Summary: These earphones are great value, sound is awesome, I alternate the use of these with other 2 pairs, and this are may favorite.
First of all, lets break the paradigm that the earphones can not be used by everybody, "How many times have u listened, Oh my ear can not hold those, they hurt, I have special earholes" and all that pile of comments nowadays manufacturers offer a wide range of materials and size options depending on your budget and ear.
I was not expecting too much from philips, I used to have the Philips HN060 (a more recent model ) more compact and less messy in cable tangling terms and plus a protective bag. Now let me tell you that in termos of performance this older model is better than his sucesor.
If you dont care to be carring a little bag inside your travel backpack (they could use more space than many personal music players) and you are not intending to workout with these (these and any noise cancelling earphones are not an option for sturdy use. I definitely recommend the SHN2500 as an exellent perormance earphones at a very affordable price.
I have used sony, denon and logitech earphones. If you were wondering about the comparison.
Updated But in terms of performance I would qualify them as the best bang for your 30 bucks
Summary: I spent a long time researching whether to buy this product and found numerous reviews from rubbish to excellent.
Having a cheap pair of noise cancelling earphones, which had similar reviews but were in fact excellent, I thought that opting for a well known brand would be a sure thing. Many people do not realise noise cancelling does not magically block-out all noise but removes a lot of the irritating stuff and I thought this was why there were bad reviews.
Big mistake!
I had heard that these earphones do not have any noise cancelling and that Philips give no customer support - well that is what I found myself.
They just hiss and amplify the music - not block background noise the way my cheap EV headphones do. I contacted Philips to see if they backed their product and could perhaps explain if there was a reason they did not work - maybe I was not using them correctly. They replied with company blurb which was no help at all. I asked again if they worked and, if so, could they explain what I was doing wrong.
Philips never replied, so I can only assume that these things really do not work and they cannot defend them.
Believe me, I am used to this type product and researched this well - do not get caught-out - these earphones are useless.
Pros: Good sound quality. Noise cancelling very good. I had the TV on blasting about 15 feet away and this earphones blocked the TV sound out nicely.
Cons: As some of the other reviewers have said, the circuitry box is a bit big and unwieldly. Kind of difficult/cucumbersome to be carried around. If you don't mind that, then this is a good product especailly if you can get it at a good price.
Pros: For $20 at Walmart I bought name-brand, iPhone-compatible, batts incl., comfortable, very good & power efficient noise-canceling. I block out the 140db bow-thruster of our boat & wear 'em unplugged but on to block out my snoring bunk-mate instant
Cons: Doesn't come with a case or an easy way to wind up the chord. I use a small Velcro cord organizer and had to buy a very nice, slim, candy-bar type Case Logic, MP3 case for $9 to store them (also at Walmart).

Summary: Only hi-end, over-the-ear noise-canceling headsets could sound better but I can't sleep with those on and they are very expensive. Make sure you customize the buds to fit your ear size perfectly (I can see the smallest size still too big for women though). Good luck trying to find a comparable sounding noise-canceling headset (ear-bud or over-the-ear) for under $80.
