM station far from its transmitter. Since these are open/public airwaves there is an issue of security too. Not that i'm likely to have top secret conversations, so i would rather risk the infinitesimally small chance that someone near me may be eavesdropping on what we are having for dinner that night, for increased signal and sound quality.
Bottomline. if all you want is a handsfree speakerphone, go for it. If you want to stream music, look for a hardwired solution.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great for anyone who doesn't like wearing with headsets
by persianstyle on January 31, 2009
Pros: This item syncs quickly with my phone. The speaker is loud enough for a car. If i don't want to use the speaker it connects to my fm radio in seconds. Well built, strong, and sturdy!
Cons: This isn't the type of electronic that you can just pick up and use without reading the manual. I believe this is only because i haven't ever had an item like this. Since this is my only "con" on this item, it's worth the money!

Summary: Overall i think it's one of the best electronic cellphone accessories anyone could buy. It's easy to use, especially once you have figure out all the settings you like. (remember, if the person on the other side of the phone hears a buzz or sounds, you most likely need to adjust your visor. It could be to close to your mouth.) Also... Most users don't remember that if the channel it gives you has static, you need to have it provide you with another channel. I know people who have bought 1 and went back to buy one for their other cars because it's just that good! I hope this helps!

Almost as good as a built-in unit.
by charlie321 on December 29, 2008
Pros: Good FM connection, which is almost unheard of in SoCal. Excellent noise cancellation makes clear phone calls possible, even in a convertible with the top down. Sleek design makes unit nearly invisible to potential thieves.
Cons: Wire clip is way too big for average windshield visor. Had to create a shim out of styrofoam to fill in the extra space. Caller ID via RDS does not work on my RDS-equipped stereo. Jabra technical support is non-existant.
Summary: Product generally works as advertised and call quality is better than expected. No built-in caller ID screen makes RDS necessary, but it does not function on my RDS-equipped stereo Jabra ...

by tech_unsavvy on August 24, 2009
Pros: pairs well, fm hooks up well
Cons: volume control non-existent on speakerphone/ so one must use fm feature which is difficult to change the channel on the fly while driving and listening to the radio, multi function button for multi purpose like call answer and power is difficult
Summary: would buy again , maybe I got a lemon

The Best Bluetooth Speakerphone - I Bought Two!!
by brwong on July 1, 2009
Pros: Very good sound quality, very good noise reduction, very easy to use, very cool looking
Cons: Can't think of one now.
Summary: I bought one on sale, tried it and loved it, so I went back to the store and pick up another one for my family right away.
As always, Jabra ...Summary: I bought one on sale, tried it and loved it, so I went back to the store and pick up another one for my family right away.
As always, Jabra is one of the best in communication device.
Look: Very slims, cool looking and feel solid.
Pairing: Very fast. Only takes 2 to 3 secs to connect after turning on SP-700
Speaker: Can be very loud even with all the windows opened. You can also you your car speaker thru FM.
Mic: Noise reduction are very usefully. Can't hear any wind on the other side with windows down.
Someone say the FM quality is not good, but that depends on the area that you are in. Some area have many frequencies, especially when driving in the city. I've tried a few FM adapters and they all have the same problems (I live in a city). However, comparing SP700 with others on the FM feature, SP700 is still carrying a exceptional performance. -
I love this device, easy setup easy listening
by mstadiumvision on June 25, 2009
Pros: Excellent FM, little hiss. Love the voice prompts.
Cons: I would love if it could pair with more than one phone. Too inconvenient to switch back and forth with two sep. phones.
Summary: Love the device, user friendly. I'll never shop at Best Buy again, now that I've seen how inexpensive it should have been at amazon.com

The Jabra USB cable IS standard! USB connectors come in 6 formats (not all are commonly used). Jabra use USB Micro-B connectors. Search the net for Micro USB and you will find cheap replacement cables, It is absolute garbage to infer that users will need to buy another unit if the cable is lost or broken, as you will see in some reviews.
