Sennheiser PX100 (black) price range: $35.43 - $59.95

The good: On-the-ear miniheadphones; rugged, collapsible design; hard plastic storage case; two-year warranty.
The bad: May be a bit too sweet-sounding for listeners who prefer a harder edge.
The bottom line: The PX100 is a good choice for travelers seeking a compact headphone design.
The $49 Sennheiser PX100 miniheadphones feature a unique fold-and-flip design that allows the earpieces to be turned 90 degrees. The entire headphone then collapses into a tight bundle that'll fit in a shirt pocket or inside the provided sturdy transport case.
Besides the twist-and-fold design, the PX100s feature several other noteworthy characteristics. Metal joints on the padded-steel headband help ensure maximum durability, while Sennheiser's Duofol diaphragms and powerful neodymium magnets are intended to produce low-distortion sound. Even the cable is special; the four-foot oxygen-free copper span is superflexible, despite being reinforced with Kevlar. It's fitted with a standard 1/4-inch stereo minijack plug. The ear pads are replaceable, and Sennheiser provides a two-year warranty.
We used our 15GB iPod for all of our PX100 evaluations. The little 'phones produce a rich sound, with laid-back treble detail. While some listeners will appreciate the lack of harshness, it sounded awfully sweet on acoustic jazz and John Mellencamp's new blues-infused CD, Trouble No More. We would have liked a bit more treble detail with more-aggressive music; the White Stripes' gritty sound was a touch too mellow. On the upside, the PX100 can play loudly without breaking up, a feat beyond the capabilities of most headphones of this size.
Our issues with treble detail notwithstanding, the PX100 is a good choice for travelers seeking a compact headphone design that doesn't sacrifice comfort and overall sound quality.

Awesome! Highly Recommend!!!!!
Pros: I've had these for a month now and I absoluetly love them. They're convenient for travel and sound great. Easily the best headphones for the money.
Cons: Bass is a little weak at first, but my iPod equalizer fixes that and the sound does improve with breaking-in. Also there is a lot of sound leakage, so they won't work for someone who listens loud and in quiet environments.

Hi Fi Sound In A Portable Headphone!!!
Pros: These headphones have a great sound. The high end really opens up after about one week's use so disregard the CNET review which says that they are too laid back in the highs. The PX 100s have a very natural presentation all across the frequency band with
Cons: They don't play quite as loud as the Koss Porta Pro headphones but are loud enough.

Balanced response in a small package
Pros: These phones are well balanced, full and clear sounding... no unnatural bass boost like on the competing Koss PortaPro models or harsh high mids like the portable Sonys. (I bought both and returned them.) Excellent for acoustic music and classical. They f
Cons: They are a little flimsy, but they seem to be well made where it counts. I'd prefer if they were completely black without chrome, but that's a minor quibble. Compared to my Sennheiser HD-590s, these are bit harsher in the mids, but considering the price d

Great sounding headphones!

Summary: These portable headphones have great sound, but they need some adjustment in the style deparment. I prefer headphones that are behind-the-neck because they don't get in the way of your hair. Another complaint about these headphones is that when you break into a fast run, you can hear the wind whistling. In addition to that, these headphones are highly tangle-proned, but I believe durability compensates for that. Likewise, these headphones leak sound frequently, and of course, they lack noise-cancellation so be prepared to turn up the volume when taking the subway. Overall, these headphones would be a great buy for many users.

Brilliant set of headphones!
Pros: Very light, excellent folding design means it's easy to carry around without the wires tangling all the time. Sound quality is superb!
Cons: They feel a bit cheap at first and can get uncomfortable after long periods. You can't wear them in bed!

The BEST headphones I've ever had.
Pros: The sound is rich, with an amazing 15 - 12,000Hz range (It took about 3 hours for them to "break in"). They are well-built with metal huinges (they won't fall apart anytime soon). The carrying case is very practical and easy to use. Very light and comfort
Cons: There really aren't any, but BEWARE! all those mp3's you encoded at 128kbps are gonna sound CRAPPY! These headphones' frequency range means that all the encoding hisses and "beepy sounds" will be heard. This is not a con for the headphones though: One sho

Brings any MP3 player to life
Pros: Comfortable, breathes perfectly, clean highs, exceptional lows. Nothing else comes close. These should cost twice what I paid for them (bought 2 pairs). Perfect for my PC too. I can squeeze it the way I want to with an EQ.
Cons: Very high notes. Find a way to tone it down through EQ. Doesn't play well on weak MP3 player (6 milliwatt and below) - no biggie nowadays.

Only get better and better

Pros: stylish design, great comfort, superb built quality, increasingly improving sound quality with each use
Cons: carry case is bit bulky, leaks sound in and out, initially may sound bit week in mid range but improves with time
Summary: I'm obsessed with head phones. I've bought and test listened wide range of head phones in search of a perfect pair for my own specific needs.

I know everyone's needs and preference in headphones and sound characteristics are different. But most of us here is looking for headphones that suit listening MP3s on the go. Therefore, it needs to be light, comfortable, easy to drive with less powerful portable source and above all, great sound quality.
I've compared many headphones, SennHeiser and Ultrasone are my favorites. Sony's are cheaper alternatives with above average sound quality. Ear buds are most portable, but they all lack bass, which is very important to me. SennHeiser headphones offer strong bass. I have a pair of HD 457. It's a monster. Great bass, crisp highs, strong mid range. The only problem with it is that it's not very uncomfortable to wear. It's crushing my skull. After 20 minutes wearing, I start to have headache. The most comfortable headphone I've ever had is Sennheiser PMX 60. But it doesn't offer as much bass.
Now PX 100 offers great bass, responsive and detailed tremble, faithful reproduction in all ranges, sometimes too faithful. You can hear sound that you never heard before with other headphones in a music. Sometimes it can give you an illusion of flatness. But with time, the sound gets fuller, and mid range get stronger, and less sweet and less flatness.
It is a very stylish headphone with great design and built quality. It's highly polished. For some of us, it's very important to look little geeky as possible with phones other than ear buds. Full size headphones tend to make you look silly walking down the street. But I'm quite happy with the way I look with PX 100.
The bottom line: If you are looking for a headphone that's very light, comfortable and stylish, but still offer great bass and overall sound quality, PX 100 is the choice. I can't stress enough how important and rare a small and light headphone can offer strong and detailed bass. During my search, it seems that you either want small headphone with little or no bass, or you want a very bulky full size headphone with strong bass. PX 100 is the only one I found that offers both. BTW, you can never go wrong with Sennheiser.
Mine is white, which is fine. But I would prefer it to be silver if I had a choice. I'm just nit picking.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very satisfied considering the price
Pros: I bought these to replace some old koss portapros (also good cans) because I prefer the less harsh highs of the senns, they leak slightly less sound as compared to my portopros (i.e. less likely to annoy those around you), and I like the carrying case (al

non-fatiguing sound and very comfortable headphones
by dyn140 on May 17, 2009
Pros: really smooth, soothing & accurate sound - not perfect but accurate. compared to bose I'd say these are "honest" headphones..they don't over "hype" the treble and bass.
Cons: cable length could be a tad longer, wires a bit thicker
Summary: don't mind cnet's review regarding the top end. the top end is there (though not very extended - but quite good) . it all depends on your source recording ...
Summary: don't mind cnet's review regarding the top end. the top end is there (though not very extended - but quite good) . it all depends on your source recording and your source component. These headphones don't lie as bose noise cancelling headphones do. they don't artificially increase the treble and bass - boom and sizzle - to attract attention. But over time, you will appreciate these babies more than boom and sizzle types. I compared the bose & px100 on same recording and tried them both with and without amplification. Then used the same recording and played them thru dynaudio loudspeakers. True enough, the px100 gave me sounds that resembled the dyn's than the bose (of course you can't expect px100 to sound "like" a dyn - but u get the idea) . You only hear what's in the recording, nothing artificially added - the top end is there and the bass is quite good - not perfect, but quite good . remember, I am comparing a 40usd headphone to one costing several times more. if these were home audio speakers I would liken the sound character to the DM602 series 2 & 3 from B&W. they are quite soothing, not clinical but very relaxing .
