The good: The Klipsch Custom 2 in-ear headphones offer full and detailed sound, rugged construction, tangle-resistant cables, multiple ear tips, and effective noise isolation.
The bad: The Klipsch Custom 2 headphones are relatively large, lack foam ear tips, and touch more of your ear than traditional consumer earphones.
The bottom line: If you're looking for a stylish pair of in-ear headphones that can stand up to daily abuse and provide rich sound, the Klipsch Custom 2 are hard to beat.
Klipsch is a relatively new player in the headphone game, but its reputation as a high-end speaker manufacturer dates back to the 1940s. Building on the success of the company's knockout Image X10 earphones, the Klipsch Custom line delivers impressive sound quality in a larger, more durable design.
Design
The Klipsch Custom 2 ($199) headphones have a streamlined, space-age look that features a round 0.7-inch sound chamber packed with dual balanced-armature drivers. Unlike conventional earbuds, the Klipsch Custom's cables shoot out from the top of the earpiece and wrap around the back of the ear along a coated 2-inch length of moldable memory wire. The Klipsch Custom 2's cables measure 4 feet long and are covered in a braided, tangle-resistant cloth.
One of the more unique design features across the entire line of Klipsch earphones are the slightly oval shape of their interchangeable ear tips. Klipsch claims the oblong shape is a better match to the ear canal's natural shape. We failed to notice any appreciable difference between the slightly oval fit of the Klipsch and the uniformly round ear tips included with most earphones, but earphone fit is always a highly subjective experience. The Klipsch Custom 2 come packaged with five pairs of different size silicone tips (three single-flange pairs and two dual-flanged). No foam tips are offered; however, the variety and design of included gel ear tips should satisfy even the smallest or largest ears.
The Klipsch Custom 2s don't have the light and ultraportable design of the Image earphones or a pair of Etymotic HF5s, but their design offers many practical advantages. We found the Klipsch Custom 2s' behind-the-ear memory wire made them easier to quickly slap on than the loose-wire design of our trusty Shure SE310. The moldable wire also allows you to dangle the Klipsch Custom 2 loosely over your ears for moments when you need to hear what's going on around you (i.e. bicycling, walking through sketchy neighborhoods, feigning attention to a conversation).

Performance
The Klipsch Custom 2 earphones sit at the center of the Klipsch Custom series, both sonically and financially. To our ears the Custom 2s offer the most balanced response of the bunch, a sound we sometimes preferred over the more expensive Klipsch Custom 3s.
Despite the Klipsch Custom 2 earphones' generally balanced presentation, the sonically saturated techno sound of Monolake's "Polygon Cities" album absolutely pumped with the kind of tight, punchy low end we missed from Etymotic's HF5s. Modern rock gems such as Radiohead's "Airbag" came through crisp and clear, with guitars pleasantly jumping forward in the mix more than we've experienced in products that use dynamic-type drivers, such as the V-Moda Vibe headphones.
We feel that the Custom 2s offer slightly fuller low-frequency punch than comparable offerings from Shure and Etymotic--sitting closer to the signature of the Ultimate Ears Pro line. If you yearn for an extra helping of low-end lushness, you should give the Klipsch Custom 3s a listen.
As far as fit and comfort are concerned, we feel the wide range of ear tips and the memory wire's ability to distribute weight across the ear make the Klipsch Custom 2s easy to wear for long stretches without discomfort. Compared with the invisible-feeling Klipsch X5 earphones, however, the Custom series makes much more contact with the ear, which may irritate some users.
The Klipsch Custom 2s come with a two-year limited warranty against defects, although it remains to be seen whether the company's policy is as forgiving Shure's.

Good fit, good bass, cord a little noisy.
by gsuen on December 20, 2009
Pros: I got these to replace some er-6i's that I wore out. So far, these don't isolate as well, but the sound clarity is terrific.
Cons: One complaint about the cord, the covering is kind of noisy when listening at low volumes. The case doesn't quite fit perfectly as the plugs are set off at almost right angle. The zipper on the case doesn't always zip and I have to self repair it.
Summary: For the price, I think these are outstanding values but I haven't worked out with them yet to determine if the cord noise will be distracting.

Best fitting most ergonomic earbuds I've ever used.
by berbabed on December 20, 2009
Pros: Fit like a charm, the stiff moldable ends work perfectly.Nice mid range.
Cons: Sound is average, cable above the split is prone kinks causing the copper wire to poke through.
Summary: If these earbuds had deeper bass and the "kinking" problem was fixed I would continue to buy over and over again.Want them to work so bad. i love the ...

Wonderful Headphones

Pros: Great sound quality with good balance, Quite comfortable, Build seems sturdy and well-constructed
Cons: Could be uncomfortable to some, over-the-ear memory wire should be optional

Summary: I'm new to premium headphones, but despite lack of experience with them, I am very satisfied with these. Though not without flaws, these are very solid headphones with great sound quality. They excel especially with sounds in the mid- and high-frequency. Lows are also quite full and deliver a tight punch where they're supposed to, but they are not quite as forward as other sounds in the music. Bass addicts beware. You may be disappointed.
After listening again today, I found that in one of my songs on Alesana's album Where Myth Fades to Legend, there is a hidden keyboard that these headphones finally revealed to me. The headphones provide beautiful sound and do their job in allowing you to hear detail you've never heard before in your music.
As far as comfort goes, these are great. As I have read many professional and user reviews alike of other models, I can imagine there are some out there that feel even better models for comfort, but I have yet to experience them. Of course, they could be uncomfortable to anyone with problems sticking objects fairly deep into their ear. Also, the memory wire makes them feel rather odd and while not necessarily uncomfortable, I could go without.
Overall, I find these to be well worth what I paid, at about $80, but I believe I'd be just as pleased with paying the full retail price of $200. They sound terrific without exaggerating any frequencies over the others. Fit is good, and they don't feel particularly uncomfortable even after long periods of use. I would recommend them to anyone who loves music but doesn't want to spend money on more expensive balanced models.

Amazing Clarity
by GageC12001 on June 21, 2009
Pros: Great Highs, Great Mids. Lows very nice but only with modifications to your equlizer and getting proper seal in your ears. The quality of the soundstage is great for the price. Blocks out large amount of sound.
Cons: The wrap over the ears's style takes some getting used to. Break in period with finding the right combination of settings and ear gels takes time.

Summary: If your looking for a pair of headphones that allows you to listen to music in quiet at work while not bothering your co-workers this is the set for you. The quality is there and the sound quality sell it more than anything else. remember to take the time to set your equilizer for the bass. I had another paid of headphone cx300's that if you just play them side by side the bass from the cx300's is more responcive. after setting my equlizer for these new headphones they were pumping out more bass than my cx 300's. I've read alot of reviewes and most people I think are not doing the neccessary set up to get the most out of a pair of these. You set up a car's supenson differently if your going to do circle track racing compaired to cross country. High performance audio equipment is the same. No 2 are the same and you tune to get the correct responce you want, not buy equipment to the setting you have.

great price, great sound excellent build
by dangerdangerwildbill2 on August 7, 2009
Pros: You can tell this is a step up with the two balanced armatures, sounds evensteven and not laid back.
Cons: Hard to see the lettering for Right and Left. blends in with the color of the of the body of the airphone.

Summary: I am pretty picky as to what I put into my ears, so I really looked high and low for a product in the $200 to $300 range. I auditioned around ten units and read almost every review out thereon earphones in that price range. There are quite a few out there and a number of then are actually very good such as the Russian built unit based on the commando style equipment used in the one day war with Monaco. It is called "The Sellensky 345" The 345 represents some rather special moments in this glories day of celebration that they found thrust upon themselves. Of course there is no comment from Monaco which to get one up on the Russians came out with there own AirPhone,"The Grace 1.5" based on a concert by Brittney Spears. So as you can see by my detailed review I really like the Klipsch Custom 2 and I know you will too.
