I liked it but wish it didn't require a AAAA battery.

Phone can't detect headset
by heykerriann on June 22, 2010
Pros: Cheap initial price; non-proprietary battery (AAAA, available at Radio Shack, etc.)
Cons: My phone always had trouble connecting to this device. Now it won't detect it at all. Brand new battery; have used the headset for probably less than an hour total.
Summary: Cheap price, but also cheap quality. Not worth the money.

Functional, sturdy and cheap! What more do you need?
by Iceguy47 on February 6, 2010
Pros: Functional: Sound is good. Pairing works easily. No charger. A spare AAAA (4A) alkaline, is an instant recharge!
Simple: single button control.
Cheap: Get a new one for the price of a replacement earbud/earhook for the fancy-schmancys.Cons: No volume control.
Battery saver shutdown means you have to turn it back on every ten or fifteen minutes.
Quad-A alkaline batteries can be hard to find.
Not the sexiest look in the market.Summary: I owned two $100 BT handsfrees before I bought the Jabra BT2040. They didn't hold up for even six months.

Jawbone earpieces lasted me a month or so each before the beautiful shiny cast metal broke from the gentle strain of putting them on and taking them off. Jawbone offered NO replacements, and you can't use it without one.
I lost or broke the in-ear gelbuds for my tiny beautiful Plantronics once every couple of months.
In both cases the one that fit went first, and then I was using the ill-fitting others after that.
I bought replacement sets of earbuds twice in the two years I used the Plantronics. Both times I spent over $20 for them including shipping and handling.
When I saw the BT2040 for $20 at Best Buy I decided to try it. I am still using it 15 months later. I stick it in my pocket when I'm not using it, and it has survived fine.
The single button control does off-on, hang-up, redial, and pairing mode. There is no volume control, but it's loud enough for my poor 62-year-old hearing. When I used it with a Palm Treo 650, it didn't link quickly enough to catch the first ring, and my callee's "Hello," sometimes got lost. With my brand new Palm Pre Plus it links instantly. With the Treo answering was slow after I pushed the BT2040's button, but with the Pre it's very quick.
I use it without the earhook, because I lost that in the first few weeks. It stays in my ear okay, though not great. There's a rubber wrapping on the earpiece that comes off, so you have to be careful not to lose it.
It does not have a rechargeable battery, but uses a single quad-a (AAAA) battery instead. They can be hard to find, but once you find them you know where to get them. I buy a bunch and spread spares around so I've got an instant recharge in my briefcase, car, or office. I have to clean the contacts now and then but a soft poly eraser works great. Another benefit: there's no charger laying around or to pack on trips.
I am going to buy one for each of my employees who carry cell phones, and get me a couple of spares when I do!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Was crackly and people I called couldn't hear me well
by HelloYes on July 6, 2009
Pros: price was great, I hear on it fine.
Cons: People I called complained of the sound quality, one person said he had such a hard time hearing me that I needed to switch to my phone.
Summary: Better off paying more for a headset that has better sound quality.

Also, this headset does not allow you to switch to your phone (as far as I can tell) so to switch to the phone (due to bad sound quality) I had to hang up, turn off the bluetooth, and then call the person back. Wish I could just plug in an old style headset.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

An outstanding cheap headset
by shawnppickett on May 26, 2009
Pros: CHEAP, light weight, easy to setup and use fits comfortably on ear with clip.

Summary: I'd been using pre-pay cellphones until this April, when I switched to AT&T. Having a more technologically advanced cellphone (a Sony Ericsson W350i) I wanted a bluetooth headset to use. I'd heard good things about Jabra, and found this model on Ebay for $6.00. I figured I'd try it out, I had no problems pairing it with my phone, though the included directions were a little hazy about how long to hold down the button to put it in pairing mode, but the on line directions were more detailed (including the fact that it had directions tailored to each phone type). The call quality seems to be good so far (I've had it for a day). While I'd prefer one with a rechargeable battery, I was willing to sacrifice that for the price point.
One point, considering this is supposed to be an in-ear bud design, the actual ear piece is awfully large, I a big guy at 6'2" and it won't fit in my ear (the device sort of sits on the outside of my ear canal and is held in place by the over the ear clip. If it won't sit solidly in my ear without the clip, I doubt it would in anybodies. That being said, it is perfectly acceptable using the over the ear clip and is quit comfortable that way.

Awful Buzz
by CapTinCup on May 10, 2009
Pros: Cheap, easy to use and setup. Replaceable battery could be nice in a pinch and you're not saddled with another charger.
Cons: Loud persistent buzz that never stops.
Summary: The sound quality is completely unacceptable. I know its $20, but they didn't have to make a piece of junk. I'm returning mine.

Summary: For 20 dollars, this has been everything I wanted out of a bluetooth headset. I only use it when I need it. It's not something I wear all day, so if you are looking for something that you would wear all day, this is a bad choice because it starts to hurt after a few hours. Other than that, it's great.
