The good: The Sennheiser HD 201 headphones are very comfortable to wear, and the tough construction will last over long-term use. Noise leakage is at a minimum, and the overall sound is balanced as well.
The bad: The HD 201 headphones' cable may be too long for portable use, and the set doesn't come with a protective pouch for storage. Natural bass is lacking, and the maximum volume output is lower than most aftermarket headphones in its category.
The bottom line: Though the ultra-affordable Sennheiser HD 201 headphones provide natural sound and capable performance, commuters may find the low volume output an issue when listening to music in highly trafficked environments.

Awesome headphones at a great price!
by CoolBeans8081 on September 26, 2010
Pros: Sounds nice, very comfortable, cheep.
Cons: cord is longer than necessary, i could live with a little more bass (you can fix that with your EQ)

Summary: I highly recommend this to anyone who just wants to listen to music. Great bargain for the money, I actually prefer these over my friends 300 dollar headphones. Some noises like cymbals and guitar rifts are weak but if you listen to hip-hop or pop music, you can't go wrong. Sounds much better than those less than adequate ear buds that Apple gives you.

Superb product, amazing price!
by entraaanced on August 29, 2010
Pros: Fantastic clarity, light weight, sleek design, quality is not impaired even on very high volume, very flexible, cord is very long.
Cons: Bass is not fantastic, cord is not as chunky as I'd like (but that's just a personal preference).
Summary: Overall a marvelous produce. Supreme audio quality & very comfortable to wear, it cost me $49 AUD.

These are super light weight yet do no feel flimsy. The bass could be better but I find these are perfectly good for listening to electronic music (trance, hard dance, prog house).
Undoubtedly the best set available in the price bracket! Dirt cheap for the quality on offer. -

Summary: I am so happy I listened to these reviews, I have always wanted to buy a pair of nice headphones. My roommate introduced me to his Boise headphones and ever since I could never go back to the cheap earphones that come with Ipods. For the price you can't beat it, I highly recommend purchasing them if you are short on money and you want a really nice pair of headphones for the price! I am listening to music right now with them and am so happy with my purchase. Don't hesitate these are the pair you want... now stop sitting on your computer and go buy yourself them.
Happy Listening! -
Very comfortable! Not too loud - Good point

Pros: They fit very comfortable on my head.
Good cushion on the top.

Summary: The best earphones I bought so far. My first Sennheiser. I kept them for 1 hour long and could not feel anything on my head and ears even after I took them off. Sound is not too loud what is a pro considering the ears health. For this price it's is an excellent purchase. I'm not an audio professional but I like playing with music. I have some music app on my ipod touch and this phones block the outer sounds perfectly. The sound is clear. The bass is good but won't make your ears pump. Smooth bass! Recomend for sure

Cheap headphones with good sound quality
by hugh2112 on May 2, 2010
Pros: Very lightweight and comfortable. Can wear it for hours on end.
Good sound quality. I'm no audiophile but the sounds are very clear and crisp to my ears.
Earcups provide a good seal to prevent most noise from filtering in.Cons: The bass isn't as deep as I would like but that's only a minor point since equalisers can change that.
An in-line volume control would have been much appreciated.Summary: Got these for AU$35 and I'm loving it. The sound quality is much better than what you would expect and the build quality is pretty good. Yes, it'...
Summary: Got these for AU$35 and I'm loving it. The sound quality is much better than what you would expect and the build quality is pretty good. Yes, it's plastic but that's why it's also very light.
However, people who prefer the really deep, booming bass might not like these. -
Good for the price, but not the best.

Pros: The sound in the treble range is good quality, and the sounds do not mix or splash. With no modifications, they are very comfortable for long periods of time.
Cons: The bass sound is very weak.

Summary: For the money I paid (around $20.00), these headphones are fairly good quality. Know that the following review comes from a person who is very picky about music and sound quality. If the purpose of buying these headphones is simply to listen to music for nothing but entertainment with no analysis, they are more than sufficient. They have fair quality sound in the middle and high registers: it does not mix or splash. The bass, however, is quite lacking. I reinforced the structure of the headphones using duct tape (desperate times call for desperate measures), making them tighter on my head. This improved the bass response somewhat, but still the bass is lacking.

Good deal for the price
by heffeque on December 25, 2009
Pros: Actually I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality when the volume wasn't set to too loud.
They feel very comfortable even after long hours of exposure, at least not with my head size.
Good deal for the 25 euros I payed for them.Cons: I wouldn't recommend these for people who push music loud, specially bass.
At normal volume without bass strengthening the sound quality is very very good, seriously, but don't push them too much or the sound quality will go down.Summary: The sound quality isn't like 500 euro headphones, but they aren't like 10 euros headphones either.

They have very very good sound canceling (passive and closed) so just putting them on is nice for avoiding distractions.
I wouldn't recommend these for people who push music loud, specially bass. Just turning the bass up a little bit for some extra strength can mess the quality output A LOT. These are good headphones if you don't try to push too much out of them.
At normal volume without bass strengthening the sound quality is very very good, seriously, but don't push them too much or the sound quality will go down.
I also bought the HD 212 Pro and at normal volume the sound quality is very similar. Turn the bass up a bit (or a lot) and there you can understand why the 212 Pro cost me 45 euros and the 201 cost me 25 euros.
Also... well the sound canceling is via closed headphones so... it's a good thing for noisy places, but you're supposed to REALLY listen to music in silent places so open headphones would be a better option if you really want top notch quality. I like to cut outside sound so I prefer closed headphones in my case but I AM conscious that closed headphones aren't helping me get the really best sound quality.
All in all... pretty darn good sound quality IF and only IF you don't turn the volume and/or bass up too much. In that case... very very good quality for what you pay for, seriously. -
These have to be mis-priced

Pros: Very clear sound - and I think the bass is perfect
Cons: Long 2 sided cable

I've owned a LOT of headphones over the years. Many Senns, Grado SR60's, HD485, HD414, Koss Portapros, Senn mx75's, Shure se310's - you get the picture. Of all of them, the SE530's win by a landslide - but you'd expect that. The 530's also provide me with a pretty good reference point for other cans. In fact, they've spoiled me for all the others with one exception - you guessed it - the HD201s. And for less than 25 small ones.
Don't get me wrong, I hear the difference between these and the 530's, but these suckers are a lot easier to put on (and remove quickly when necessary), and I love them - imperfections and all.
I have a decent Sony MP3 player and I have to turn it nearly all the way up (which the Sony does quite nicely). I also use the 'clear bass' setting in the eq and boost the highs a bit. When this is done, these cans are very, very satisfying. Bar none.
I hate false boomy bass, and a lot of Senns have this, unfortunately. The bass on the 201's is just how I like it. They go pretty deep without problem, but with no boominess at all. Plenty of punch. I've seen reviews on other sites that complain that the bass is low and highs get distorted. I'm pretty sure the problem with those reviews is in the source, not the headphones. They do require a reasonable amount of clean power, but a good MP3 player can satisfy them no problem.
Detail in the highs is also very good - lots of detail available. Steely Dan has lots of subtle detail mixed in with decent backbeats, and I can hear it all pretty well. Again, my se530's make those details shimmer, but at more than 10 times the price.
From my iPod days, I'd have to say that the 201's will require a cMoy amp (or any heaphone amp for that matter)if you want good bass without distortion when using an iPod. If you boost the iPod bass to try to satisfy them, they will probably distort easily, but that's a comment on the iPod audio quality. Use an amp and that problem should disappear.
Anyway, I'm very very impressed. I ordered a set for myself so number one son can get his back! Most often, for a quick listen, I'm reaching for the 201's over my beautiful se530s. That says something. If Sennheiser had put these out at triple the price, they'd probably have sold like hotcakes.
Recommended and then some. -

Summary: I like these so much I have bought 7 or 8 pairs of these as gifts, and all of the recipients like them. They don't have the deepest bass or the brightest highs but it's a pleasant, balanced sound and they are comfortable enough to wear for a long time. Sound isolation is adequate to use on planes, but with some laptops or players you may not get enough volume.
