The good: The Beats Solo by Dr. Dre Headphones from Monster offer a stylish, compact, and durable design that lends itself well to on-the-go use. The cable is ultranice and features an integrated mic, iPod controls, and volume rocker. Bass is thumping, and the package includes a handy carrying case.
The bad: The Beats Solo headphones may not be comfortable for everyone, audio is muddy overall, and they leak a fair amount of sound.
The bottom line: The Beats Solo by Dr. Dre Headphones from Monster offer a killer, travel-friendly design that's sure to turn heads, but the audio quality fails to live up to the price tag.

VERY DISAPPOINTED
by gigi11gigi on September 7, 2010
Pros: excellent sound
Cons: I purchased these headphones for my responsible sons 15th birthday, in 3 weeks they have broken 2 times. These are very fragile item I have every seen. Mr. Dre needs to be looking into this product, refunding everyones money and revamping the item.
Summary: Thank goodness that I purchased an extended warranty or I would be out $200. Buyer beware.

Muddy bass in an understatement
by ElVolto on May 9, 2010
Pros: Nifty folding phones, with detachable control cable and pouch.
Sound isolation is pretty good.
They look great.Cons: They sound wretched.

The bass enhancement is overwhelming. The mid range is harsh and the treble indistinct.
If you think thump thump thump is music, these may be for you.
If you know what music really sounds like stay away from these Dre(adful) earphones.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Style? Comfort? And Quality? All in one package?!
by djohns30 on November 27, 2009
Pros: Comfort of the product is exceptional.
Small and very lightweight
Snug fitting but not too tight
Great bass but not too overpowering
Sounds very good
Monster Cable is constructed well and has a nice feel and 90 degree angle at end
Style!Cons: I wish it was made out of a metal head band instead of plastic.

Summary: After my Sennheiser headphones decided to short out on me i was left with a delemia. What new pair of headphones should i choose? Well i had and repeat "had" decided to go with the Sennheiser HD 238 headphones. They are and on-ear headphone and i have read great reviews about the sound quality. But as i was testing headphones at best buy i was disappointed in the HD 238 they lacked sound volume. I brought my Ipod to test the music i would be listening to on these headphones and i found myself turning the HD238 up to maximum volume. Lets just say i was very annoyed but as I was about to leave I happened upon these Dr. Dre Solo Beats and said "what the hell". As i plugged in my Ipod i noticed the sturdy cord quality and the 90 angle of the headphone jack at the end. This makes plugging into the Ipod touch i have very convienient. As a put the headphones on i soon noticed the deminished levels in background noise as the talking levels in best buy (on BLACK FRIDAY!!!) were almost gone. I turned on the song Break Up by Lil Wayne. Instantly i was amazed with the bass in the song it was very punchy as if you were getting hit in the chest yet not overpowering to take control of Lil Waynes voice. I listened more and could hear slight details that were muted with my other headphones. Such as the lighting of a lighter and some background instruments that just were blended in with my other headphones. I then turned on Jay-Z's album The Blueprint 3 and listened to Reminder and loved the sound yet again. By now you are thinking well this guy only listens to rap and is narrow minded well not really. I also listened to Caress Me Down by Sumblime, Fireflies by Owl City, some Basshunter and some other song and I was equally impressed. Now the cord on the headphones is red and is very soft to the touch but feels sturdy enough to wistand the wear and tear of everyday use which i will be doing. The headphones are also portable and can be folded into a provided carrying bag which is a soft case. I would have prefered a hard case! Alll and all these headphones are a great purchase for your ipod as they can handle the little power from an ipod and turn the music into a delightful treat for your ears. If you do not like more than average bass in your music or over the ear headphones do not buy.

Worst headphones for the price
by asmartgoat on September 20, 2012
Pros: Good marketing makes idiots think that they have good headphones
Cons: Re EQ's the music. Makes your equalizer useless
Too much (muddy bass)
Has the qualities of a $30 pair with a dodgy EQ.
NO GOLD CONTACTS! ***
Too little, tinny treble.Summary: Awful headphones, Go look at some decent headphones that Dr Dre himself uses.

The best headphones, "beats" Bose!!
by SFChris.Net on March 16, 2010
Pros: Awesome sound quality, highly durable, can play music at extreme levels with out damage, great noise cancellation, the BEST
Cons: *Control talk does not currently work with Android or just about any music device. Hopefully monster will release an Android app or something to resolve this.

Summary: The bottom line is in the last 2 years I have gone threw: 2 Bose On Ear Headphones (first pair blew out, second pair right ear went completely out. The only reason the second pair did not blow out is I kept my phones music volume from going full blast, rattling was heard the first time I went full blast), 1 in ear Bose headset (blew out), and finally 2 Bose in ear headsets with mic (again first one blew out second one right ear went out completely. WOW whats up with the right ear Bose?).
After spending a sizable sum on headsets for my phone over the past 2 years I hardly blinked at the price and really thought what the heck might as well give them a shot. I must say I have zero regrets I could not be happier with the products quality and performance. They leave the previously mentioned Bose products in the dust, quality and performance wise they are not even in the same league. Yet Bose manages to think they are when it comes to price. If you are even remotely considering these GET THEM, do not waste your time considering any other products. I have even hooked these into my home mix amp and they bumped with out any problem! I have owned these for a month and I must admit next week I am getting rid of them...... Because I just ordered the HD version, ya they are that good. I will be giving these to one of my lucky friends. I will probably get the in ear version as well for lighter travel but the solo's really are the perfect size for going out and about. I really can not stress enough the superior quality of these headphones thank you so much Monster & Dr. Dre you finally brought to the table what I have been looking for in a headphone set! -
great sound, so-so fit
by lscrb121082 on March 5, 2010
Pros: Bass, size, style, overall sound quality is good.
Cons: Wearing for longer than a couple of hours can become uncomfortable.

Summary: I used these for about a month before this review to give them a chance to break in. I said that because that's important. When you first put them on and use them they are bass heavy. Not to the point where they were muddy, but the bass was overwhelming. For certain genres I'm ok with that, but for others it's a bit too much. Luckily this doesn't last. After some time the bass mellowed out. Now I think the sound quality is amazing, especially for the price. These aren't over the ear headphones, but at least for me they do seal fairly well around my ear. I think part of the reason is because they fit tight. After 3 hours I do need to give my ears a break because of the pressure. Aside from this I don't have any complaints about the headphones.

Summary: Great headphones at a solid price. I got mine off eBay brand new, couldn't be a better deal. I have not tried the Studio versions or HD versions (they aren't out yet anyway) but these are perfect. I use them for computer gaming and just to listen to music on car trips / plane rides.
Fantastic and great looking headphones. They turn heads wherever I bring them! -
