JVC HA-NC80 Noise Canceling Headphones price range: $31.99 - $59.99

The good: The JVC HA-NC80 headphones are relatively inexpensive, and they include a dual-prong adapter for in-flight use, as well as a travel pouch.
The bad: The JVC HA-NC80's earcups are on the small side, making the headphones uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The noise-canceling feature affects only low frequency sound.
The bottom line: Frequent fliers operating on a tight budget should consider the JVC HA-NC80 Noise Canceling Headphones, but those with sensitive ears might want to steer clear.
The HA-NC80s' completely circular shape and relatively small 2.5-inch diameter are no doubt responsible for the uncomfortable fit. However, the headphones aren't overly tight--and the earcups have some cushy padding--so those with less sensitive ear cartilage may find them suitably comfortable. The cord is plenty long at 5 feet, but it doesn't retract like that of the HA-NC100. The HA-NC80 headphones fold up flat into a semicircle--it's not the most compact design we've seen, but JVC does include a travel pouch for transport. There's also a dual prong adapter for in-flight use and a AAA battery for the noise cancellation feature.

As is indicated by the product name, the JVC HA-NC80 headphones offer an active noise-canceling mode. JVC asserts that the 'phones offer as much as 75 percent noise reduction. We have no way to measure that accurately, but the HA-NC80s did a good job eliminating the noise from our office ventilation system, as well as some hum from a nearby server. The headphones actually have two modes for reduction: Low, meant for bus and train rumblings; and Wide, which will take care of that pesky airplane engine noise. In any case, neither mode will block out higher-frequency noises, such as the clickity-clack of a neighbor's keyboard.
On the sound-quality tip, the JVC HA-NC80s do a surprisingly decent job. I wouldn't call it fantastic, but when paired with a Creative Zen V Plus, the headphones provided clear highs and a balanced midrange. Even low-end response was decent, though bass addicts may not be entirely satisfied. All in all, I was most pleased with the performance for rock and midtempo electronica. Rated battery life with the noise cancellation turned on is a respectable 25 hours.

Regarding price, very good product
by sauros73 on March 21, 2011
Pros: - 2 noice cancelling (NC) levels
- head hoop is padded for confort
- hoop tension not too tight, good if you wear glasses
- NC background noice is really low
- Sound is really equilibrated between bass and trebles ( listening jazz, classic and rock)
- tCons: - ear padding made with mica probably will not resist at long term
- with 5 feets, the cord is too long for a walker user
- design not fancy (could be a pro, depend of you)Summary: My review is based on the Sony MDR NC7 that I return to the shop because:

The accuracy and richness of the bass is quite good. My bench march song is Space Oddity - David Bowie cause the bass are in the left side and trebles on the right. Good to distinguish the frequencies ;-)
- really mediocre sound, espacially for trebles
- NC has a loud background noice
- the hoop has hinge that hurt the head
- compare to the JVC HA-NC80, the ony MDR NC7 has poor performance to NC

Superior sound quality at an affordable price.
by RevoWution on March 1, 2011
Pros: Exceptional sound quality, noise cancelling worked well on the plane, over-the-ear cups were very snug and comfortable, can be folded away for easy transport.
Cons: Headphones are a little on the wide side, hard carry case would have been better over soft carry pouch.

Summary: Bought these at the dutyfree store in Melbourne airport for my trip back to Auckland. At only $75.00 AUD, you can't go wrong. I didn't expect the sound quality to be this exceptional. The highs, lows and mids were all very balanced (plenty of bass though, for those worrying about lack of bass), and there was no hint of distortion; even at maximum volume.
The over-the-ear cups were very soft, snug and comfortable. I happily wore them for the 4 hour flight with no discomfort. Kept my ears warm too lol. I've never used noise cancelling ear/headphones before, so I can't really compare these to anything else, but I can confidently say that I have never had such a quiet plane flight in my life. So for me, the noise cancelling did its job quite admirably. One other plus is that the headphones fold away very nicely and fit great into the included faux-leather drawstring pouch for easy transportation when not in use.
The only (slight) downside to the headphones is that the headband themselves are quite wide around the sides of the head, especially right above the ear cups, where they flare quite prominently outwards. Minor complaint, but by no means a problem for me at all.
All in all, for the price I paid for these, the sound quality, build quality and noise cancelling ability are all top notch. Highly recommended for those on a budget (you will be getting far more for the price you pay to get your hands on one of these), and also for those with a bit of cash, looking to invest in some decent noise cancelling headphones (save your money and get these instead). -
Great Soung, Great Noise Cancelling

YES, IT IS. The noise cancelling feature is for constant noises, LIKE the cold air return in tkuzelka's office. Not your dog barking, or your parents watching venus TV. IT;s great for plane or bus.
Cons:I could not find another review to support my problem, so i think I got a defect. The right cup cuts out, so maybe the witre is ripped or kinked, but it usually happns when i tough the on/off switch. It;s real annoying, because the reason i got new hphnes is that my old ones the right cup didn't work.
I RECCOMENd these headphones. They are comfortable, sophisticated, professional, sound great, (bass is great, what are you talking about?) and are copmpact for travel, as they come with an airplane adaptor, leather carrying pouch, and instrictions. The warranty at the source is 25 bucks, which brings your price up to 140$, but i tink it's worth it. As i said in the con's section, i think I got a lemon, because the right cup cuts out, mutes, and dimms volime. I might of busted it with overpower, but i doubt my craptop could do that. While observing/playing with the defect, i think it's the wire connection with the earcup. I HAVE ONLY OWNED THEM FOR 1 1/2 DAYS!
Buy em, Use em, Like em. NOW.
PS. I put my pros and cons here because the other dedicated fields didn't ave enough space. -
You get what you pay for

Pros: nice sound, good noise cancelling ability.
Cons: Could use a little more base, comfortable on the ears but might get a little uncomfortable for long periods of time.

Summary: As I stated in the summary, you get what you pay for, with that being said, the noise canceling ability does work. I use my headphones at work, and sit under a cold air return. While the NC80's didn't cancel the noise completely, it did reduce the noise a significantly, at least to a level that didn't annoy me anymore. The sound from the speakers is very good in my opinion. They could use a little more bass, but it really isn't that bad. The ear pieces are round, so they don't cover your ears, but they are large enough to block out noise even with the cancelling off. The padding is soft and comfortable on my ears, and there is plenty of padding on the top to protect your head. All in all, I like them, I knew my expectations when purchasing them, so I knew I wasn't going to get Bose quality sound and noise cancelling. In short, if you are looking for an inexpensive set of noise cancelling headphones for the office or home, give these a try, I think you will be suprised.

Noise canceling? Not much
by tomeriksen on August 27, 2008
Pros: Cheap, battery in headset
Cons: Sharp edges not comfortable against headrest, poor noise cancelling, kind of bulky for travel.
Summary: Cheap but not doing the trick. Add an extra $50 and buy some Sennheisers instead?

ok, if you don't listen to music

Summary: I just moved into a new office and there is a constant hiss from ventilation ducts that route above my office. I found these headphones in a black-friday sale and thought I'd give them a try. They block about 50% of the frequencies in the vent hiss and all of the sounds in a band of frequencies but only 25% of sounds in higher hums. The big problem comes when listening to music. With the noise cancellation turned OFF, the speakers have less bass then my $20 Phillips ear buds. With noise cancellation turned ON I can just make out a thump thump of a drum or strings if I really listen.

Decent noise cancelling, terrible with bass
by CorvustheCrow on September 20, 2009
Pros: Family members can watch TV in the same room and the TV noise doesn't interfere too much with my music enjoyment. Comfortable to wear.
Cons: Bass is terrible to nonexistent. No volume control on the cord.
Summary: It's like listening to music through a tin can. And I can still hear louder outside noises like my neighbor's German Shepherd barking, or my other neighbor's ...

Summary: Well, I am going to buy the JVC HA-NC250. I have nothing against JVC but this model is much worse than any headphones you can imagine. I read the review of CNET, and reviewer said it is uncomfortable... I should've taken his advice... I thought, "well couldn't be too bad, heck it's year 2008." Well, went cheap was my mistake, and I can't even wear this headphone for more than 30mins... it is going straight to a trash can(serious). I'm getting a new set.

- Description: With the JVC HANC80 noise-canceling headphone, now you can choose the most effective noise cancel mode for the circumstances.
