Motorola H680 wireless bluetooth headset (Midnight Black) price range: $29.99 - $54.99

The good: The Motorola H680 is small, lightweight, and has a stylish design. It comes with a portable carrying case for more battery life.
The bad: The Motorola H680's sound quality is a little patchy at times, and we wished the fit were a bit more secure.
The bottom line: Despite a few quibbles in performance, the Motorola H680 is an affordable yet stylish Bluetooth headset with a long battery life.
Motorola has usually had a healthy cell phone accessory lineup to complement its cell phones, especially with Bluetooth headsets like the Motorola H9 Miniblue and the Motorola H700. Recently, Motorola has released yet another tiny Bluetooth headset, dubbed the Motorola H680. Though not quite as small as the Miniblue, it's still a very petite headset, and it boasts style and elegance, complete with a plastic-covered charging cradle that doubles as a case. The Motorola H680 is available for $89.99.
The Motorola H680 is definitely among one of the more stylish Bluetooth headsets we've seen. Clad in vacuum metal and a black-gloss finish, the H680 only weighs 0.42 ounce, and measures 1.61 inches by 0.7 inch by 0.47 inch in a slightly narrow rectangular design. On the front is a large multifunction button that stands out from the surface of the headset, making it easy to press by feel. On the right spine are the nice-and-big volume controls, while a power switch is on top of the headset. We like the dedicated power switch a lot, as it is much easier to turn on and off the device.
On the back of the headset are a simple in-ear rubber earpiece and a plastic flexible ear hook. The earpiece is slightly tapered to fit more securely in the ear, and the ear hook can be adjusted to fit either ear. We thought the tapered rubber earpiece felt a little awkward to place in the ear, but it was overall a decent fit. That said, we would've liked it to feel a bit more secure, perhaps with a smaller-size earpiece.
The Motorola H680 comes with a portable charging cradle with a plastic cover. The headset can be kept in the cradle to prolong its battery life as well.
We tested the Motorola H680 Bluetooth headset with the RIM BlackBerry Pearl. We were able to pair the headset without any problem, as the headset went into pairing mode immediately after we powered it on. Call quality was a little patchy. We sometimes found ourselves repeating things to callers, because of some off and on static and background noise. We heard our callers' just fine in most situations, except in windier environments. We wouldn't say the sound quality was bad, but it could stand some improvement.
Features of the Motorola H680 are fairly standard. You have the typical answering, receiving, and ending calls, call mute, voice-dial support, and the ability to transfer calls from the phone to the headset and vice versa.
The Motorola H680 has a rated talk time of 8 hours and a rated standby time of 8 days.

Does not work!

Summary: I just bought this bluetooth heaset for use with my LG Dare. I like the design and I can hear just fine on it. However, the person on the other end can't hear me. They say it's very jumbled and they cannot understand a word I'm saying. Can't hold a conversation for more than 30 seconds. I'm returning it to Wal Mart today and looking for a better one.

No worries with this one
by tinman50 on December 23, 2008
Pros: Old guy, doesn't hear well, and I can hear fine with this one. Once I read the instructions and followed them pairing was instant.
Cons: Charger could be a bit smaller. Fit is a bit odd at first but it feels ok now.
Summary: My third try and this one is the one. Easy to use for a non-tech guy. Probably have to get one for my wife now.

solid headset, flaws managable
by keithrawr on November 8, 2008
Pros: slim, light, and relatively comfortable in the ear. nice and loud in the ear. good sound quality on both ends. looks cool and is discrete at the same time. easy to pair with devices. buttons on set are easy to find by touch.
Cons: cant be charged without magnetic charging dock, no in-ear canal adapter can make headset feel loose in the ear. range on this thing is mediocre at best.

Summary: good solid headset if you primarily use it in the car or with the phone in your pocket. people on the other line have no complaints and say they cant tell a difference between headset and phone, experience no echoing effect as is pretty common in lower end headsets. voice is very clear out of the speaker. pairing the device is very easy right out of the box, but can be difficult if using on multiple devices. battery life is great, i'm a heavy user and rarely charge it.
but, the sound gets awfully scratchy if you go more than a few feet away from the device, which is fine for cell phone use, but kind of stinks if youre listening to music. barely works through barriers like walls. buttons very easy to find for volume adjustment or answering a call. 3.5 out of 5, very solid device for the price.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

I'm So Disappointed!!!!!!!!
by estiscnet on August 22, 2008
Pros: The only pro is the look and size. The one I bought came in a box "Communication Set for Her." It is all silver and has a delicate curlicue design with a little heart at the end. It'is so small it looks like a clip on earring. It LOOKED perfect!
Cons: Cons: Callers can not hear me but I can hear them; voice activation works in about 1 in 50 trys. There is absolutely no noise reduction and the caller's voice cuts in and out.
Summary: The look and size are great. But it doesn't work. I paid $80 at Radio Shack and I'm taking it back tomorrow.

PERCFECT 10* -Other Reviews Inaccurate- This Thing is a perfect 10*

Summary: ok guys, i know what your thinking. what about the 2/10 reviews? not sure what the problem is with these users, maybe they are used to other hardware or its too small for them.
This is my first headset, i was almost swayed from buying this one because of the reviews but despite the slander, still bought it and am completely satisfied. Moto never dissapoints and this unit ROCKS* perfect comfortable fit, paired up in 1 minute, completely charged in 1.5 hrs, and hasnt let me down yet. its TINY and most people ask if its new because they see people with a wallet sized contraption strapped to their head. i simply reply "no, theres actually a newer one" (H12)
so if your looking at a MOTO H680, look no further, this is the headset for you. if you think its too small, then its not your market, simple enough. I always knocked headsets thinking they are ancilliary and not neccessary, however, since the new law about driving and cell phone goes into effect july 1 2008, im forced to get one. IM SORRY I DIDNT GET ONE SOONER! and for $30 on ebay, you cant go wrong.
Regards

Lightweight, easy to use, pairs easily
by Gearjoe on February 3, 2011
Pros: Paired easily, fits well in ear, lightweight, clear audio, large vol buttons, on/off switch
Cons: Cradle vs mini USB port. Would rather have a USB charger for car. Range from cell not very good.

Summary: I overall like the H680. I guess it will take some getting used to having to use a cradle. I think Motorola could have done better by having a direct connect to a standard mini USB cord. That way one can recharge in the car. So this is a major disadvantage for someone who is on the go all the time. I can't go 15 ft away from my cell phone when in the house before it gets static. This is my 3rd Motorola bluetooth. As far as size, I like it the best, but some of my prior sets had better range.

What Phones Work This?
by Digital_jammer on September 25, 2010
Pros: None, it will not work with my Motorola flip cell. $30.00 I want back.
Cons: Packaging claims it is compatible and tested with over 200 cell phones. This gives customers the false assumption it will work with cell phones that are not compatible with it like mine!

Summary: Not everybody can keep up with all of the techno hype. I had been using my cell phone with one of the cheap wired Bluetooth copy-cats but discovered it needed sound amplification. So I see this thing on display at Big Lots and id claims it is compatible with over 200 phones, and I figure my fairly new same brand of flip top cell would likely work with it, but the description on the package is unclear. If one already is aware enough to know what to avoid then great. But I now have to return this thing because my cell phone does not have the setting that searches for a wireless headset. I feel really ignorant, but for the price I payed for my flip top cell I and the fact the same company made both products I truly fail to understand why this feature is not covered by my cell phone. Motorola, if you are reading this, please consider marking very clearly on your packages for these devices exactly what a customer must first own in order to use this thing. I can not be alone out here with the assumption this thing will just automatically work with my $ 80 flip phone also made by Motorola. Nobody told me otherwise, and I feel really dumb right now and I am more or less a techo-geek, I doubt I am alone out here buying this thing that I can not use!

I did not order this bluetooth. Motorola is screwed-up.
by Hermanangelo on September 5, 2009
Pros: Now that I finally have a complete unit due to Motorola's incompetence, I can finally use it.
Cons: Motorola cannot complete an order correctly. I had to order 4 blueteeth to get one complete unit with charger.
Summary: I like the look and feel of this unit. I will try it today. I have been trying to get a bluetooth from Motorola for 3 weeks. They screwed up ...

Light, comfortable, good sound and talk/standby time.
by kht2002 on June 26, 2009
Pros: Light and comfortable. Easy to use. Good sound quality. Long talk and standby time.
Cons: Carrying case/charger bulky, needs more volume (needs to be on max volume all the time).

Updated on Jun 30, 2009Summary: A good unit but maybe not the one if you have a noisy environment.
I am noticing that the headset doesn't recognize voice commands very well when using dial by name in Windows Mobile 6...even in relatively quiet car, has problems. Also, lack of volume in the earpiece is a problem.
