V-moda Vibe (flashback chrome) price range: $39.95 - $59.99

The good: The stylish V-moda Vibe headphones amplify the audio from the sound source, and they come with several fun or useful accessories. Overall sound quality is very good.
The bad: The V-moda Vibe headphones are a bit overpowering on the low-end; may be uncomfortable for some users.
The bottom line: The V-moda Vibe headphones are a great option for style-conscious bass-addicts looking for some worthy portable headphones.
Headphone maker V-moda may be a newcomer in the digital audio domain, but you wouldn't realize it listening to the company's products. Both the Remix M-Class and Bass Freq earphones garnered positive critiques from the tech press, including CNET. V-moda is continuing its brand proliferation with the premium Vibe in-ear headphones ($101), another fashion-forward set that offers rich, if a bit bass-heavy, audio response.
The V-moda Vibe earphones offer the most understated design of all of the company's headphones: each pair offers a simple, black cable (approximately 48 inches long) with metallic accenting designated by the model. You can choose from gunmetal black, flashback chrome, or la mocha (not yet available at press time). The earpieces are small and stylish with an almost jewelry-like appearance, thanks to the shiny finish. The cable is quite thin, but seems durable, and V-moda includes a Modawrap in the package to help prevent tangles. You also get several sets of silicon fittings in three sizes, which should let most users create an effective seal with the ear. Comfort also should not be an issue for those with average-sized ears, but this small-eared reviewer found that the eartips put pressure on the inner ear cartilage causing some soreness after about an hour of use. The squishy foam fittings that come with Shure's E4cs are much more comfortable.
Although V-moda doesn't advertise the Vibe earphones as sound-isolating, the earbuds do a great job of keeping out ambient noise. They also include a small leather pouch, making them ideal for travel. V-moda throws in a card that gives you free membership to the company's VIP service. Benefits include event invites, product previews, and free podcasts of music mixed by selected DJs.

Rocks the other Shure/Etymotics if you want big sound

Pros: BIG soundstage for an in-ear, solid bass, great clarity and fit
Cons: Cable length great for portable use, but for home needs an extension

Summary: amazing product - I owned the Shure E4C and Westone UM2's at $300 as well as the less expensive Etymotic Er6i and E2cs at around $100-$140. I bought the vibes after hearing feedback at head-fi, and they do not dissapoint they are easier to put on, and are nearly weightless so I can wear them all the time. The soundstage is big compared to the other models i've tried, and the clarity and bass are pretty much the same too to boot. They may accentuate the bass and soundstage a bit more so its not as flat, but the soundstage really is different adds another dimension to the music lacking in the others - it seems to make a more live-like performance to the other models that are cold in comparison (the E4C does have some warmth compared to the Etymotic and E2c, but not the same soundstage as Vibe). I use a pair of full-size headphones that recreate soundstages, but this is the first in ear that could recreate that feeling.
A STEAL at the price compared to the others, and a no-brainer decision addition to your collection that sounds "fun".10 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very pleased for the price
by Kennibthe1 on December 11, 2006
Pros: Great look, Solid build and feel, Comfy in my ear, Sweet highs, Deep bass, GREAT VALUE!
Cons: Highs are a little bright, Not as smooth as two or three-driver buds

I was looking to buy a pair of UM2s, but when I read a review elsewhere online saying they liked these better than their Westone UM2s (at 1/3rd the price), I had to give them a try.
Personally I think the Shure e5s I used to own were smoother in sound, but they were also a dual-driver system. These are single-driver. Single can't really compare to dual-driver, but these are NOT that far off!!!
These also fit very well in my ears! I stick the gel tips in my ear canal and then the opposite end of the bud rests confortably against the cartiledge in the back of my ear keeping it pretty well sealed in place so I can work out and they stay put! And they block out sound fairly well that way. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being complete isolation from outside noises, these are probably a 7. Good enough that you don't have to crank the music to enjoy your tunes "noise" free.
Save some cash and buy these. Nothing else compares at this price-point, in my opinion.6 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good overall earphones

Summary: I tried out the UE superfi.3 and shure e2's for awhile but returned them (keep in mind they weren't totally broken in). But my vibes had much more presence. These earphones support a much larger soundstage compared to similar models. But depending on who you ask, not necessarily as natural of a sound.
The bass is deep and solid, and the highs and mids are nowhere lacking. However, vocals may be to shrill for some. Also, heavy guitar present in some rock music isn't reproduced perfectly, but I have yet to hear an in-ear headphone of this price to perform any better. They aren't as refreshing to listen to as my Grado's...but its hard to compare those two different types of headphones.
The overall sound is very fun and the look of these earphones is very appealing. I would highly recommend for a sub-$100 set of in-ear headphones. But if you are ONLY looking for sound quality, then you might want to turn your attention to over-the-ear styles.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Okay so before I bought these headphones I spent a few hours reading up on them and after I bought them I must admit I was a little dissapointed... don't get me wrong these headphones are great but I'll tell you why later.
First off they are probably the best earphones I have ever seen and the cord length is the perfect size and thickness IMO, and they provide you with plenty of spare earpads.
I have never owned a pair of good earbuds the Ipod earbuds I used with my Ipod just suck so I coudln't wait to upgrade them. Now the best headphones I own are Grado SR-60's so I guess it might have spoiled my ears because the lack of clarity/volume in the highs, especially the vocals really bothered me.
This is really the only complaint I have of the V-Moda's. I have been listening to them for about 2 months now and am sure they are broken in and everything. Don't get me wrong the lows are superb, the bass is rich the soundstage is really good for in the ear headphones and they really do sound awesome EXCEPT for the highs.
I mean the vocals sound like the singer is kind of distant and not right next to me. With the Grado's I can hear the breaths and every little change in the singers voice. Even in Hip-Hop tracks I was bumping my head to the bass heavy tracks but I wanted to hear more clarity and loudness in the spitting and breathing of the lyrics. Now I know earbuds can't sound exactly like headphones but I think this is where the V-Moda's need an improvement.
Raising the treble on the EQ helps a bit and a funny thing... if you insert the earbuds just enough so that they are borderline hanging in/out of your ear the vocals do get a bit clearer/louder but the bass decreases and you lose the richness.
I never realized positioning and earbud material/thickness could effect sound so much... perhaps if the metal opening of the earbud was closer or even the same length of the earbud rubber pad maybe the highs could be better? LOL... now I'm talking out of my *ss.
Did anyone else have the same experience? I think I need to go out and get a pair of Etymotic ER-6i now to really compare the 2.
So once again if the highs were clearer and stronger I'd give these earbuds a 9.Updated
I accidently gave it a 7... meant to give it an 8Updated

I listen to varying musical genres, jazz, hard rock, r & b, singer-song-writer, etc., and these perform well with all.
-- The build quality is excellent. Nothing else to say other than, very well made.
-- Sound quality is great as well. ( I use these with a Creative Vision M )They do create a "sound-stage" that others have mentioned, at least more so than the miriad of others I have heard.
Not being a audiophile, these to me sound "balanced". That is to say, highs, mid's and bass all come together without that "fight" that I've often experienced with others.
I really like the fact that I can listen to 1950's Coltrane jazz and subsequently jump to 1970's Rainbow rock, then go to 2000's J.Legend without having to adjust my equalizer.
The single-driver nature of these does offer limitations. Not that that's a bad thing, because no other single's that I've heard are equal.
Are they the best in-canal-buds I've ever heard...? No. But I can honestly say I can think of no other that I'd rather have under $200. (you can find them online for, I think $80 or less now) They do however remain my daily choice. (live in the city ((Chicago)) and ride the "el" everyday, and my riding companions never ask me to "turn it down")
-- These are handsome. I can't tell you how many people who have asked me "what are those"? Though, very compact in size. Smaller than any factory provided bud.
-- These fit very well. V-moda provides not only 3 different sizes of "attachment buds fittings" to ensure a perfect fit, but do so in multiple colors.
The overall weight is a non-factor. When in your ear for more than 15 seconds, you will forget that you're wearing them.
-- And best of all...THEY"RE NOT WHITE!
I rate these an 8 because when I plug these into my home system, some clarity is lost.

Very Nice Sound!
by rune2004 on January 5, 2007
Pros: High volume is reachable, MUCH more clear than stock Creative Earbuds, and they don't fall out of my ear like every other earbud I've ever tried.
Cons: I'm a little paranoid I'm going to actually break off the part that sticks out of the player itself... it sticks out far.
Summary: These earbuds have VERY nice and clear sound, especially for earbuds. I enjoy taking these with me wherever I go instead of taking those annoying big Creative earbuds. These are ...
Summary: These earbuds have VERY nice and clear sound, especially for earbuds. I enjoy taking these with me wherever I go instead of taking those annoying big Creative earbuds. These are actually quite a bit smaller than what I pictured myself holding when I opened the box, but that's a good thing. The cord is not too long so as to avoid messy tangles, and when it does tangle, it's easy to untangle due to the rigidness of the cord. Now for the important part: the sound. The sound from these headphones smashes ALL of the other earbuds I've ever used, save for a pair of Shures I used (they're $300, come on). They have a satisfying amount of base, don't sound NEARLY as tinny as ANY of the other earbuds, and they don't have shrill highs like when someone says an "s" in a song. Overall, I am VERY satisfied with my headphones, and I believe it would be quite hard to find anything near as good short of spending $300 for a pair of Shure or Bose earbuds. These headphones are definitely worth it, I give it a 9/10 because just like all other earbuds they get just a little bit uncomforatable. That's just in the nature of earbuds. If you don't have a huge budget and want some quality earbuds then look no further. Also here's my Equalizer settings for my Creative Zen that I find to be quite good:
80: -6
250: 0
1k: 4

Good bass, but lacking on the higher end
by rlorenz89 on August 31, 2009
Pros: Extremely nice base. Great for techno and, I would imagine, rap and hip-hop.
Cons: As a hard rock / metal listener as well, these were lacking on the high end. The mids did okay, but all crisp sound disappeared when listening to my audio. Why they couldn't better tune these to a more moderate sound, I'm not sure.
Summary: Only buy if you're looking for IEM's for techno, rap, or hip-hop. AVOID if you enjoy listening to rock, as your guitars and higher-pitched drums will disappear on ...
