Summary: Bought these headphones after reviewing a couple other models. First impressions out the box was good but after about 12 hrs of burn in i really heard the bass get more definition and overall sound was better. Tried it on multiple sources including ipad, ipod, sansa clip zip, and my onkyo receiver. People say most devices shouldnt have any problem driving a 50ohm headphone but i would have to pretty much max out my volume on the ipad and ipod to get normal listening levels.
Normal meaning i wouldnt need any higher volume. I do think their alittle under powered on those devices. On my Sansa clip zip (rockboxed) however im able to get a slightly higher max volume and the sound is much nicer, more controlled. The receiver gave me pretty much the most out of the headphone and sounded the best with very high volume. So in my opinion it does matter how you plan to use these headphones.
Built quality like everything says is just Okay. Its made pretty much of all plastic which does kind of concerns me for the future as i do like to travel and sometimes they just get stuffed in my luggage. The cord is pretty long, about 10ft so its kind of a hassle for portable use and to replace it is difficult since the headphone side plug is proprietary so a custom cable would have to be made from the oem to shorten it.
Fit is great but alittle tight for me out of the box, it should ease up over some time. Its very light since its plastic. I know earlier batches had issues with cracking on the plastic on the sides where it says "sennheiser" but supposedly this was fixed by sennheiser early this year and all new stock are free of this issue. Ive tried to contact sennheiser to find out if theres was a specfic serial number identification technique to determine the manufacturer date but i did not hear back.
I know theres been alot of talk about bass but for me personally i feel like the bass is excellent, I feel like the bass has a nice and strong punch without being over the top, Sounds very solid. If you require more you can boost up alittle eq in your device. Rockbox eq boost is great and really compliment these headphones well. I read forums about people saying these headphones are bright. Yes i do feel they are on the bright side but i think thats why i enjoy them so much. It really is an impressive sound after coming from IEM's.
Another thing to take into account is that these are Open Headphones meaning, the back of the actual Phones have open grills to allow the driver to bring in air. what this does is it allows the driver to deliver a bigger punch in bass and a brighter, wider soundstage. Its a totally different listening experience coming from closed headphones which are more suited for portable since Open headphones will give sound leakaged and everyone can hear it.
At volume levels that i normally play music, the sound leakage is pretty high. Someone sitting next to me would be able to head the music pretty clearly. Since they are open i feel that i need to play the music alittle higher than i normally do on any other headphone since the sound is leaked and its really not as loud as it really seems. Even though it may seem im blasting the headphones, if you put them on it doesnt sound like its super loud if you get what i mean. Thats the nature of open headphones.
I enjoy music and have so for many years, My primary phones before this was UE triplefi 10 so i wanted to get something for home use and decided on this since i didnt care about sound leakage. Im obviously not an audiophile but i do have my own opinions.
*Note, for low prices of these headphones, if you're will buy them, I suggest you have to compare prices before you decide at: *****************.info/Sennheiser-HD598

Beautiful excellent sounding headphones at an ok price.
by CPJunior on March 12, 2012
Pros: Excellent sound quality, perfect balance between highs, mids and lows. Excellent soundstage. Not at all uncomfortable like most phones of its size.
Cons: Sound leaks even at low volumes possibly bothering nearby people. Doesn't cancel outside noise very much. Long chord and native P10 adapter could be a pain if you are intending to use it on the go.
Summary: These headphones are built perfectly. Even though they aren't by any means small headphones, they aren't uncomfortable to use. If, like me, you want a phone you can ...
Summary: These headphones are built perfectly. Even though they aren't by any means small headphones, they aren't uncomfortable to use. If, like me, you want a phone you can use both in and outdoors mind that the very long chord and native p10 adapter might be a little bit of a pain, but the sound quality and specially the soundstage totally make up for any other inconvenience.

You can hear the smallest sound...Cons: I knew about below but pointing out for new buyers.
- There's some sound leakage when I pass 50% volume in Spotify. Around 75%, a colleague sitting 5 meters away can get disturbed :-)
-Not much noise cancellation.
-No protective carrying caseSummary: Overall it's one wonderful pair of headphones. My short list was this and Beats studio headphones by Dre. Not being overpriced, not having too much bass, not having to ...

But in a future I want to buy hi-fi amplifier or headphone preamp.
And I think that Sennheiser HD 598 sounds like a hi-fi loudspeakers about $1000-$1500 cost range.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Ok, so we know some of the specifics regarding what type of driver is in the phones, (its stated superior construction "duofol"), the freq response, interpretation - sound quality, but in all the reviews listed, no one has mentioned in the specs or review the SIZE of the drivers. Really, if you have the unit in your hands, how do WE know if the driver differs from other models or are the same or similar? Someone please at least measure a pair that was given a trial run for review. Thank you!
