The bad: Expensive; when the battery dies, so does the music.
The bottom line: While they're no bargain, the Bose QuietComfort 15s currently offer the best sound and silencing capabilities in a pair of noise-canceling headphones.

24 / 7 Generators used for 2010 Olympics can't be heard
by Polar4000 on January 20, 2010
Pros: Has excellent sound and its noise cancellation is just outstanding. See bottom line for details.
Cons: Smallest size still feels a little too large for my head. I have a small head for someone my size (6 foot 2) but is still ok.

Summary: I live in an apartment tower in Vancouver wehre the olympics are being held next month. In preparation for the Olympics a number of tent venues have been established. To power these sites they have brought in portable generators that are housed in medium to large shipping containers with ventilation fans on top. Where I live they have put them on the other side of the road. I live 22 stories up and the harmonics and reverb off the buildings has created a noise level not unlike what you would get when a street cleaner drives past you on the sidewalk.
During this period of olympic activity they have reduced the noise restrictions so these generators (and concerts etc) can run 24 hours a day. From Jan 1st to March 31. So I couldn't sleep.
I purchased these headphones a few days ago. I put them on at home with the expectation that they would help a little bit. Well, its like pulling on a Virtual reality helmet. The world just seems different. Quiter, like lifes problems and stresses of downtown living are a long way away.
After a few nights sleeping with these on I am having the most undisturbed nights sleeps ever.
I also use these at work. I hadn't realized how noisy it was at work until I put these headphones on.
Get these headphones, put them on and go to your happy place. -
Best Noise Canceling Headphones for the Price
by scottfillmer on January 18, 2010
Pros: QC15's are VERY quiet, high quality, sound reproduction is very good, comfortable fit, lightweight, easy to transport case, price (reasonable for what they do).
Cons: The battery, no batter no sound, no optional version that includes a mic, can be hot on your head/ears after long use

Summary: The very best set of headphones I have ever used. The Quiet Comfort 15 (QC15) has great sound reproduction quality, they are comfortable to wear for long periods of time (hours), they are light weight for their size, and most important of all, they block out an enormous amount of outside ambient noise.
The price is rather high if you just want a good pair of headphones, if so, try the other non-noise canceling models from Bose, those are great too, but for $300 they probably provide the best bang for the buck. You get a quality product for a reasonable price.
I found that wearing them for hours on end is not a problem other than the fact that they can get hot on your ears after a while, but they is pretty much the case with all over the ear headphones for me. I wish Bose had a version that included a built-in mic like on their on-ear model but not sure how much I would use it anyway.
Overall the best headphones you can buy for $300 and some of the best noise-canceling headphones on the market. -
100% worth it. 100/5
by runescapeomfg on January 3, 2010
Pros: It literally doesn't get any better than this. It's theatrical sound, it's like you're right there. Great for all kinds of music.
Cons: Sometimes after awhile, they get a little over-whelming and you will need to take a break. Otherwise 100/5, love 'em.
Summary: Once you go Bose, you can't go back. ;)

Made me fall in love with music again.
by tmlorbach on October 25, 2009
Pros: Sound is like sitting in a sound studio.
Cons: Price is the only real issue. After hours of use, take off to release pressure. Much better than earlier version which hurt my ears after only 30 mins.
Summary: If you can afford, buy these to get an incredible sound experience.

Excellent head phones
by peterpal49 on October 19, 2009
Pros: They do an excellent job in noise reduction. My main use is traveling by plane. Can't stand the rumble and wind noise in planes. These headphones literally remove all of that noise. Yea Team Bose!
Cons: None as of yet.

Summary: If you do alot of airline travel and find too much cabin noise, these are for you. I purchased these while in Florida during a business stay. Flying home the next day, The ultimate test was to come! Once we reached 10k feet I unpacked the headphones, hooked them up to the ipod, and could not beleive what I heard. Nothing! except the music from the ipod. Turned off the pod to check ambient noise, and basically all I could hear was very faint conversation of my wife talking to the lady next to her. Lifted the head phones off my hear and there was a rush of jet noise. Put them back on and Bada Bing no more noise. Turned the pod back on at a considerably lower volume than I used in the past with my ear buds, and went to sleep. Woke up from the flight actually feeling very refreshed and relaxed. Yes they cost a few bucks, but In the long run we all know quality and comfort doesn't come cheap. The decission is yours, spend less get less or spend more and get alot more.

There's a reason you can't compare in-store!
by Syzygies on May 13, 2010
Pros: Best noise suppression
Cons: Not as good sound as e.g. Audio Technica
Summary: Look around a plane, particularly up front. Everyone with the money is buying Bose without thinking it through. They're making a mistake.
Why trust any of us yahoos you ...Summary: Look around a plane, particularly up front. Everyone with the money is buying Bose without thinking it through. They're making a mistake.
Why trust any of us yahoos you don't know, when you can get the straight scoop from Bose execs? It simply isn't possible to A/B your own phones against Bose phones in-store. Bose has locked away the plug, and mixed their own audition music. Can you smell setup? The execs aren't stupid. Bose noise-suppression is better, but Audio Technica sound quality is better. They know this, and they don't want you to find out in their store.
Want to check me on this? Take a pair of Audio Technica phones to the Apple store, where there's plenty of noise and Bose phones for sale. They don't restrict your ability to A/B against your own phones. The difference is obvious.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not for me, either
by gordonrd on August 27, 2009
Pros: Same high quality overall physical design of the QC2s, improved case, improved NC, nice leather used for cups
Cons: Bulk, require AA battery, no Bluetooth, over ear design is too warm and and moist for me
Summary: I still prefer the over ear design of the QC3 and the convenient rechargable battery. The charger is small, very light, with fold up prongs and very conveniently fits in ...
Summary: I still prefer the over ear design of the QC3 and the convenient rechargable battery. The charger is small, very light, with fold up prongs and very conveniently fits in the QC3 case. I have a spare battery so there is never an issue of running out. Wish the QC series had Bluetooth, especially now that the iTOUCH and iPHONE support it.

Great noise cancelling but terrible sound quality
by AgentCOPP1 on December 14, 2011
Pros: Great sound cancelling, very compact, stylish, sleek, nice carrying case,
Cons: Sub-par sound quality (very big), flimsy wire, only works if sound cancelling is on, no 1/4 adapter, overly-bright highs, desensitized lows, bad sound stage,
Summary: I've heard many good things about these headphones and eventually I decided to buy myself a pair. I am used to the style of headphones that Sony has brought ...
Summary: I've heard many good things about these headphones and eventually I decided to buy myself a pair. I am used to the style of headphones that Sony has brought out, more specifically the extra bass line. I am also used to other lines like Audio Technica and Sennheiser (mainly very high quality sound). I would not consider myself an audiophile as I don't spend any more than $500 on any set of headphones. Coming from a high esteemed company like Bose, I fully expected the Quietcomforts to be nearly perfect in every aspect. Man, was I wrong. When I first put them on, I noticed a huge difference in the sound quality of these and my other ~$300 headphones. The highs were overpowering, the lows were hardly noticeable, and the overall feel of the sound seemed very unbalanced.
I do like the noise cancelling, however. I was able to mow my lawn (btw I have a Toro Z5030 ZTR riding mower) and with music playing, I could hardly hear the engine at all. I have to say that I was quite impressed. But noise cancelling isn't my main concern. It is really sad to say that I was extremely disappointed with this pair, and I promptly resold it on eBay.
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE OTHER REVIEWS. I fully understand that there are an overwhelming amount of reviews out there saying that the sound quality is excellent. Let me tell you something: I honestly believe that every single person who says that has never even tried to any extent any of the other $300 by other companies out there. I on the other hand have had much experience, and my experience is telling me that $300 is not worth what the QC15 gives you. Plain and simple. I own a pair of Sony MDR-XB1000 headphones, which you can find on eBay for $200, and they just blow the QC15s out of our galaxy. I can by a set of headphones for $20 at Radio Shack that have the same quality of sound that the QC15s do. It's that bad. Even when the music is turned up even slightly loud in the 1000s, I can't hear a single thing anyone is saying unless they yell at me. So take my advice and if you care more about sound quality than noise cancelling, please get something different.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very good noise cancelling, mediocre sound.
by peter236 on September 12, 2010
Pros: Noise cancelling is excellent in airplane use. Headphones are comfortable. Detachable cord and power switch enable use of phones for strictly environmental noise reduction.
Cons: One can get better sound for much less money. Sound lacks midrange thus is often too bright and/or bass heavy. Needs 7-10 db boost at 1khz. Ipod "Spoken word" eq is acceptable. Heavy ear cups are not compatible with physical activity.
Summary: These earphones are excellent for sedentary use in airplanes. In many cases they are better than foam earplugs. Otherwise, they are not interesting. The combination of ear cup mass and ...
Summary: These earphones are excellent for sedentary use in airplanes. In many cases they are better than foam earplugs. Otherwise, they are not interesting. The combination of ear cup mass and seal around the ears translates physical movement into unpleasant pressure changes in the ears. The sound is not obviously colored but the midrange is lacking, which tends to increases the volume one needs ? bright, boomy and fatiguing. Luckily, many computers have built-in equalizers, which can help. Noise reduction circuitry introduces some background hiss, but this is not generally objectionable. In-store displays of Bose earphones demonstrate noise reduction and sound quality (with supplied source material). Since others don't, there is often no way to make comparisons.
