If you buy these headphones, you're stealing Sony's money!!
by eandradams on September 26, 2006
Pros: Great sound, loud but clear, great bass
Cons: Not for portable use?!?
Summary: These headphones should be $60.00 minimum. I am listening to music on my iPod as I write this, and I still feel like I stole from Sony.
The bass ...Summary: These headphones should be $60.00 minimum. I am listening to music on my iPod as I write this, and I still feel like I stole from Sony.
The bass response is full and rich, the highs are clear and sharp enough to cut someone. The middles and vocals are full and present.
As for DVD watching, these phones do a good job of representing directional sound for a product that makes no claims in the area whatsoever. Whether it's "My Dinner with Andre'" or "Saving Private Ryan", sound reproduction is excellent.
With full pads around the ears, and a wide band across the top of the head, you can wear these cans for hours without discomfort (unless you crank 'em too much for your eardrums). The 10 meter cord can feel too long at times, but comes in really handy for late-night television.
My only con is that some people might think that these headphones aren't for portable use. Well, let me tell ya--These sound so good, you won't mind the looks you get.
If you're still reading this review, I have one question: Why? You should be buying these headphones already. You won't be disappointed.6 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great, for the price
by martin hacquard on July 17, 2005
Pros: Very confortable, very light, single side cord, good base with interestingly fonctional base boost on headphones
Cons: A little fragile, a little bulky in size, intended for indoor use only

Summary: This is no doubt an odd move for Sony who has for years offered nothing in this segment at such a price. This is by no means an audiophile quality headphone, but rather an effort to compete with low end quality home headphones. In this regard Sony has no doubt released a great product that offers great looks, terrific wearability and sound that is very adequate for this price range. Highly recommended for computer or home audio-video use.

Great on-ears for an amazing bargain!
by gadgetguy145 on August 23, 2011
Pros: Great sound, powerful bass, decent price, clear vocals
Cons: Might get some funny looks when wearing outside, sound modes have no noticable differences
Summary: When I found these on Argos for £20.00 I was torn between these and the Sennheiser 201's. I honestly admit (after reading some reviews) that I ...
Summary: When I found these on Argos for £20.00 I was torn between these and the Sennheiser 201's. I honestly admit (after reading some reviews) that I made the right choice. The sound quality is spectacular, with rich, piercing vocals, party-worthy bass and sounded great whatever genre of music I was listening to.
They had a lovely build quality but I found that they were clearly not intended for portable use, but with sound this good you wouldn't care about the funny looks!
A perfect upgrade for the stock iPod earphones for people with a budget.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Amazing clarity both in music & movie mode.
Cons: Low bass when compared to other Sony headphones.
Summary: This pair of headphones is an excellent choice home theater & the design is also very good almost as good as AKG.

Great Headphones for the prize
by ajkim7 on December 12, 2010
Pros: great sound quality
great price
thick wiresCons: headband comfort
10 inch cord
sound mode switch does nothing

bass heavy but not over powering 4 out of 5 stars
mids sound good 4 out of 5 stars
high sounds good 4 out of 5 stars
With the 70 ohms, the volume is not going to be loud. ex. on a ipod touch in order to get a descent amount of volume one would have to put it up to 70 percent.
comfort not the greatest 3 out of 5 stars
all the pressure is directed on the top of the head
the cord, 10 ft long, is way too long but feels and look very durable
ear padding is great though. soft and comfortable it goes around your ears and not on it
seems sturdy enough to not break when dropped.
compared to other headphones
sennheisers hd 438
The sony's are way better in sound quality.
More bass heavy. The audio sounds more clear and real.
The hd 438 sounds more balance in all high, mid and lows. Takes more volume to hear than the sonys mdr xd200. Sounds quiet.
However it is more comfortable and fits perfectly. The option to switch wires is very appealing. Plus the hd 438 original price is about 100 dollars. Way too expensive for what they can give.
Overall I recommend the sonys in price and sound
Sennheisers PXC 450.
Between the two the sound quality is very similar. The pxc 450 might have a slight edge.
Comfort goes to pxc 450s.
The pxc 450s are noise cancellers and the sony's are open ear headphones.
The price of pxc 450s is 449. Way too expensive in my opinion.
Overall I recommend the sonys in price
Skull candy crushers
The sonys are way better in sound.
The skull candy crushers sounds muffle and distorted. More bass heavy
The comfort depends on the person. If you like your cans around your ears then you would want the sonys. If you like it on the ears then you would want the crushers.
The price is very similar.
Overall I recommend the sonys in sound.
BoseĀ® Over-the-Ear Headphones
They both sound great. The sony might be more base heavy and might sound dull compared to the bose
The bose seems to cancel outside sound better
The comfort goes to bose.
The sonys seems more durable.
The bose are worth around 100 dollars.
Overall I recommend bose if comfort is important for you if not the price for sonys is better.
Grado: SR80i Headphones
They both sound great. The sonys might sound a bit dull compared to the grado.
Comfort goes to grado.
The sonys seems more durable
The grado's are worth around 100 dollars.
Overall I will buy the sonys in price.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great buy.
by President_Panda on August 24, 2006
Pros: light, great sound output, comfortable.
Cons: Fragile, amplifies outside sound when nothing is playing.

Summary: I bout these for thirty dollars at Target and I've been entirely satisfied. If you're looking for a big pair of stereo headphones without paying too much, then these are a great choice. The sound quality is emmersive, and while these aren't noise cancelling, they do block out outside noise rather well. One interesting thing to note is that when there's no music playing and the headphones are silent, they tend to amplify outside noise and actually make it seem louder, but this really isn't a problem. The headphones are light - much lighter than you'd expect, and the padded, ergonomic earpads are extremely comfortable. Overall a great buy, as long as you're not a complete audiophile.

Summary: I just purchased these headphones today looking for a nice but reasonably cheap pair of tradtitional headphones. They sit on your ears very comfortably. They have good noise isolation because on the way home from purchasing them people were talking to me in the car I could barely understand them. The headphones have good bass also. These headphones are an awesome bargain for $30. I would suggest that you buy these if you are looking for headphones in this category and price range.

These are boss headphones.

Summary: I usually use these while gaming. They have loads of base, I can wear them for a few hours without discomfort, I can crank the volume without every sounding "clipped" AND I have freedom to move around the room. Overall, good headphones. Just don't try to take them anywhere if you're going to have to take them off at any point.
