Great choice and highly dependable
by stascia769 on March 20, 2010
Pros: Lightweight, great sound on both sides of a call, easy to set up and use
Cons: Replacement ear hooks are rough to wear. Motorola should drop the packaging down a notch and make the backup hooks the same type and quality as the first.

Summary: This is my first bluetooth headset. I picked it for three reasons - don't have to wear it fitting in my ear, blocks background noise and small enough to be mostly hidden by my hair (sorry, this is probably a personal girl quirk). It is definitely worth it. Yes, the volume controls are small even with long, slender fingers, but it didn't take me long to get used to them. The sound quality is very good and the background noise cancellation is awesome. The biggest test for me was talking to someone with my dog barking in the background. It wasn't an issue for a change! I was looking at the H15 but I'm glad I spent the extra $20 for the hook and background noise cancellation.
The one thing I'm not thrilled with is the "replacement" hooks. They are completely different from the one that's installed. The quality is much lower. I have tried to locate the hook to order more but can't find it. Even Motorola's site doesn't seem to have it. if anyone knows where to find these, let me know!
My battery life has been great. Recharge time is short and painless. Easily pairs and connects.
I'm using this device with a Samsung Moment and highly recommend the combination.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great bluetooth, but lowest volume setting TOO LOUD
by youngdo on February 18, 2010
Pros: Clear sound, sending and receiving.
Physically comfortable, easy to wear for long conference calls.
Reversible ear hook for securely fitting it to either ear, easy to switch.
Compact design for easy carrying, stowing.Cons: Lowest volume setting is TOO LOUD in quiet environments (Motorola standard)
Tiny controls require nimble and slender fingers to manage easily.Summary: I use the Motorola H17 flip headset every day and for almost all my calling. I switched to this model three months ago after a failure of a Motorola H15 ...
Summary: I use the Motorola H17 flip headset every day and for almost all my calling. I switched to this model three months ago after a failure of a Motorola H15 I was trying out. Though similar to the H15 flip, the H17 is a big improvement over its predecessor. I use the H17 while walking, while driving, while in the office, for personal and business calls, including multi-hour conferences.
Physical convenience:
As with the H15, I like the ease of switching the H17 on or off with the flip. I like the way it folds into a compact little mass for easy stowing and transport when not in use.
The H17 is much smaller and lighter. I often found my ear complaining from the weight of is predecessor after only short (less-than-30-minute) calls, but the H17 fits so comfortably and sits so lightly, I often forget I have it on.
Although some have noted that controls are small and do not have much "travel", and so may be difficult to operate, I have found them quite satisfactory, as my fingers are slim and nimble.
Call quality:
Calls come through quite clearly, with little degradation compared to using my handset.
My voice is clear to my interlocuter in all conditions, and much improved over handset calls when there is background noise.
I do have one complaint: In quiet environments, the lowest volume setting is TOO LOUD for me. For example, when I listen to voice mail in the library, people around me look up and tell me they can hear the messages I am receiving. After sending me a replacement which has the same TOO LOUD volume properties, Motorola support tells me that all their headsets have the same standard minimum and maximum volumes. Too bad. Otherwise I could use the H17 for all my calling.
As it stands, I am very happy with the H17 for noisy environments, but for operating my phone in quiet areas, I have to hang the H17 off my ear or turn it off and use the handset.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good sound, doesn't stick in ear, comfortable
by perry6465 on February 5, 2010
Pros: I picked this headset because it doesn't stick in your ear canal. Very small, lightweight and comfortable. Sound is good on both sides, no complaints.
Cons: Because it lays on your ear instead of sticking in it's not a real tight fit which may bother some people. It can "flop" a little at times but doesn't shift or fall off.
Summary: I have tried multiple headsets and this is by far my favorite.

Small size, fair sound quality, decent design.
by Buddhabless on January 21, 2010
Pros: Small, light
Cons: PACKAGING! They could make 3 of these with all the material used! Sound quality isn't great and it's slightly overpriced.

Good sound on my end, but poor on the other end.
by wmsy on January 1, 2010
Pros: Clear sound on my end of call. Very lightweight, comfortable, easy to use.
Cons: The people I called complained about the sound cutting out, echoing, and that my voice went in & out -- even when in a quiet room.
Summary: Loved most everything about the H17, but too many complaints from my callers about the poor sound quality. Motorola support said it shouldn't have those problems and I should ...
Summary: Loved most everything about the H17, but too many complaints from my callers about the poor sound quality. Motorola support said it shouldn't have those problems and I should exchange it at the Sprint store. However, I was only eligible for one exchange, so I bought the Plantronics 975 instead. My callers said the sound quality on the Plantronics is dramatically better and very clear.

False Low Battery Warnings
by wistern on July 25, 2011
Pros: 1234567890
Cons: Generates a false low battery warning at random times when the battery level is still high. Beeps in your ear to warn you of low battery and makes conversation difficult. Turn it off then back on and it suddenly realizes that the battery is NOT low after
Summary: If you browse the Motorola forums you will find that the false low battery warning is a known condition to users, but it appears Motorola is pretending it does not ...

Summary: this is the second one i have purchased and will do so again. i have owned several ear pieces in the past and this by far is the best one i have had. i have used it on a full charge and after the 15 minute charge. the battery life is excellent and paired effortlessly to both my cell phones. i have had no issues with static and usually have to turn it down due to how loud the person on the other end comes through. it easily switches to either ear.

Enjoy the simplicity but had 2 with Microphone static
by tctweaker on April 28, 2011
Pros: Simple, easy, light - great sound quality.
Cons: Microphone generated static causing sound breakups on both H17 models I have had. I will not try a 3rd.
