The good: The Aliph Jawbone Era has a unique and attractive design, with updated features that include caller ID by name, a built-in accelerometer, and HD-quality audio.
The bad: The Aliph Jawbone Era doesn't have a dedicated volume rocker, and the way it fits the ear is not as easy and comfortable as we would like.
The bottom line: The Aliph Jawbone Era knocks it out of the park with high-end features, amazing audio quality, and innovative design.

Absolutely useless sound quality.
by devteambravo on March 5, 2013
Pros: Not really any I can think of as the device is basically a paperweight.
Cons: -Bad design - the ear hook is uncomfortable, the earbuds aren't anywhere as good as the plantronics offering.
-Sound quality is terrible to the point the device is unusable.
-Bad support.Summary: Definitely don't recommend getting one of these. Try BlueAnt or Plantronics.

Worst BT headset I've ever owned
by airman2482 on February 3, 2013
Pros: Sound and noise cancellation was good while it worked.
Cons: poor quality, lasted only 4 months (including replacement I bought), very poor customer service

Summary: I bought my Jawbone thinking it was great. It worked great for 4 months. Then it "pooped" out after a few minutes use. Replaced it at the retailer, SAME THING. Jawbone customer service is HORRIBLE. They run you through "hoops" for weeks and then in the end, its next to impossible to get them to replace/honor their warranty. I'm an airline pilot. We use Plantronics in the cockpit. Bought a Plantronics 975, an A165 and an A155 for my wife. Gone through many headsets over the years (Nokia, Motorola, 'nonamed headsets', Jabra and Jawbone). Came back to what I use in both the Airbus and the Boeing. Plantronics. JAWBONE IS HORRIBLE. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ATROCIOUS! DON"T BUY A JAWBONE!

Too expensive for the uncomfortable earpieces!
by greeneyedcrystal on December 4, 2012
Pros: Looks pretty. Did sound good, at least in the beginning.
Cons: The Era speaker started sounding like a cracked speaker 6 months after I bought it. On both my Icon and Era, people, complained they couldn't understand me sometimes. Very uncomfortable earpieces that twisted around causing the headset to fall out!

Summary: I own the Icon and the Era and I agree with many other people, the ear pieces are horrible! I have very small ear canals and even their smallest ear piece leaves my ear sore after less than 10 minutes! That's because the speaker on the headset is too big. Also, the rubber piece would twist around causing the headset to come loose and fall out! If they'd make the headset speaker a little smaller then they could make an even smaller earpiece, and than make them tighter so they don't twist loose on the speaker neck. Problem solved!

Wind and noise magnet.

Summary: I bought this thing about a year ago based on the Cnet review and Nicole's comment about better wind and noise cancellation. I guess I was fooled by "better". Inside it works fine. But outside, it's a wind and noise magnet, essentially unusable. It's as if the headset design is scooping the wind. It's much more clear for both parties to use the phone outside.
Another thing, the accelerometer is a gimick and useless. To remember how many times to shake to answer calls or to pair, and the mere effort to shake it...it's much easier and effortless to press the button.
Online reviews and advertising is all about trust. It's evident, several of us are in firm agreement on the wind and noise problem, contrary to the review. Unfortunate for me, it's $100 down the drain. -
People can gen. hear me & don't know I'm on a Bluetooth
by Turf1856 on September 16, 2012
Pros: Good audio quality for the people I'm calling.
Easy pairing.
Easy answering and hanging up.
Nice on off switch.
Very comfortable and the ear pieces are very soft.
Nice being able to hear the audio from games.Cons: Audio quality in my ear is not as good as my cell phone (sounds electronic) but can still hear fine. Not as good as other Bluetooths I've tried but the audio for people listening to me is so much better it's worth the slight trade off.
Summary: Overall I'm happy with it. I think the comments by people who say it's highly uncomfortable must not be putting it in their ear correctly because it's ...
Summary: Overall I'm happy with it. I think the comments by people who say it's highly uncomfortable must not be putting it in their ear correctly because it's VERY comfortable and soft... maybe they are using the over-ear hook, I'm not. Only thing I can fault it for is that I expect the audio quality for myself and the person I call to be cell phone quality and this isn't there yet... though based on every review I've read no one has.

Summary: Sound and Streaming: The sound quality is great and the volume is as loud as I care to make it. The media streaming (music and voice) is both useful and cool. Of course it won't replace the stereo headset for an audiophile but will do in a pinch and spoken work sounds really good.
Battery Life: I can talk 3 hours with tech support and stream NPR for 2 hours before the battery starts before a little voice in my ears says "you have about a half hour of talk time remaining".
Features and Use: The Jawbone Era is very easy to use, not at all complicated. I won't cover all the features but I would like to share a couple that I really like: 1) Having the dedicated on/off switch instead of dealing with a multifunction button. 2) An interesting thing that Jawbone has added is a short stiff bendy charge cord and matching USB wall charger. The whole thing is 5 inches long and just plug your headset into and it stands there in the socket in plain site so I don't forget it the next morning. The faint red light tells you it's charging but is not obnoxious and won't bother even the lightest sleeper. As for the guy who complained mightily about and could not understand the short cord, Dude! Use your imagination. How many 3 foot USB cords do you need in your life anyway.
Fit and Comfort: Pro and Con here. I really believe, that with a little trial and error, anyone can find a good working fit. There are many earbuds to choose from and the earloop is very well designed and comfortable. However it is so hard to find a combination that is comfortable all day long. After 2 or 3 hours my ears starts to hurt a bit from the bud. I honestly think that I will have a callus, either physically or mentally, after a full week of use. I don't believe anyone should let this stop you from purchasing the Era, but it will drop 1 star from my rating.
Summary: For several years I've used a Plantronics headset that served me well and has a very comfortable fit. I felt it was time to move into the current decade and I feel that my new Era is a more than worthy successor. -

The ERA is the last headset you will ever want to own!
by TonyP3rd on August 9, 2012
Pros: Amazing clarity for both sides of the call.
Pairs easy, long battery life.
The MyTalk app was an amazing surprise. If you attend conference calls with pass codes, you will never part with this headset/app combo. Read my summary for a description.Cons: It's not waterproof. I am buying my 3rd ERA after washing the first 2 in the laundry. Incredibly, they all still work. The sound is still crisp but the microphone intermittently loses audio quality.
Fit is poor but it's improved over the Jawbone II.Summary: I prefer the Jawbone line to all of the other headset makers that I have owned: BlueAnt, Motorola, Plantronics, and others.

I compare the experience of owning an ERA to that of a luxury German automobile. The longer you own one the more features you discover and the more you appreciate the perfection in design. The superior level of thought and engineering that went into making this device is evident in its comprehensive feature set and ease of use.
I will not list all of the features that I love about this headset. However, the additional features available when using the MyTalk app with my Android phone makes this headset a must-have for me. I attend many conference calls, usually while driving. The MyTalk app links to your calendar and announces when a meeting is starting. Then, with one touch of the button, the ERA makes the call AND enters the pass code automatically. You will no longer have to remember, write down, or fumble with your phone to enter a conference call pass code!!!
Regarding fit, I have only owned one headset that fit well out of the box (it was an older BlueAnt). Therefore, I highly recommend adding a custom ear bud regardless of which company manufactures your headset. I will not mention the name of the company where I bought mine to avoid sounding like an advertiser. However, the company will probably be among the first in the list of search results for "Custom Molded Earpieces Jawbone." The custom ear buds are a little pricey but they are worth the expense if you want to have the best comfort and performance with the ERA. The custom ear bud keeps the headset in place and useable during almost any activity - exercise, working in the garage, mowing the lawn, etc. The acoustics are not the best while riding a lawn tractor, but it does work. One drawback to the custom ear bud is that it is so comfortable that I often forget to take it off. I consider this a drawback because I believe it is poor etiquette to wear an earpiece while conversing in person. I originally bought the custom ear bud for my Jawbone II and was very pleased to find that it fit my ERA perfectly. I have enjoyed this combination for over three years.
WARNINGS
1. Once you begin to rely on the ERA's features, you will never want to use another brand.
2. You will never again be satisfied with the out-of-the-box fit of any headset once you experience the comfort and performance of a custom molded earpiece. -
TERRIBLE HEADSET HORRIBLE SUPPORT
by GRMARX on May 21, 2012
Pros: NONE I CAN RECOMMEND

Summary: Uncomfortable fit. My ERA started the "New software is being installed, your headset will restart when finished" loop within a few months of receiving it. Weeks of emails back and forth with Aliph and they still haven't replaced my ERA. I finally had to file a BBB complaint against the company which is now pending. This software loop is a known issue -- as long as I'm at it, I've owned (and still own) 2 Jawbone ICON headsets both of which died or developed problems within the first few months of use. Aliph DID replace those with remanufactured units, but those died within a few weeks. And the interesting part of it all is, I'm not a heavy talker. I seldom used my headsets and treated them carefully. Best Buy pulled the ERA from it's shelves after numerous returns. One thing to BEWARE: remanufactured Jawbone headsets turn up on eBay, don't trust them. I've never gotten a remanufactured Jawbone ANYTHING that worked properly for long. I'm done with Aliph and have ordered the Sound ID headsets instead. I'll let the BBB deal with them from here.
