The good: The Koss PortaPro Headphones combine a functional design with excellent 3D sound and a low price tag.
The bad: Hair gets caught in the collapsible band; some people will dislike the '80s aesthetic.
The bottom line: Koss hit a home run with the PortaPros. Love or hate the design, there's no denying the sound quality here: they're the ideal companion for mobile audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts.

Summary: Like I said the plastick bits that clam the two metal head adjusting bars together snapped many years ago. At first I thought ok ditch those even though they were my favorites at the time but then before tossing then I thought to slip a couple of pieces of heat shrink tubbing onto the bars easy to accomplsh as the headphones feel into two pieces when the oricial plastic bits broke. Once the heat tubing was shrunk down to a tight fit the headphones were as good as if not better than new.

Good sound for the price but way overrated overall.
by MrBubbins on February 28, 2012
Pros: Bass, Sound Quality, Nice Packaging, Warranty.
Cons: Cheap build, a LOT of sound leakage, quiet sound output(have to turn it up really high), short cord, bad design 80's look, low highs and mids but crisp, a little bit muffled bass.
Summary: I bought these expecting what I got. They have good sound for a $37 pair of headphones... a little pricy for what you get. The sound is ok for an ...
Summary: I bought these expecting what I got. They have good sound for a $37 pair of headphones... a little pricy for what you get. The sound is ok for an on ear phone. A lot of sound leeks out. I was really thinking they may have been built a little better than they looked online. They also look larger online. They shoulda taken the packaging money and put it into a better build. They are what they are I guess. I will use for a long time im sure or until Boss comes down in price a hundo at least.
Overall, good sound for the price... but a very cheep build. I expect a little more quality. -
These made Frankie Goes to Hollywood sound great in '84
by PineappleUnderTheSea on November 17, 2011
Pros: 1. They have nice overall sound: satisfying bass, clear treble.
2. They do feel very comfortable when everything is adjusted correctly, and feel like they don't fall off your headCons: 1. Headband can indeed snag your hair, be careful when tightening up these puppies

Summary: Back in '84, a buddy comes over to me with these weird looking headphones and tells me he has finally found the best headphones for his walkman: the Koss Portapro. He definitely stood out from the crowd with the blue color and the comfort zone buttons, but once I listened to them, I threw away my Sony headphones and bought a pair of these puppies at Radio Shack and promptly inserted my Rock '84 cassette and marveled at the newfound bass and clarity of Ghostbusters.
Fastforward to 2011. I had long lost my Portapros back in the late 80's, the foam pads had worn out and I had moved on to in-ear headphones. I wanted a pair of headphones that I could listen to while lounging around the house with the iPod / iPad, or while playing some video games on the computer or console. In-ear headphones get tiring after a while, but I didn't want to spend hundreds on Bose or Senheiser, etc. Then I saw CNET review the PortaPros, and I was floored: Koss still makes these?
Well I picked up a pair, along with a pack of ear-foam replacements, and all I can say is that these are great. They are perfect for my lounging around, they make Batman Arkham City sound great with nice deep bass and good stereo separation, and I don't get tired wearing these. So for the price, what else can you ask for? -

Excellent sound! Light and comfortable.
by tubacdk on June 21, 2011
Pros: Sound quality, comfort, portability.
Cons: It took me some time to learn how to best put the folded phones into the bag. The bag is, I expect intentionally, very snug and as such they need to be put in just the right way.
Summary: I'm tired of earbuds and I wanted something very portable and affordable with a clean, natural, balanced sound (meaning warm mids, full-sounding bass without overly hyped, clean highs without ...

by phinsfan13 on April 29, 2011
Pros: The sound is amazing I have a 5k B&W system at home and when I have these on they make me feel like in my music room.
Cons: The metal band can be a pain in the butt. But you will not find a better set for cheaper or even 30 bucks more.
Summary: I would give these a thumps up I have wanted a great set of cans to replace my old ones which I paid over 100 bucks for and these actually ...

Great headphones
by sledgehammer77 on February 9, 2011
Pros: The major reasons i bought these headphones were for the sound quality and Koss's lifetime warranty and I have not been disappointed. The quality of sound is unbeatable for the price of the headphones. They are also very light and portable.
Cons: The only negatives of this product is the metal band that pulls your hair, but that is needed in order to make them as adjustable as they are. Another point is they are NOT noise canceling. A lot of sound leaks at low volumes.

Summary: This is a great pair of headphones for an amazing price. The sound quality is superb. They are very adjustable to make them comfortable for everyone. Even if they do break, they come with a lifetime warranty from Koss that only requires $6 for shipping. A lot of sound leaks out but remember you're not paying for noise canceling headphones. Overall a great, cheap, light, portable, adjustable pair of headphones. Very much worth the money.
