The good: The Klipsch S4A Headphones for Android earn our favor with powerful 8.5mm drivers, comfortable ear tips, and an accompanying Android app that smartphone owners can use to remap the in-line remote controls.
The bad: The headphones perform inconsistently on devices running Android 2.1 and lower.

Wrong headphones?
by e_verybody on October 28, 2011
Pros: Not a review. See below.
Cons: Not a review. See below.
Summary: @ timosullivan: These headphones do not cost $300. If you bought a different set that do, your experience doesn't really say a lot about this product.

Absolute garbage

Summary: I don't know why Cnet keeps giving these headphones such high reviews. I can only suspect that they don't use them long enough to learn that they will likely fall apart within 1 year. I have had 2 pairs and all have broken within 1 year. Klipsch replaced the first pair that broke but would not replace the second set after the left channel died 6 months later. I would strongly urge everyone to avoid these. They are not made well and will surely break within a year. I wish Cnet would use their products longer so their reviews will be more accurate.

Great headphones, as long as you don't use the controls
by maxmuscle on December 13, 2011
Pros: Excellent sounding headphones for the price. Great for bass heavy music. 2 year warranty!
Cons: No dedicated volume buttons!!!
Only one button control functionality is unnecessarily complicated. Why?!
Questionable durability, based on previous experience with s4i'sSummary: I'm going to start with the negative because this is a big negative. Why isn't there dedicated volume up and down buttons on the remote?!

Reducing button clutter is okay, but at the cost of functionality it's not. You can customize what the button does to a certain extent but it's so complicated getting the button to do what you want.(long press function can only be used for volume?) You can only increase volume! To get to a lower volume you have to click through the volume selections higher and higher until you get back to the lower starting point.
I would have not bought these if I knew how crappy the single button remote function was going to be.
I love the sound quality of these headphones for the money. Sounds reproduced accurately and clearly, with great bass response if you like music with a lot of bass in it.
Sound quality is awesome, but the headphones are just frustrating and not worth the hassle because of the remote.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great sound IF they fit.

Summary: I started reading earbud reviews when I decided to get new ones and was puzzled by the inconsistent opinions of people reviewing the same product. One says great sound but the next says terrible sound. One says overpowering bass and the next says non-existent bass. I found out why with these earbuds.
I bought these because I wanted good earbuds with Android controls and they were on clearance to make room for the S4A IIs. I have some Sony earbuds that cost $25 and sound better than any I had tried (except the Bose earbuds that were over my budget of "under $100"), but they have iPhone controls. A friend loves his S4s (no mic) so I figured these would sound great.
I tried every ear gel in the package and settled on the largest ones. Sound was OK but not as good as my $25 Sonys. No bass and a little tinny. As I was packing them up to take them back, I decided on a whim to try my Sony ear gels that fit me so well on the S4As. The shafts on the Sonys are a larger diameter so the ear gels slid up a little farther on the Klipsch shafts, but they fit OK.
With the Sony ear gels, the S4As sound fantastic! Deep but not overpowering bass and good balance between midrange and highs. The Klipsch gels were a decent fit, but I'm amazed at how much difference PROPERLY fitting gels make in the sound.
I didn't install the Control App because I already had Jay's Headset Control, another free app, installed. The middle button on my Sonys worked intermittently but the single button on the S4As works well. I can pause/play, go forward and back, and control volume with a single button.
On the negative side, the wires are a little thin and I'm concerned about them holding up. The negative reviews suggest they may not. My friend with the S4s, however, has had his for years and says they hold up fine. The only other negative is the straight headphone plug, which is more likely to be damaged than a 90 degree plug. Again, my friend hasn't had any problems. Both of these issues are fixed with the S4A IIs.
All in all, I'm pleased with these earbuds. I wouldn't pay full price for them with the S4A IIs out at the same price, but find them on sale and you won't regret it. IF they fit. -
Excellent value, comfort, and clear balanced sound!
by SometimeStudiousNerd on February 11, 2013
Pros: Super comfortable (honestly way more than I expected), very clear and balanced sound for pricepoint and earbuds (once again, beyond expectation), light weight, aesthetically appealing
Cons: Tips are so comfortable you will spend time repeatedly switching tips to try and find out which are best.

Summary: From what I expected from the review on cnet and others I have read, I was expecting some nicely decent headphones. I am an audiophile from a musician family, beautiful sounds are just a staple of life. For this pricepoint, these are the best sounding earbuds I have ever used.
Closest in comfort would probably be the Bose IE2s but with a very different shape. The Klipsch have a better, more balanced and overall clearer, sound than the Bose.
I picked up the Image SFII with the tangle resistant chord and so far it does it says: every time I take them out of their (honestly cheap, cheesy, albeit functional) case they easily and automatically fall into a tangle free loop.
Having just picked these up I can't comment on durability nor the apple / android buttons as these are without.
Headphones of this type (earbud) and pricepoint I've tried: countless from friends, stores, owned, etc.
Earbuds / headphones in this range I currently own and compare to: Panasonic ErgoFit RP-HJE120-D, Sennheiser HD-280 Pro.
I break headphones all day (which explains the few headphones I own) and will update with how durability.
Hope this helps you out. -

The voice gets muddy along with some of the background instruments as soon as you turn up the volume a bit. Audiophiles will not be satisfied with this headphones - now I have to spend more money and go back to Dre Beats.

Excellent upgrade from S4, strong, durable, GREAT SOUND
by pfctmitsubishi on September 8, 2012
Pros: More durable design then S4, straight 3.5mm neck, not 90*. Thicker cord then most other high class earbuds. Excellent sound quality, personally think itsbetter then others including Beats. Android controls work really great for having only one button
Cons: One button controls, could use dedicated volume but still..
Summary: Extremely comfortable, excellent sounds quality, android control does what it says and heavier duty then most others. Definitely worth upwards of 100$
Personally will never buy any other brand. Klipsch ...Summary: Extremely comfortable, excellent sounds quality, android control does what it says and heavier duty then most others. Definitely worth upwards of 100$

Great sound for calls, comfortble; horrible durability
by TGA29 on August 24, 2012
Pros: Sound quality, comfort. Used primarily for conference calls, many hours per day. Must have clarity incoming and outgoing and these did a great job. Was not using them for music much. Superior voice quality and clarity compared to average headset.
Cons: Durability POOR despite careful handling. 1st pair: 1 channel went out at 6 months, Klipsch sent replacement. Repl'mt pair: 1 channel out at 5 months. Software: issues with inadvertent toggling between calls and music.
Summary: Using App's settings for customizing buttons, button toggled between phone and music: would start playing music if I accidentally clicked button while on a call on my Evo 4G, ...
Summary: Using App's settings for customizing buttons, button toggled between phone and music: would start playing music if I accidentally clicked button while on a call on my Evo 4G, which happened frequently when either attempting to increase volume (long click) or handling to adjust microphone position. Had to remove Pandora from phone to prevent this embarrassing problem from occurring on business calls. (clicking the single button takes you out of whatever app you're in, on Android - google for digitaltrends' old review for details.) Also, make sure you check for current conflicts between software and various phone models on the klipsch website.
When 2nd pair failed (still less than a year after original purchase) I opted for Bose MIE2 instead, with a 2 year in-store replacement warranty ($20 on $129 set at Fry's). If you're going to invest in the Klipsch S4a's, do yourself a favor and get the in-store tech warranty because you'll probably need it. -
The earbuds don't stay in!
by wilback on May 7, 2012
Pros: Long cord. Decent sound.
Cons: The earbuds don't stay in. No obvious marking as to which earbud is for the left ear and which is for the right ear.

Summary: I cannot get the earbuds to stay in using any of the three supplied headphone nozzles. Even though I have carefully aligned the indicator lines on the ear tips and the headphone nozzles, they usually pop out or loosen within a minute or so. When the earbuds are in place, the sound is subdued although its quailty is good.
I measured the length of the cord, it's about 51 inches. Also, there are left and right marking letters on the bottom of the earbuds near where the cord attaches to each.
