V-Moda Bass Freq earphones (white) price range: $24.99 - $29.95

The good: The V-Moda Bass Freq earphones are available in several stylish colors and are competitively priced at $50; they're louder than other earbuds and offer great sound quality.
The bad: Music coming from the V-Moda Bass Freq earphones may be too bass-heavy for audio purists; thin cable tangles easily and may not hold up in the long run.
The bottom line: V-Moda's Bass Freq earphones are the perfect accessory for bass-loving Creative Zen Micro owners who are on a budget. If you prefer less low end, look elsewhere.
These ears get to hear a lot of great- (and horrible-) sounding headphones, but the style of these musical monitors rarely changes: black and white synthetics are the norm, with an occasional chrome accent. V-Moda aims to change look of our ear wear with two lines of fashion-forward earphones, the Bass Freq and the Remix M-class, both competitively priced at $50 a pair. The Bass Freq, a brightly colored bass-enhancing model, is the subject of this review.
The Bass Freq earphones' main style point is the brightly colored earbuds and cable. You can choose from eight colors: black, blue, camo, green, orange, pink, red, and white. The camo version features an olive cable and orange earbuds with olive accents, but the rest of the styles are uniform in color but for a bit of chrome accenting. The result is a fashion-forward design that can blend with your favorite outfit. And though I didn't expect the stylishness to make much of a difference in practice, it did: the colorful cord is much more jewelrylike--and thus looked significantly more stylish running down the front of me--than the thick white cord of my Shure E4cs. Also, though the 46.5-inch cable is insufficient for most at-home use (with your computer or stereo, for example), I found it to be the perfect length for on-the-go use.

As is standard for sub-$100 headphones, the Bass Freq earphones come with few extras, but I was surprised and pleased to find V-Moda's Modawrap in the box. It's a simple-but-handy tool for stowing your cord--and you'll want to use it, because the Bass Freq's ultrathin wire tangles easily. There are also three sizes of silicone ear fittings to help ensure a comfortable fit and provide the necessary seal to provide the deep bass that's implied by the product's name.
As for that implication, the Bass Freqs truly live up to their name. These 'phones really thump on the low end--just make sure you get a good seal in your ear. And I was pleasantly surprised by the overall sound quality of the 'buds, especially considering their low price point. The bass was heavy, but it didn't overshadow the mids and lows in most cases (a handful of rock songs had a slightly muffled quality to them). In general, music sounded rich, warm, and detailed. Hip-hop, jazz, and electronica tracks really shined; even certain rock songs were great--during the Clash's "London Calling," I felt like I was in the studio, and Depeche Mode's "Strangelove" sounded fantastically deep and dark.
Like their sibling, the Remix M-class, the Bass Freqs are also a surprisingly loud set of earbuds--they amplify the music from the sound source by a significant amount compared to other small earphones (so use caution when switching to these 'buds). This factor combined with the many color options make this a perfect set of earphones for the Creative Zen Micro Photo series of MP3 players.

Easily the best earbuds under $100!

Summary: I was a little skeptical when I first wanted to buy these headphones, but nonetheless, I forked over the $35 on Amazon.com for them, and they arrived within a week. Taking them out of the pack they were in might be a little hard, and you should definitely do it carefully, the 'buds might break. As soon as I plugged them into my iPod and played a song, I was like "Ooooh...myyyy...gooooood!!" the audio on this sounds 3 billion times better than the standard iPod earbuds!! The trick to getting the best sound is finding the earbuds that fit your ears the best, and most people will use the medium-sized ones. If you have any doubts whatsoever about this product, lose them immediately, and buy these earbuds! Trust me, you will not be sorry. And c'mon, it's just $35, it's not that much money. =)

when i first put them in my ear, it felt kind of wierd because i'm not used to in-ear phones.
it sounds great, when i was testing it out, i couldn't even hear someone calling me from down the hall. it sounds great w. r&b songs, but with rock, it the voice can be muffled. i fixed this by turning on treble booster on my ipod, but it kind of bothers me since more batteries are drained with the EQ settings on.
you REALLY can hear more detail.
another thing, it was kind of hard to take out of the box. it was pretty stuck in there. when i took it out, the silver piece snapped off partially and i had to snap it back in.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I researched earbuds for quite sometime on the internet, in magazines and with friends. It comes out to V-Moda on paper as being the best bang for the buck at $43 and some would place this product above others that cost more than $300. I love bass and I love a bargain so after reading all these reveiws about how V-Moda's bass freq was almost -too- bass heavy and loud I was reaching for my C.C. and then I read further to find out that some did not like the mids and highs while others praised them and yet others said they were ok.
After purchasing them on Amazon for a better deal than on V-Moda's own website I waited three days, impatiently, to get them and after the build up of anticipation I must admit: they DO have really good bass when and ONLY when the right song is playing else all is lost into a warbled mess of mids, highs and hard thumping blurred bass. So what did I do? I changed EQ on my Creative Zen to each preset and then went into the "Custom EQ" to make my own settings so now roughly 60% of my songs sound not only good but wonderful and the other 40% is just poor in sound.
I guess I am really happy that I didn't spend over $300 and get this but I will admit that these earbuds are quite a package (cord wrapping device, three sets of diff. size earbud attachments and they have cool music on their website) for the $43 I spent on them plus they remind me of my car stereo as far as bass goes. So, like a few people who have reviewed these earbuds I must state this again for it is very important: If you listen to rap, hiphop, techno or dance music you will appreciate this produce but if you like country, metal, oldies, classical, audiobooks and show tunes I'd have to recommend you steer clear of this product.
Curiously enough, I fail to see the fashionable qualities in these earbuds. I am not saying they aren't there but I just fail to see how earbuds can become a fashion accessory like their website tries to pass it off as. Yeah, it looks cool but they are just earbuds...
The reason I gave them a 7 of out 10 is because they are very good for bass heavy applications of music playing like they and others have said but I can't say they are excellent because they fail to accuratly reproduce all styles of music that I enjoy.Updated
After six months of owning this product the left earbud quit working so I sent it back to the company at my own expense and they replaced it, NO PROBLEM. But the plastic case holes that the earbuds were in were too much and ended up snapping my right earbud when trying to get it out. We shall see how much they stand behind their products after this.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Great, thumping bass- makes workouts (running or lifting) more intense. Earbuds stay in your ears. Blocks out other noise.

Summary: The sound of these things are great- but they are advertised: Bass Freq (Freak). Once you get the right earpads (depending on your ear size) -- the bass is huge and thumpy. You'll want to turn down the volume because the combination of louder phones plus isolation will make the music seem louder. This was BAD for me because I already listened to my headphones on the lowest setting while at work, and still very quiet otherwise (except during runs). These headphones may not be the best for an interactive workplace. However, sitting at my desk hammering through a project undisturbed- these were great!
For the gym these are wonderful- blocked out ambient noise, gym speakers, clanking. The bass really helps you get in rhythm and in sync. I'm more of a rock guy, but with these headphones I've let some certain hip-hop get in there and help push me with the driving beat. Down side- get used to popping these headphones OUT in a crowded gym if someone taps you for a spot or to work into your circuit.
For running... well this is one of the areas where I had an issue, but I think I'm just "unfortunate." I used the big ear pieces and I notice a LOT of cord noise- I let my coworker borrow the headphones and she didn't hear any. I moonlight as a musician so I notice a lot more than most people. Combine that with a tight toboggan and I could hear noise AND the extreme thumping of my feet on pavement (and I run light)-- After some adjustment it went away a bit, but I think most people won't hear it. It's something that's a possibility- but my coworker used them and didn't notice a thing, and ended up buying her own.
For the $29.99 I got them for- I'd buy them again. -

These headphones are generally not worth it. They do have lots of distortion free bass, but that's about it.
If bass is **ALL** you're looking for then maybe these are for you.
There's hardly any treble or clarity whatsoever. It's as if someone turned the treble all the way down on a boombox or something.
Just as bad is that fact that no matter what size rubber insert you use (it comes with 3, they are necessary or you'll have NO bass) these headphones create a very uncomfortable suction on one, or both, of your ears. Sometimes it creates so much suction that the drivers in the earbuds can't work anymore because their is to much of it (the driver can't moved forward or backwards much so it can't create much sound!!!).
GO WITH THE SENNHEISER CX-300, if you want good bass AND great all around sound in this price range.
After buying these I regretted my purchase and wished I had just gone with my original decision to purchase the Sennheisers0 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.
