The good: The Sennheiser HD 201 headphones are very comfortable to wear, and the tough construction will last over long-term use. Noise leakage is at a minimum, and the overall sound is balanced as well.
The bad: The HD 201 headphones' cable may be too long for portable use, and the set doesn't come with a protective pouch for storage. Natural bass is lacking, and the maximum volume output is lower than most aftermarket headphones in its category.
The bottom line: Though the ultra-affordable Sennheiser HD 201 headphones provide natural sound and capable performance, commuters may find the low volume output an issue when listening to music in highly trafficked environments.

An incredible bargain

We all get caught up sometimes thinking that you have to pay a fortune to get high-quality tech gear. Not in this case. If you really require headphones that cost four (or ten) times this much, you have amazing ears. More power to you. The rest of us mere mortals can spend our money on something else.
The only drawbacks are that these don't fold for travel, and you can replace parts... then again, at this price you could just buy another pair!Updated
Should have said, "you CAN'T replace parts" as you can on higher-end models.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I don't regret my choice. I found these on the net. As i first just saw these cans on a picture, I've stopped looking for other. After readig of some reviews I just had to buy 'em. Surprised? NO. But happy to say that also not disappinted. They fit well, are lightweight, precisely manufactured, and materials seem to be more than of expected qality. But now what it is all about... the sound. Well. they play GR8 for what purpose I bought em, ehich is listeng to music while sitting in office and doing graphics. I do have HD270's (bought for my father =))and although i am no hi-fi freak...I do listen to music on my yamaha set often...I can tell that the sound is not the DJ's cans quality. But!!! When I tested them, i first put theese 201's on and had to crank the sound up to find flaws...to be honest... i did find the snare and crash cymbal a bit crappy. But not undesirable. Just after comparing them to the 270 series i heard some difference. The thing is now that the 270's did cost more than five times the cost of these 201 series. And a gr8 thing too is that theesee cnas perfectly play also with my sony MD, and the djs dont =). One flaw i found is the cable which when listening to quiet or some ambient music and mixing with the cable the material transmits the bumps onto the earphone body...and it sounds then like if I was tapping on the earpads (or whatever do you englishmen call it =) ) MY FINAL OPINION IS...BUY THEM IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CASH 4 SOME HIGH END WHICH PEOPLE ANYWAYS DON'T NEED FOR MOST USES. I HIGHKY RECCOMEND THEM. AFTER ALL_YOU WILL BE A OWNER OF S E N N H E I S E R __GET IT? =)

They do the job
by gr4ph1kP4ND4 on February 25, 2011
Pros: They're comfortable, they fit around your neck very well, rather sturdy, handles high volumes well, fits most people, good sound for the most part
Cons: the cord is long, not portable at all, they feel flimsy, the levels are even but there's not much of an oomph from the bass

Summary: I'm a wannabe audiophile. I love my music, but i dont quite know what i'm talking about so bear with me. My dad bought me these for christmas and they've sufficed since pretty well actually. In the past two years i've so-far gone through 17 pairs of headphones ranging from $4-$130 and so far these have held up pretty well. I listen to mostly rock, currently i'm listening to some rap and I'm missing the bass i'm used to from some of my old headphones.
I'm still in highschool so i try to take these everywhere (i mean everywhere...) and when i'm walking around NYC with these around my neck i find the cord extremely annoying. Its longer than i am tall and i really have no use for something like that. I currently have them wrapped up in a rubberband but heres the thing: the cord is really sturdy. When i go through headphones its because the cord breaks.
the good thing is that i can shove these into my bag and pile my pencils and other s*** on top and i know they wont get scratched or break, but the annoying part is that they dont fold up very well, and because of the plastic i'm always worried i'm going to crack them in half. they just feel flimsy, they bend a lot and even though they're light (which is really nice) they just dont quite feel strong.
these are really good to put one can on, one off (they dont push your off-ear foreward and make you look like a monkey, and the cans pivot so you can keep one on your ear). You can wear them around your neck and turn the volume up high enough to use them like personal speakers without losing too much quality (amazingly enough).
they do not keep out all noise. on the train you can hear the squeal of the tracks and the annoying couple arguing behind you. on the other hand in my room its great to drown out my two roommates (boarding school...). They're really great for drowning out those PMSing days...
One of my biggest pet peeves is being able to hear other people's music when they've got their headphones on. I just asked my roommate and i only got to two bars (i'm on a Mac, so 20% volume) before she could hear them across the room (there's a good 12' between us...) so if you're like me and you like screamo and you tend to get stuck with that old lady on the train these probably aren't for you (unless you dont mind getting yelled at about a: blowing out your ears or b: listening to acceptable music)
overall you really get MORE than what you pay for, but if you're looking for quality then i'd say raise your price range. the sound aint bad, the fit is great (i can wear them for hours and often do) comfort is good, durability is yet do be determined (most headphones of mine last roughly 4 months), not portable unless you're like me and you carry a backpack everywhere, long, long long cord... i dont know what else to say
hope this helped!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent value and good sound, but far from high-end
by Jon2106 on March 27, 2012
Pros: -Comfortable to wear
-Average sound quality
-Long cable
-Adjustable size
-Good build quality
-Isolates background noise pretty well
-Doesn't leak at smaller volume
-Covers ears nicely and doesn't leave annoying gaps
-Firm and durable plugCons: -Lack of bass, especially at lower volume
-Sound leak at high volume
-Leather padding too small
-Internal cable may snap
-Weird vibration at higher volume (sometimes)
-Cord tangles easily, and untangling is hard
-Size adjustment moves on its ownSummary: I bought these a year ago and the upgrade was worth it from $20 headphones. The sound quality may sound bad at first, but when you add volume the bass ...
Summary: I bought these a year ago and the upgrade was worth it from $20 headphones. The sound quality may sound bad at first, but when you add volume the bass gets richer and the highs and lows sound better. Isolates noise very well in a train, but the noise of a car or a plane is too much. I had to buy new ones because a cable snapped inside and the left speaker wouldn't work at all. Also, the size adjustment may move on its own if you move your head rapidly. The cord may be too long for portable use, but at home the long cable is good.
As I said, the bass isn't mind-blowing, but it isn't poor either, but you have to listen closely to hear the best possible sound. For an average listener like me, it is good enough.
Overall, if you're a normal listener or want to upgrade from very cheap headphones, these are a perfect match. -
Sennheiser HD201. Can't beat the quality for the money.
by mike5602148 on December 20, 2011
Pros: They fit my ear very snug. They encompass my ear which I like. I can hear instruments I never heard before listening to music. I had an old pair of Logitech headphones.
Cons: My own ignorance. I can't figure out what to do with the enclosed 6.3mm stereo jack adapter. It doesn't fit anything I have electronically. The cord is very long, but I like it long.
Summary: I wouldn't hesitate to buy these headphones. I would not pay $50 for them, which is the suggested retail. $15 or $20 I would. They work fine. I can'...

I knew I was getting a long cord when I purchased them. If I was concerned about the cord length I would have bought them.

THEY ARE VERY VERY GOOD
by newmarko on September 30, 2011
Pros: Well,i'm very satisfied with this pair of headphones...for the lower class of sennheiser they are very ,very good in their quality. They are on 24 ohms.... so the sound that they make is quite faster than 32 ohms... on other HD VERSIONS of headphones...

Comfortable, working headphones for their price range
by Marinozai on July 10, 2011

Summary: I was planning to get a pair of high quality noise canceling headphones when they were released, but I had to go on a trip that required me to sit on an airplane for over ten hours before the headphones I was going to buy came out. I needed some headphones for the plane, but I wasn't going to buy anything expensive, so I found these.
I am not going to say that these are good headphones, but I must say that I think they are some of the most comfortable for their price.
Pros:
-Comfortable. The cans aren't pillows, but they feel nice on my hears and do not hurt.
-Good sound for cheap headphones.
Cons:
-Though sound is in my pros, it is also in my cons because the sound is not the best. I don't like loud music, but if you do, the max is lower than most headphones. Also, the sensitivity isn't great, so you need to turn the volume much higher than other headphones to achieve the same volume.
-The cord. 3 meters? Really? I don't get it.
If you need some comfy, working, headphones fast, these will do the job. -

High range? A little bit lacking but not enough to make an issue.
Mid range? True to source and really quite good.
Will they match high end expensive Headphones? No, however, as rated by the experts, these truly are the "best of class".
Best suited to a PC or laptop with a sound card and/or amplification rather than Ipod or MP3 Player.
Read over 500 reviews of this Sennheiser model and compared to similar and pricer competition such as Kross and various other name brand products.
Drove sales staff at both Dick Smiths & Office Works crazy with questions and demonstrations.
Paid twice going rate on Amazon despite AU$1 currently valued at US$1.06 - what's the story? This is a bit disappointing - the freight costs should not equate to this price differential.
Despite this - am happy with this purchase. Consider good value, especially in price range.
A tip: To keep in good condition and provide maximum comfort, apply Leather Conditioner to the
leatherette Headphone pads and headpiece on a regular basis to stop cracking and to mold to
your best fit. -
