Motorola Pure H15 Bluetooth headset price range: $35.00 - $69.99

The good: The Motorola Pure H15 has a stunning design, a unique flip boom mic, and a comfortable fit. As for audio quality, it does cancel out background noise, though see below for what we didn't like.
The bad: The voice quality on the Motorola Pure H15 sounds robotic and unnatural, and we were sometimes plagued with crackly static.
The bottom line: The Motorola Pure H15 is an attractive and comfortable headset, but the audio quality could be improved.
A year ago, Motorola released the Motorola H12 Bluetooth headset, which promised superior audio quality, thanks to Motorola's patented CrystalTalk technology. While we appreciate the H12's design, we were less than impressed by the call quality. Now Motorola has released the Motorola Pure H15, which is also a CrystalTalk headset and offers an improvement over the H12. Also dubbed the Adonis, the H15 is quite the fashion statement, and we rather like the flip boom mic. Again, though, we don't think the sound quality is quite up to par with its promises. The Motorola Pure H15 Bluetooth headset is available for $129 retail.
Even though the H15 is a successor to the H12, it has a totally different design. It has a rounder, flatter shape, a bit like a roundish pebble. Measuring 1.54 inches long by 0.94 inch wide by 0.47 inch thick, the H15 is compact and lightweight. On the front is a large circular Call button with the Motorola logo underneath it. On the right spine is a silver volume rocker with a LED indicator light embedded in the middle. Though we don't mind this arrangement, we admit we didn't notice the light at first because LED indicator lights are usually placed on the front of Bluetooth headsets. As for the button and the rocker, they are not at all stiff. They are easy to press even when worn on the ear. The charger jack is on the top of the headset.
If you're wondering how to turn the H15 on, look at the back of the headset. There you'll see a U-shape boom mic folded close. Just flip the boom mic open, and the headset will automatically power on. Though we've been skeptical of extendable boom mics in the past, we do like it in this case because it makes it really easy to power the headset on and off. If you power it on for the first time, the headset goes automatically into pairing mode; if you power it on after you've paired it, it will automatically connect to the last paired cell phone.
Also on the back of the headset is a small earpiece clad in rubber, plus a very thin and flexible plastic ear hook. The ear hook can be fitted for either ear and is thin enough that it'll fit around eyeglasses. The earpiece sits gently inside the ear, and we found it fit quite comfortably. We don't think the ear hook is optional; the ear hook is required for security and stability.
Features of the H15 include the typical answering, receiving, and ending calls, last number redial, call mute, and the ability to transfer calls from the headset to the phone and vice versa. Another feature is that the H15 supports multidevice pairing and can be connected to two devices simultaneously. There's also a battery status indicator; just press both the volume buttons and the color of the indicator light will show you how much battery life is left (red is less than 50 percent charge, yellow is more than that, and green is full).
We tested the Motorola Pure H15 Bluetooth headset with the Apple iPhone 3G. As we mentioned, the H15 automatically goes into pairing mode when it's first powered on, so the pairing process went quite smoothly. We were suitably impressed that the Motorola Pure H15 delivered on its promise of canceling out background noise. We heard our callers just fine, and they, too, said they could hardly tell that we were walking along a busy sidewalk. The H15 also promises automatic volume adjustment depending on the environment, which we also found to be quite true. The volume decreased once we entered a quieter office building.
However, that doesn't mean the audio quality was good. Though we heard our callers loud and clear, they had difficulty hearing us. According to them, there was quite a bit of crackling at times, both when we were outside and when we were inside a moving automobile. The crackling seems to come and go, though, and they said our voice sounded machine-like and unnatural. We called ourselves and left a voice mail and we have to agree with their assessment. Call quality did improve when we were making calls inside a quiet environment. Also, even though there were a few auditory problems, callers could still hear what we were saying, so it wasn't too bad. Overall, call quality seemed patchy and dependent on the environment, which we found disappointing.
The Motorola Pure H15 comes with a desktop stand charger as well as a regular AC charger.

Great Headset. I LOVE voice dialing on 2 phones

Pros: *Work voice dialing on 2 different phones
* Noise canceling is very good, almost Jawbone like
* On off boom switch awesome
* Indicator light tells you which phone you are operating.Cons: *No carry case or lanyard

Summary: I have owner or used Logitech, both Jawbones, Plantronics 320, 925, and many more. This is the best to date if you need to operate 2 phones. I have the BB storm (work) and BB Pearl (personal). This headset pairs to both and will operate both devices voice dialing. Yes you heard me correct activated dialing on both phones not just the primary device. AWESOME. I never need to pull out my phone to make or answer calls. I travel several times a month and the power switch has helped along with using the same micro-usb charger as the storm. I can carry just 2 cables. One for the pearl with also powers my Mio GPS and one for the Storm and H15. At $75 from Verizon you will not find a better headset.

Great Bluetooth as long as your phone setup is correct!
by MeSasquatch on January 24, 2009
Pros: Excellent noise cancellation, great speech and listening clarity both ways. Cool desk stand/charger, comfortable. Have to see my full review below (expand) to see all of what I wrote because of text limitations here.
Cons: Had to heat the ear hook and bend to better shape to fit nicely-no big deal. Have an LG env2 and the H15 sounds great to others once I realized to set "Voice Clarity" OFF and "Voice Privacy" OFF. Basically, the H15 competes with the LG built in stuff

Summary: Pairs to two devices. Has excellent noise cancellation and sound clarity. Here's a great test for noise reduction and this is what I did. The day I got the H15, after it was fully charged in the cool desk stand, after 9:00pm on free airtime with Verizon, I drove around with the car stereo on at a fairly loud volume, car was cold so heater fan was on at 75%, with the drivers window open about 6 inches, anywhere from stopped at a red light to 50 MPH. I called 800-GOOG-411 which I use ALL the time. If you've ever used Google for looking up numbers and connecting you know what I mean when I say that although a GREAT service, if there is background noise it will say "starting over" or "just say the city and state" or whatever. Goog 411 says quite a lot actually. Here's what I experienced: I was looking up obscure places with strange sounding names: like Ski-N-See Sandy Utah, Alta Ski Area Salt Lake City Utah (pronounced "all-ta"), Dem Bones Louisville Kentucky (BBQ restaurant), etc... Even with the all of the background noise, it got them all right the first time. The H15 is also full duplex so you can interrupt (true two-way communication). I would say "go back", "start over", "details", "connect", etc... while the Google voice was speaking and it would go straight to that command. I've had 3 other Bluetooth headsets and have never been able to interrupt the voice without waiting for a pause in the speakers voice. Also, with my previous BT headset, my wife HATED when I used Google because she had to roll her window up, turn the radio off, turn the heater off and be quiet (All not easy to ask for in the Rockies in the winter with wife in car!!!) she reads this, I'm a dead man LOL. That proves the noise reduction works very well. On to the sound quality. Hearing the caller sounds more natural and has a deeper sound to it. More base basically. My Mom and Dad like to hear people like they were on landlines. My Mom and I talked today for 4 hours before the battery went dead on the H15. For most of the conversation she didn't even know I was on the H15 Bluetooth. I have not heard any complaints from anyone about my voice from anyone once I set my phone as I listed in Cons section. Make sure whatever phone you have to turn off any noise cancellation it might have as it will compete with the H15 and make your voice sound "robotic" like some people have written in their reviews. I also have a Motorola i860 Nextel phone for work and the H15 pairs to both phones perfectly and sounds great on both. I left myself a voicemail from my Nextel to my Verizon and it sounds like I am on a land-line phone.

Terrible sound quality on both ends of calls
by shultquist on December 21, 2008
Pros: None at all
Cons: Callers could not hear me and I could not hear them. The boom was a pain. The ear tips didn't fit and were very hard. The noise canceling didn't.

This after using a Jawbone (first gen) for a while. Truly terrible.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Compared to other headsets I've used, this one wins hands down. The boom mic / on-off switch is very convenient and works perfectly. I can hear the other caller well and haven't had any complaints from the other end. The build quality and functionality are excellent. It is very comfortable to wear and I think it is as good looking as any headset out there. I would recommend this headset to all.

by persona_tech on March 5, 2009
Pros: Small. Excellent Noise Cancellation. Sexy Styling. Excellent Sound both incoming and outgoing
Cons: Wish it came with a USB cable and also a carring case like the H12 did

Best bluetooth I've used to date
by h2dav on January 11, 2009
Pros: Great volume, easy fit, great noise cancellation, and works with all phone functions like call waiting, mute and voice dialing. It also has multiple ear gels for a comfortable fit.
Cons: Some may not like in ear design of earpieces. Shorter working distance than some of my past Motorola products.

Summary: Working in the mobile phone industry I've had the opportunity to weigh the differences between multiple blue tooth earpieces. I have always enjoyed the sound quality and range of the Motorola products. I currently on the Jawbone 2, H15 and a S9 stereo blue tooth. My wife uses the older H12. The noise cancellation properties of the Pure headsets is remarkable. I have always had trouble positioning the Jawbone correctly to get the best noise cancellation opportunity there is no such problem with my H15. I also find the ear hook on the Jawbone very uncomfortable I'm never able to get a comfortable fit. The Motorola also allows me to use my voice dialing and other voice functions of my HTC Touch Diamond. In all I will always recommend the Motorola over the Jawbone to my customers.

Good noise cancellation but won't stay on my ear.
by jackyscooter on December 15, 2008
Pros: Easy to pair with my phone, small size and my husband likes the clarity when I call him.
Cons: Won't stay on my ear with the flimsy plastic hook that is provided. Comes off in a minute. I have to wear one of the ear buds that fits into my ear to help keep it on.

Summary: I dislike the product because I can't keep it on my ear. I have called Motorola and they are suppose to be sending me another flimsy plastic ear hook. If it had a ear hook like my Jawbone, I think it would be the best of 2 headsets. I like the clarity that I receive through the headset as so does my husband when I use it to call him. Noise cancellation is excellent. You really have to keep an eye on where you put it because it is so small. It would be easy to lose/misplace. I'm hoping the new earpiece will make a difference. I'd hate to be out $129.00 for a headset that I'm just not happy with.

Terrible Volume For The Pricey H15
by IFLYMAUI on November 16, 2008
Pros: Fit, weight, feel are excellent. Ultra user friendly.
Cons: Of all the headsets I've ever owned, Motorola's H15 has the worst volume control ever. Maximum still sounds like it is set to its lowest setting.
Summary: BueAnt V1 is best so far. Avoid the Motorola H15.

Decent headset with Volume issues

I bought this head set using Motorola's employee discount, otherwise this would be too expensive to buy. This unit is very easy to use and very light. The ear piece was a little painful, but snug. I will probably get use to it over time. There are several different sizes of earpice that can be used, and a ring that holds the headset to the ear. I am suprised with how comfortable the ring is around my ear, considering that the ring is very thin. The flip out boom that powers the unit on and off, as well as the table top base is a nice touch.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
