The good: Inexpensive; in-line remote.
The bad: Nonadjustable neckband design isn't very comfortable.
The bottom line: The two-way Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset delivers passable performance for a low price.
The Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset's design isn't its strong suit. Although the other, more expensive gaming headsets we've tested incorporate padded, adjustable headbands, the Precision PC Gaming Headset instead has a nonadjustable neckband, such as low-cost portable headphones commonly employ. The headset's small, foam-covered drivers rest on top of your ears, encircled by larger leatherette ear pads that cup your ears and press against the side of your head, holding the unit in place. The Precision PC Gaming Headset tended to clamp against our ears and head with more pressure than we would have liked. The microphone is attached to the outside of the right earpiece. You can swivel it out of the way when it's not in use, but it's otherwise nonadjustable.
The Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset's eight-foot cord terminates in a 1/8-inch headphone plug and a 1/8-inch microphone plug suitable for connection to a computer sound card. The cord should prove long enough to connect to a floor-standing computer's rear-panel jacks if necessary. In order to connect the headset to the 1/4-inch front-panel jacks of our Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Pro, we had to use two inexpensive plug adapters that weren't included. The cord houses a basic in-line controller module with a volume control for the headphones and an on/off switch for the mic.
The Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset produces decent sound quality. When we jumped into a deathmatch round of Half-Life 2, we noticed the clear sound. Although the Precision PC Gaming Headset couldn't deliver grenade and RPG explosions with much bass impact, its treble and midrange performance were well balanced, providing detailed sound without causing ear fatigue. In the scene "The Riker Maneuver" of the Star Trek: Insurrection DVD, the headset didn't deliver as enveloping a soundstage as we've heard with better headphones; the sound just wasn't big enough to really grip us. Music sounded about as good as you'd expect it to with a comparably priced set of portable headphones.
Although the Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset's microphone performed passably, we had to crank up our Sound Blaster's mic input to capture good signal level. As a result, the microphone created noticeable hiss. Informal recording tests confirmed that the Precision PC Gaming Headset's mic didn't capture our voice with the same detail or depth as the mics on more expensive headsets, such as the Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA ($99) or the Sennheiser PC160 ($99).
Bottom line, you get what you pay for with the Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset: no-frills design and middling performance.

Better than Altec Lansing's Headsets

Summary: I've bought at least 4 Altec Lansing headsets (502), all broke within 4 months (usually the right side goes out). I took a chance on logitech and i'm impressed with the performance. I play Ghost Recon hours at a time, usually about 4. And every 30 min I would have to take off the Altec Lansing headset because my ears would hurt due to the pressure and heat. After using this Logitech headset for Ladder gaming on weekends, I have felt no ear fatigue at all and glad that there's not a heat issue
After reading these other reviews, man... wth you talkin about? you must have big heads or something. Plus, you are wearing it the wrong way if you think the back of the headset sits on your neck... it's actually designed not to touch the back of your head, but sit like it's on air.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great sound, cheap components

Summary: This is my third pair of this headset. I initially bought them acouple years ago for $50 and loved them. But months later the in-line volume adjustment button started shorting out, causing the headset to go from nice stereo sound to one side of the headset not working until the button was played with and found a happier setting.
But being happy with the feel and the sound quality, I've since bought 2 more, and each has had the EXACT same problem, and I don't really change the volume that much.
If there was a way to fix this one issue, I'd recommend these for all gamers, but they seem to last about 6-8 months before the issue gets out of hand.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Well got tired of replacing headsets and when I seen this headset last year I realized it was made for heavy gamers and decided to buy them. I am not a fan of wrap around head sets what so ever but seriously if you get tired of buying new headsets this is for you.
The Mic boom on it is as rugged as the whole headset and other then it slipping off my head from time to time it's still a solid product non the less!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Awesome Headset, not Spectacular but Awesome
by Greenhorn31 on January 12, 2007
Pros: Sound is awesome, volume control on cord spins like and ipod very nice, the cord is very thick compared to most headsets and its plenty long. The mic is out of the way and works fine.
Cons: My girlfriend says the look goofy on my head ;-/ but she still loves me. ;D

Summary: I have seen alot of reviews on here that say the mic isn't loud enough, ummmm....it's your audio card that determines the volume not the headset. I'm using the on board audio on my ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and I'm heard loud and very clear when talking in a conversaional tone while playing CSS. I like that the mic is out of the way of your mouth so you're free to drink or snack without having to move the mic everytime.
As far as the bass? it's there and sounds fine, I mean it's not like you have a subwoofer on your head but its there. I listened to some R&B with bass and I used the advanced controls to push up the bass and it was more than acceptable, especially for the 14.99 I paid for them from surplus computers.
The fit, well they're desigined so that you can flip them over either way, I found one way not to fit too well but when flipped the other way after 15 min. or so they were very comfortable. They're desigined so that it's the pads that fit against your head, not the actual ear pieces against your ears. However if you have very large ears they will be pinned under the pad. I have large ears and the pad fits around them. I beleive Logitech's intent was not to have anything mashing against your ears to create a more comfortable headset. However I beleive they would have achieved a much better head set if the pad arms swiveled to adjust the angle. Hope this helps those contimplating a purchase.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Very fragile headset.
by xanetrain on December 7, 2009
Pros: The headset was as expected, crisp on ventrilo/teamspeak. Cool design, I prefer big headsets.
Cons: This headset on each side is held together by 3 very thin pieces of plastic. If you drop your headset even once, it is very likely to fall apart.
Summary: I bought 1 of these with a warranty at Best Buy. The first one broke dropping off the desk. I said okay, headsets aren't meant to be dropped, even ...
Summary: I bought 1 of these with a warranty at Best Buy. The first one broke dropping off the desk. I said okay, headsets aren't meant to be dropped, even though you would expect some durability for a gaming headset. So I returned it and got another one. This one broke simply by me putting it on the desk too hard. Theres a flaw in the design. Each ear piece is connected by three very thin pieces of plastic that snap into place. If you're rough with headsets even midly, these little plastic pieces will break off, and there is no way to keep the ear pieces in place, they will just dangle from wires.
So if you want a durable headset, this is not the headset for you. You can buy any other headset and throw it around the room and it will hold up better than this. -
Mic too far to pic up voic
by CeeJay314 on November 1, 2009
Pros: Without the base function of the mic, it's hard to note any pluses.
Cons: The mic was either too far or not sensitive to pic up my voice without yelling or manually holding it closer to my face. Also- uncomfortable.

by Rudylirious on September 22, 2009
Pros: Sound was pretty decent.
Cons: Teamspeak friends complained I sounded like a helicopter and or they could barely hear me. I found no middle ground.

Just short of 30 bucks you get what you could expect.
by Burns26 on June 17, 2009
Pros: Inexpensive, average quality sound (so long as you avoid anything demanding a whole lot of 'umph' for the bass),The mic works just as you'd expect it to and truthfully you simply just can't complain.
Cons: Headphones rest on your ears which for those of us with small heads can feel as if it's...just barely noticeably loose. Mic is only capable of rotating and not bending closer or further from your mouth but this isn't a big deal in the larger picture.
Summary: For the price ranging somwhere between 24-30 bucks from what I've seen it's a rather appealing set of headphones with average quality sound. You truly don't get ...
Summary: For the price ranging somwhere between 24-30 bucks from what I've seen it's a rather appealing set of headphones with average quality sound. You truly don't get much bass out of these bad boys but hey if you're planning on rocking out that hard you probably shouldn't have headphones on in the first place. The mic works as well as you'd expect it to. Given this is designed for gaming it does exactly what you'd want it to do in ventrilo or similar programs.

Decent but not the best
by KentKarma on April 25, 2009
Pros: Sliding Microphone and muting the mic for times when its not needed.
Easy to wear with headphone buds (like ipod or zune buds, if you wanted to listen to music and play games)
Long cord allows the mic to travel a short distanceCons: The padding wears and cracks over time.
The cable can become loose and you'll lose audio in either ear.
Not adjustable padding or ear protectionSummary: When you first buy it, it will work like a charm and is a sound investment (no pun intended) but sadly over time it doesn't have the strength to ...
Summary: When you first buy it, it will work like a charm and is a sound investment (no pun intended) but sadly over time it doesn't have the strength to carry on. I've owned mine for a year and its already losing audio and the padding is cracking, hurting my ears. Good for casual to daily gaming, but if you plan to use this for a long long time, its best just to shell out more cash for something that'll probably last longer and be a bit more flexible.
