The good: The Shure SE315 earphones offer an exceptionally durable design. The package includes useful extras such as a case and the Shure Fit Kit.
The bad: The Shure SE315 earphones don't offer great sound quality across the board considering the price point. Getting a good fit takes effort, and these may not be comfortable for all people.
The bottom line: The Shure SE315 Sound Isolating Earphones offer an exceptionally durable design, but you can find better-sounding sets for about half the price.

Great sound, very tough
by TheOsprey on February 1, 2012
Pros: Great soundstage
durable design
over the ear moldable wires
very crisp and detailed
longer cord is nice for meCons: picky on fit
moldable wires take some work to dial in
takes awhile to learn how to place them
moldable wire can get hung up on each other but cords don't tangleSummary: The first month or so I would have agreed with the reviewer, kind of thin and hollow sound at first. I was coming from the se210's and thought I ...
Summary: The first month or so I would have agreed with the reviewer, kind of thin and hollow sound at first. I was coming from the se210's and thought I knew how to fit foam buds and over the ear. I didn't even realize I didn't have a good fit since I thought I knew what that was and how to get it with the Shure's. Low and behold, I actually needed a different sized (bigger) foam insert than the other Shure's I had owned. I can't be sure but definitely sounds like what happened with her. Especially if she didn't use them very long. I had the same impression of the buds until I got them right.
Once I got a really good seal and more adept at putting these in (they are difficult until you get used to it) then the sound really opened up. Much larger soundstage and more balanced with better bass than the se210's. Even though these aren't dual driver's, I think they are right on the cusp of where you can hear it if you aren't using good quality material. Stepping up the bitrate of what I was listening to also helped a lot. These sound pretty amamzing once you get them dialed in. I think they have great detail and sound really good with acoustic, bluegrass, country. maybe not the best for rock. easily worth the price tag. -
Some good, some neutral.....
by martian0053 on May 1, 2011
Pros: The sound quality is very crisp all around, and after fooling with the fit and installing aftermarket tips it became deep and rich while retaining clarity. Not the amount of base I got from a pair of Klipsch buds for about half the price, but also did not
Cons: The SE315's are very picky about thier placement. If one gets tweeked a little in the ear canal the bottom end drops out of the sound. This happens a little to easily for my liking even with a good fit attained through the right size and style tips.

Summary: I purchased these as much for the durability as the Shure sound quality. I got what I expected and find myself smiling at the SQ while listening to many different styles of music through these. I have had better sounding buds for a little less money, but they all fell apart within months of owning them. I cannot forsee this being a problem with these because of the high quality build and the detachable cord. So far I have used them just about daily for 6 months and feel like it was a good purchase but did not have the mind blowing staisfaction that I felt with my first pair of Shures soemthing like a decade ago.

great choice for a amateur audiophile
by calebau on January 31, 2011
Pros: Extremely durable-i have slept and sat on them,
Bass-Strong yet crisp, doesn't muff up
Vocals- crisp, warm vocals
Fit-Great fit for my ears
Warranty-foam buds got stuck, the warranty guy broke the bud to get it out and he gave me a new packCons: Cons:
Treble-lacks the sparkle but definitely not bad
Wiring-Sacrifices weight for durability, the wires pull hard onto your earsSummary: I love these IEM's
These headphones offer a great balance to a amateur audiophiles (like me) who doesn't want to sacrifice any bass for warm vocals.

These headphones offer a great balance to a amateur audiophiles (like me) who doesn't want to sacrifice any bass for warm vocals.
I sometimes see shure as macs (comparing them to windows), it definitely costs more than other brands like westone and UE when comparing their line of single drive IEM's, but shure produces high quality products that will satisfy almost anybody with their great vocals -
Great Headphones, but depends how you use them
by rollinghead on January 21, 2011
Pros: Quality build, love the detachable cord.
Cons: Not good enough to be used as an in-ear monitor!

Summary: These are outstanding headphones if you want to wear them on an airplane, or otherwise use casually. However, I bought these to use for my monitor mix for live performances (I'm a drummer), and they just don't cut it. Before I bought them, I searched online for reviews from other musicians, without luck! Anyway, if I can save any musicians the hassle, don't bother using these for monitors. I am upgrading to the SE535s.

Amazing Earphones That Are Well Worth the Price!

Summary: I, like the other reviewer thus far, hold these earphones in much higher regard than the CNET reviewer. I have also tried the Klipsch S4's and completely disagree about them being, in any way, superior to the SE315's. If anything, their mid's and low's aren't anywhere near as pronounced and their high's are tinny compared to the SE315's. Not to be unexpected at their price point, for sure, however nowhere near as good as the SE315's as the CNET reviewer claims.
The benefits of the SE315's, aside from their great sound quality, include their superior build quality and detachable cables. No longer do you have to purchase, (or send away for) a completely new pair if your cables are damaged in any way. This cuts down on cost and adds considerable convenience.
As far as the sound goes, the SE315's sound, in my opinion, very close to their multi-driver cousins, (which reside in a much higher price bracket). For the money, the SE315's provide great sound as well as the build quality of much more expensive ear phones.
The only con some may experience is the "over the ear" cord design. I used to have Shure E4c's and did this anyway, so I was accustomed to it, (and it is by far a superior way for the buds to securely placed into the ear) but some may feel odd at first with this configuration.
Overall, for those that appreciate sound quality, (but can't afford the absolute best) and high build quality, this set of ear phones is worth every penny. You will not be disappointed. -
These earphones have gorgeous sound and very durable.
by headquincey on October 16, 2010
Pros: The durability is great with these, especially because of the replaceable cable. Sound is amazing. I can hear only my music at my mp3 players lowest volume. No doubt worth the price.
Cons: Kinda expensive, but definitely worth it.

Summary: While they may be more expensive and of similar sound quality to other earphones of ~120ish, I have found Shure's warranty and their new cable promises to definitely be held. My old shure 310's died 4 months ago, so I bought on CNET's review the Klipsch image s4's. The wire kinked after 2 weeks and the warranty people said it was due to rough use, thus they would not give me a new pair.(although I use them daily, I am very careful with my investment.) I only had to replace my shure's because he warranty was over, but when I used the shure warranty, they helped quickly and almost without question when my previous cable frayed. The quality on these are also definitively better than the klipsch, because you can't even make a seal with those headphones. If you are a slight audiophile, than these are probably the best earphones for you. I could not have been happier with my purchase.
