  Slightly better than normal in-ears, whilst stationary.

  Pros: Sound quality, nice base clarity.

  Cons: - The difference between passive and active is hardly noticeable.
  - Cord is too long and NC unit weighs against the ear buds, pulling them out

  Summary: In-ear headphones already do a great job of blocking the outside noise, so that the cancellation effect isn't as noticeable as for the headphones with NC.

  Plus you have to deal with the stupidly long cord, complete with NC unit which acts as a sinker, pulling your ear buds out if the NC unit is not clipped to your clothes in just the right way - this doesn't happen with NC headphones as the have the overhead band to support the weight. You can't just wake up, plug in and roll to work - you have to formulate a strategy of how to best accommodate the cord/NC unit or risk having to reinsert your ear buds every 10 paces. I'm sure it'll become second nature soon...
  
  If you're thinking Noise Cancelling don't bother with the in-ear/ear bud variety, you can't even return them to the store!

  It's actually really good as for the noise cancelation

  Pros: Very good noise cancelation in low frequency environments (trains & buses). Very good fitting for the ear. Very good quality for both the cord and the earpiece itself. Comes with 3 ajustable sizes. The cord is also designed for anti-falling from neck

  Cons: Noise cancelation doesn't block out high frequency sound very well (people talking). Its also quite a large pice of equiptment sticking out of your ear.

  Summary: I've had this earphone for quite a while now and i havn't had any problems with it whatsoever. For $100 i would recommend that you get this product if you get really annoyed of ambient noise with your listening to your music.

  Noise isolation good, Noise cancelling not noticeable

  Pros: Looks noise and has great quality in manufacturing. Cord is good quality. Good fit in ear canal
  Good quality sound for all kinds of music. Isolation for train, car and low to medium frequency up to 70-80 decibels noises is good. Cuts by half at least.

  Summary: Looks good, and works well. I don't think the noise cancelling makes it any better. Not worth $100 that I paid let alone Sony RRP at $169. If I knew it does not work for high frequency noises, I would have not bought it cause I went to buy something for use on my motorcycle.
  If I could return it, I would, but being earphones due to hygiene regulation in Australia, you cannot return them.

  These worked for what I needed them for.

  Pros: Good sound, good noise-canceling on the plane, long battery life. There is a piece to shorten up the cord if needed.

  Cons: Cord wind-up is inconvenient. Should have done an attached velcro or retractable mechanism. It gets tangled in the bag too easily.

  Summary: This worked well to dull the buzz of the plane noise. There was a noticeable difference (increase in ambient noise) when I would turn off the canceling function at the end of the movie. For me the long cord was a good thing as I had more flexibility in my set-up and with the armrest holding the jack, I would not have been able to bring that closer to me with a short cord.
  
  I had no problem with the bulk of the box holding the battery, as that is also where the clip is located so I just put it on my seatbelt or clothes and it worked fine. And speaking of bulk, being earbuds made them more portable for travel and less clumsy wearing on the plane.
  
  With the canceling on, it was definitely possible to listen at a lower volume, which saves my hearing in the long-term.
  
  All-in-all, this was a much better purchase for me than a $300 pair of over-ear headphones.
