Summary: Okay, here's my background - broadcast production, engineering and talent, both on local and national stages. For someone who worked on news and in-studio, I would wear headsets day-in and day-out - quality and range of sounds are crucial, so is durability. Having used a lot of headsets from Koss Pro4AA in the 1970's and onward, its important to work with the best. There are a lot of headsets that claim to be professional, but in name only. The Sony MDR-7506 is the real thing. Rugged construction which holds up on location, as well in the studio. The sounds you hear are what the audio engineer created, no coloration - bass is smooth without the muddy boomness of many brands and models being offered. Also important, these are headsets one can repair, rather than throwaway models that can get expensive over time. The cans even come with a graphic/text service manual to make maintenance and parts ordering easier. Don't lose it, put it in your files. The flexible steel headbands and high quality parts make it one rugged mother! Sound quality over the frequency range is crisp, clear and natural. From a professional point of view, you'll really want to own a pair of these. From an in-home perspective, you'll love them! You won't find them in a Big Box Store - got mine from JandR out of New York! These really are the cream of the crop, you won't be dissapointed!

Summary: I originally purchased the 7502 which are very good sounding headphones at a lower price; but, are not as durable as the 7506's (The lightweight band broke). I use these for mixing live and studio recordings as well as with my Sony MP3 player. I highly recommend these for accurate sound mixes as they provide a very clean sound at all frequencies. This is especially useful when relying on the accuracy of headphones for mixing tracks. Some other headphones create a nice sound, but masked the mix. As a testimonial, I have put these on the heads of other people (pros and casual listeners) who have immediately ordered their own set. The only surprise is that the plastic ear covering material is extremely thin and wears out in short time. Not that much of a problem as the cusion material underneath is durable.

Good sound, but not durable at all.

Pros: The sound quality of these headphones is really good. They're comfortable.
Cons: The hinges on the earcups broke repeatedly and I devolved to holding them together with superglue. After less than 1 year of use the sound in the right ear stopped working. The springy cord is annoying.

Summary: I've owned a pair since 1994, and it's seen constant use since then - still works fine. Music reproduction is pretty good and it's just fine for old time radio.
It's also very rugged. Other than the earpads disintegrating over time, which is natural, there's been no other breakage.
I finally decided to get new headphones. I first bought the MDR-V600's which are ok, then I tried the Ultrasone HFI-650 which blew both of them away. But to be fair, this Sony wasn't designed to be in the same league as the much more expensive Ultrasone. The 7506 does what it was designed for and does it well.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

They Last Forever!
Pros: Great sound, convenient (they fold up nicely), very comfortable. I have had mine for about 8 years now, and they still work flawlessly!
Cons: The ear cushions started to fall apart after a couple of years, but they are very easy to replace.

Amazing quality headphones

Pros: I've stolen from Sony. The sound is amazing,clear,loud,pristine,you name it. The bass is incredible, and the noise isolation is outstanding.

Pros: Excellent sound, springy cord, durable construction, folding design, carrying bag, 1/8" and 1/4" connectors.
Cons: I do not have any, but others may not like the cup size or longer cord which may get caught on things.

Summary: I enjoy the accurate sound reproduction (20-20 Khz. which is the limits of most human hearing). It is very even without tinny highs or muffled bass. I've listen to these on a computer, iPod, and playing Guitar through a Guitar amp, and the sound was awesome every time.
I've listened to lots of genres of music on these and everything sounds good. Flamenco guitar, vocal Pop, Heavy Metal, Rap (Old skool), all sound great. Live Music even sounds more "Live" if that's possible.
I've tested these against many, many different sets (Sennheiser, Panasonic, other Sony, Koss, AKG, and Bose) and for me, these sounded best overall. Thanks to all the sales people who let me open them all and let me try for myself. Which is what I recommend to anybody buying headphones. -
A great pair of headphones!

Pros: The sound quality is spot on, they are very comfortable, have good bass quality, and the headphones cancel out roughly 80% of the ambient noise.
Cons: There really aren't very many. The cable to the headphones is too long, and that is about it.

Summary: I've had many earphones throughout my life and career (as a former broadcaster, producer of many classical recordings, major orchestra concert producer, etc.), but these remain among the best at any price. For 100 bucks, they're terrific.
Others have commented already about the excellent frequency response (I especially enjoy the natural-sounding low end and distortion-free top) and have generally praised their durability and quality. Add my kudos to theirs.
A concern: the excellent sound makes it possible to listen at sound levels that may not be healthy...so be forewarned. Excellent choice!
