The bad: Hair gets caught in the collapsible band; some people will dislike the '80s aesthetic.

work great even in pro setting

Summary: Things have a way of disappearing at radio stations...sometimes you find where they were misplaced a month later, sometimes never. So a hundred bucks for headphones was out of the question. CNET steered me to the Porta-Pros and other sites confirmed these as the best available for under $100. And they're WAY under $100. The sound is clean and crisp. I'm not a bass fan, so I EQ my monitor a bit on the treble side. Just double-checked with more bass and the response is spot on. The sound is so accurate I sometimes have trouble hearing myself unless I crank up the volume. Maybe I could put under cons, but for non announcers it's not con at all. And the sound stays clean at all volumes. I've got a pair on the way to the factory to test the lifetime warranty but have no worries, and got a second pair to fill in meanwhile.

Most impressive pair of headphones I've run into
Pros: Phenomenal sound quality, affordable, portable, comfortable, sturdy, fitting.

Summary: For the price of these headphones, the sound quality is phenomenal. I was taken aback; music sounds much more rich now. They're portable and sturdy, even though they seem a little flimsy (they can handle an accidental "crunch" or tug on the wire). Moreover, despite what others have said, I've had these for a year now and they've yet to catch onto my curly frizzy hair. I'm impressed. Ditch the $6-20 earbuds that break after a couple months use. These are well worth the $30 I paid for them.

Amazing headphones, made an account just to say this
by mufc4ever on November 14, 2010
Pros: Very very clear, there is no distortion at all, you will never hear the crackling sound. Better than the Sennheiser hd238's (100$ more).
Cons: They have a very different sound and are not as exciting as other headphones (not for techno or club music). However if you like opera or classical then these will be amazing for you.
I've gotta say I prefer px100's for rap as you can feel the bumpSummary: Great headphones for me, the clarity means that they are the best headphones I have owned so far (Sennheiser HD238, PX 100, PX200, Beats by dre solo, EP50's)

These $30 Headphones are better than my Beats Studios!
by krisgonsa on November 6, 2010
Pros: Instrumental Separation is amazing, mids are steady and highs are crisps
Bass is great and balanced and it does not overpower and distort the mids and highs unlike my Beats
Cord = perfect length
Unlimited lifetime warranty
Very Comfortable
CheapCons: Slider gets caught in my hair sometimes.
Little sound isolation I can hear everybody and everybody can hear my music if it is loud enough.Summary: The headphones are value for your money. Only $30 for a pair of headphones that sounds better than a pair of Beats by dr. dre Studios. However I will mention ...
Summary: The headphones are value for your money. Only $30 for a pair of headphones that sounds better than a pair of Beats by dr. dre Studios. However I will mention that my Beats pros do sound a little better. They look very good, I would rate them better than my Beats solo. They have unlimited lifetime warranty, so even if you trow them of the empire sate building, you can get a new one....FREE with no questions asked. My beats studios wire broke and since I have crossed a year they won't have them fixed, so you can see the value for your money. They sound better than a couple of sennheiser and grado headphone I have that are over 10 times its value, so again its pure cheap goodness. Also very comfortable and I don't even feel them on my Head. The comfort Zone is really good too. Again I can't believe the sound quality I am getting for such a cheap pair of headphones.

Great Sound, tight on the head though

Summary: These are outstanding quality for $30 headphones. Rich and full sound. However I have trouble wearing them for extended periods of time. I have a head that is on the larger side so that is probably the root of the problem I am having. Even with the comfort zone cranked all the way to light, the headphones still squeeze my head a little too much. I would advise trying these on first if your head is on the larger size, but if you have a normal size head or smaller, these will be well worth your money.

These are awesome sounding for the price! 4.5 Stars!
by squeege0711 on October 13, 2010
Pros: Clarity!
Soundstage is awesome!
Lightweight and comfortable!
Fabric cord and carrying case!Cons: Wish there was a little more bass, but I am a bass head with the type of music I like. The music is still fully there alive and kicking.

Summary: I have owned many pairs of headphones, mostly IEM's from the likes of Sennhieser, Bose, V-Moda, just to name a few. Thus far my favorite are the V-Moda Vibe 2's because of the great quality and the heart-pounding dynamics of sound that gets flooded into yours ears. Mostly the BASS! I just don't need those things shoved into my ears as much anymore and that bass overwhelms the overall clarity. I do a ton of research before I take the plunge into buying headphones. These came up and I was skeptical like most because first of all Koss really isn't mentioned to often in the high end spectrum of great sounding headphones. I did my research and found these are the highest rated headphones out there for years on the net and they are for good reason. Honestly, the bass isn't there like a couple of wonderful pairs of IEM's I own, but these make up for it just by producing awesome sound and great comfort. The soundstage is there and the details are there too allowing you separate instruments from vocals. Most just smudge the sound together. Things just sound more clear! I highly recommend the Portapro if you want the clarity and if you can sacrifice a little of bass. They aren't dead, but the sound is even and natural. They are the second best value out there besides some of pairs of V-Modas you can get from ebay! These are a great starter pair into the world of music sounding 1000x better than those waste of space headphones you get with almost any MP3 Player or phone these days.

Frugal-ists, look here!
by Mitcheddar on October 1, 2010
Pros: The best sound quality money can buy at a measly 30 to 50 dollars, comfy, and the ability to switch firmness of both sides of the headset is a nice bonus.
Cons: Construction is a little bit flimsy, hair gets caught easily in the headband, and the 80's style won't fit everyone's needs.
Summary: If you are someone who wouldn't want to spend over one hundred dollars on headphones, then look no further than the Koss Portapro headphones. With a bare-bones price tag ...

Had mine for 10 years would never replace Used everyday
by ScottyTLefty on September 22, 2010
Pros: Deep rich bass. Absolutely best sounding product on the market. I have tried most products in this price level including high end earbuds, nothing comes even close to the sound of this product. Warranty is the best no questions asked replacement.
Cons: Well, over the past decade they have blown out twice. Once I had a right side earphone blow out, and once the cord cut out. Both times Koss replaced the headphones with brand new portapros no questions asked. After several hours of use ears get sore.
Summary: I use these daily for over a decade. Replaced twice no questions asked, enjoyed a decade of hard rock and metal on these, and will go for another decade. Tried ...
Summary: I use these daily for over a decade. Replaced twice no questions asked, enjoyed a decade of hard rock and metal on these, and will go for another decade. Tried many other products, always come back to the koss portapros. Best product and company to deal with. Outstanding sound quality. You wont go wrong with these. I set up my equalizer to best suit these portapros, they pick up highs and lows unlike anything else. 100% worth the $. After several years you need to replace the earpads and replacements are available easily online. Company is really easy to deal with and all you have to do is register the earphones online. Brilliant product. Really happy with mine.

You can't go wrong with this, 26 years and running

Summary: 25 Years and running...and still one of the best headphones for its price. The featherlight headphones and the comfortable double cushion pads make you feel as if you are not wearing anything at all. The good soundstage, deep thumping bass, clear mids and highs will take your breath away. My family and friends were impressed by the sound quality of the PortaPro. I was impressed with the PortaPro as well. K-Pop tracks really sounds great on this one. Especially in the song Genie, the soundstage is really great. Great value and great performance. Very good for gaming as well due to its wide soundstage. With a lifetime warranty as well, you are all covered and you will not need to worry about replacing them again.

Great sound but not very durable in the long run.
by MotenaiRonin on September 8, 2010
Pros: Sound quality is top of the line for audiophiles who are just scraping by in this economy. Collapsible folding is good for getting on the go. The cans portion of the headphones take a good beating and don't fall apart or out.
Cons: The cord does not take stress well. Down the road the wires will pop out of the jack if enough tension has been put on the ends (as happened to me). Detachable cable and a single coupling rather than a Y coupling would've made this a safer buy.

Summary: I was always satisfied with this product, up until the point where it died on me, and I was immediately brought back to earth and realized KOSS is no BOSE or GRADO or Sennheiser. With low cost you always end up sacrificing something, I didn't know that would be durability, but now I do. The 8 months that the Portapros lasted me were good times. The bass never disappointed, the aural quality rang out. The metal band can get searing hot on a sunny day, as I learned on many occasion taking it off my head and placing it around my neck. The foam pads can get sweat logged with no obvious detriment to the speakers in the phones. If you are still determined to buy these phones, take great care not to bunch up the line or tangle it or yank on it in anyway. Doing so will maximize the length of time the portapros run you. Because those $6 repair / replacement fee will add up over time.
