The good: The Nokia BH-800 is a cute and compact headset with a simple yet elegant design. It also feels comfortable and has great sound quality.
The bad: The Nokia BH-800's power button is tiny, and the volume rocker is tricky to control when the headset is in the ear.
The bottom line: The Nokia BH-800 is one of the best headsets we've seen to date, with a great design, a comfortable fit, and good sound quality.
The Nokia BH-800 is a tiny little headset that looks like a piece of candy, measuring only 1.6 by 0.7 by 0.35 inches and weighing an airy 0.3 ounce. Because it's so tiny, it's inconspicuous when worn, a far cry from most other Bluetooth headsets, such as the Jabra BT500, for example. We liked the simple rectangular design with its stylish minimalism. The BH-800 has a square multifunction button on the front, the power button on top, the volume rocker on the left spine, and the charger jack on the right. While the multifunction button was easy enough to press, we thought the power button was a little small, especially for larger hands. We also found the volume rocker a little difficult to maneuver while the headset is worn on the ear.
On the back of the device is the earpiece and a slot for an optional ear loop. The earpiece fit snugly in our ear, and though we didn't need the ear loop, we liked having it for added security. The ear loop is changeable to accommodate both right and left ears. The BH-800 also comes with a metal neck strap, which you can hook the headset on so that it almost looks like a fashion accessory. But as handy as it sounds, the headset does not fit securely on the neck strap, and you may lose it if you wear it this way.
We tested the Nokia BH-800 with the Sidekick 3 and the LG VX8100 and were able to pair the headset with the phones without any problems. Call quality was great on both ends, though callers did report that we sounded a little faded when in noisier environments. You can answer and end calls, reject calls, redial, switch calls between the headset and the phone, and voice dial, all with the BH-800. The Nokia BH-800 has a rated talk time of six hours and a rated standby time of seven days.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY BLUETOOTH!
by mgibboni on August 9, 2006

Summary: Ok - so here goes. This may be a long read, but I consider myself the Prince of Bluetooth headsets, so I hope it helps someone make a smart buying decision.
First off, go buy this headset RIGHT NOW!
I have used the following headsets in the past two years with a Nokia phone, LG phone, and a Blackberry:
Motorola H300: Zero volume and flopped around on my ear.
Plantronics Voyager 510: A bit large w/ tiny behind the ear volume control.
Plantronics Explorer 320: Hurt my inner ear.
Plantronics Discovery 640: A decent headset, but cheaply made for the price and recently broke on me.
Jabra BT250: Large, moved out of place everytime I turned my head.
Jabra BT800: HUGE, HEAVY - didn't perform like the specs say it should.
Jabra JX10: Not bad, but cheap parts for $179.00 - also too much static.
Blueant X3 Micro: Horrible echo on other end.
Thank goodness Best Buy has a return policy, cause I sent 'em all back to the rack !(except Discovery 640)
As you can tell, I am VERY picky and demand performance - I have been on a QUEST to find the BEST BT Headset out there and I think I found my pot of gold.
The Nokia BH800 is unreal. Insanly small. It does not feel anywhere as cheap as the JX10. Earbud fits PERFECTLY and DOES NOT hurt my ear. Earbuds have been hurting my ear since the iPod headphones, but to my surprise, this headset is comfortable to wear all day long - no discomfort at all. I like to wear it without the included ear hook, since I always rock sunglasses in the car. I'm not saying I would go jogging with it in, but it stays put throughout my day. It is small, so "loss-factor" comes into play, but if you use the included neck strap (the correct way per the manual), it's going nowhere. Charging is easy, pairing is a cinch (currently paired to my LG VX 8300), and voice clarity is awesome on BOTH ENDS. It doesn't go the full "30 feet", but no BT out there does. It also comes with a carrying pouch to keep the headset and carry strap in. The only thing I would have liked to see in this price range is a dock-style cradle like the JX10, but the $180 I paid is well worth it for a BT this good. I wonder how much $$ I have dropped in gas back and forth to Best Buy???
So is $180 worth it for a BT this good? ...I would have paid $200.
I hope this helps someone out there make a good decision! God bless!54 out of 54 users found this user opinion helpful.

Well my friends the day has come, Nokia has gotten it right. No more buying the motorola garbage, pick up one of these featherweight champs and its a wrap. I've had this lil bluetooth for a week, and half the time i forget the cricket is in my ear its so dog gone light.. pick one up.

All i have to say is just to buy and you will see the best. learn from my mistakes. the best thing about this is that you do not have to wear it around your ear with the hook attachment. its so light that it doesnt have a problem of falling out, and there is no jeel pieces for your ear that makes you get a headach after a while

Summary: I have used several other high-end BT headsets, and this unit is by far the best. CNET is mistaken in their review that the neckchain does not hold the headset securely (Note to the reviewer, Ms. Lee: You have to slide the unit down into the holder, closer to where the prongs come together, between the rubber portion of the handle). In fact, not only does it hold the unit securely, but the innovative chain attachment is incredibly secure, as well. When worn this way it looks like a fine piece of jewelry. Enough said about that. This unit is not only stylish, but also it's incredibly discreet. No big blue lights flashing out the ear. Only a tiny blue led coming from behind the unit. The sound quality is great with both voice and mono MP3 ringtones. I modded the earpiece portion with a Jabra clear gel insert for greater comfort and security. Talk and standby times are sufficient, and it charges quickly. Its range was also better then the other units that I've used. Can be worn in the ear for hours without discomfort. Highly recommended!!!!
Updated
If anyone has one of these units and feels that it does not fit them perfectly, here is an easy and inexpensive modification that works amazingly well. It only costs about 8 bucks to do and takes only a couple of minutes. The Jabra gel is the Jabra EarGels - Clear (43-2009), not the mini gel. You can buy them at Radio Shack and not too many other places. There are 3 different sizes in the package and for either ear. All you need to do is remove the rubber/silicone from the BH-800 and put the Jabra over the ear piece. It fits the ear piece perfectly and securely and looks like it was designed that way. I called Nokia and informed them of this mod, but I don't believe they are going to market it, so I wanted to let everyone know that a "perfect fit" is not only possible, but likely probable. The other benefit is, it literally boosts the sound clarity and volume by channeling the sound to the ear canal more directly.
As for the BH-800 playing music ringtones, this unit plays any format (MP3, wav, midi)music ringtones, so long as the ring tone on your cell has the correct properties to be played on Bluetooth headsets. Also, it works well with text-to-speech phones and voice commands.
Hope this helps.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best Headset I Ever Bought

The Nokia BH-800 was the ...Summary: Having lost my trusty Motorola Bluetooth headset (which is large and bulky in comparison to today?s models), I was desperate to find a replacement.
The Nokia BH-800 was the only bluetooth headset that didn't look like a toy or gadget. Although Radio Shack's price of $179 was a bit intimidating. What sold me was when I held the headset in the palm of my hand. It is the lightest bluetooth headset ever! In fact, you can't even feel weight when you hold it, its like your holding nothing at all.
The performance was superior to the $100 Motorola that it replaced. It is easier to hear because of the in-ear head piece and it doesn?t swing off my ear when I rotate my head. In addition, the stand-by and talk time seemed equal to that of my bulky Motorola.
If you're like me and you like to maintain a corporate style, go for the black/silver model. It looks so much better than the toyish, gadgety Motorola I used to sport on my ear (and remove whenever I was in public because I was ashamed of it). Instead, the Nokia looks sleek and stylish. When worn on the around neck lanyard it looks like a piece of jewelry and actually accents my suit.
Although it adds more weight, the ear loop is mandatory as the headset tends to fall out easily without the loop to support it.Updated
Sorry to say that I must now update my review of this product. A couple of days after writing this review my headset stopped working. Apparently, the little button wouldn?t turn it on anymore. Luckily the unit was so new RadioShack agreed to replace it, lets see how long this one lasts.
However, the lanyard recently broke from wear and tear (apparently the upper part of the lanyard is made of metal but the part that must flex to accommodate the headset is plastic... what a poor design). After several frustrating hours with Nokia, I have to say that I can no longer recommend this product. It just isn't reliable enough and Nokia doesn't stand behind it.
In a nutshell, Nokia will neither replace, nor let you buy the lanyard. Futhermore, if you want to escalate your issue, you have to take it to Finland.
Now I remember why I stopped buying Nokia phones. I hoped they would have been a better company when it came to accessories (especially pricy $200 headsets with cheat plastic lanyards).
I I had the option to change my user rating it would be a "1"Updated

One size does not fit all

Pros: Wonderful sound quality, very tiny and light weight, easy to use features

Summary: I was only able to use this device if I kept my hand pressing it in my ear as the ear bud is so large that it would not fit snuggly. Nor did the loop thing help too much, then it was back to the floppy fit of my old one which I hated.
It did not fit in my girlfriend's ear either, so we tried it on a couple of big guys and they said it was too big as well.
What's up with that? Can't they make an earbud small enough to fit almost anyone and then make covers for it to adjust the size up for larger ears?
I had to return it right away as it was unusable to me this way.
On the other hand, had it fit, I would have been very happy with it in all other respects. It would also have been easier to swallow the too high price. I never had any problem with it falling off the neck chain and found that fit very snug and secure. The sound quality was phenomanal on both ends, the multi-function button was easy to use, the user guide is well written. The little indicator lights are tiny which is fine with me as I don't need the world to see my ear flashing blue.

I purchased this head set after reading rave reviews about it on this web site. I wanted it to be the answer to my Bluetooth woes. My expectations were very high. After several months of use, some were meet, some key ones were not.
What I did like:
The style of the head set, in my opinion is the best on the market. This is coming from someone who prefers discreet styling over flash. It is pretty small and sleek. Also, I was very happy to discover that finally I can wear a Bluetooth head set without looking like a Kmart Blue Light Special( sorry if you're too young to get that). The light is very small and nicely placed on the back of the head set. I purchased the smoke/charcoal colored head set, which has a nice mat finish with a silver ear loop. I'm guessing this color stands out less than the white. The build quality is great -- nothing cheap and plastic about it. When driving with an open window or walking outside, the background noise is very minimal...so I'm told by the person on the other end. That is a big plus.
What I didn't like:
I've read reviews contrary, but after wearing this head set awhile, I find it to be a bit uncomfortable. Not unbearable, but enough to keep me from giving it a higher rating. Also, it comes with an unremovable ear bud -- so, it's one size fits all. The ability to customize the fit or a softer ear bud would've been nicer. My last negative would be the low volume when turned all the way up. I have difficulty hearing in a mall and even a busy grocery store. Maybe it's my hearing, but my old head set did not have this issue. Considering being able to hear is half the of the function of this device, this dipped my rating quite a bit.
Conclusion:
The style and build quality are excellent, and the noise cancellation is very good. The low top volume and comfort issues are not extreme, but they are ones to seriously consider, especially considering the top price of this head set. When I bought mine, it was retailing for $170! I paid $110 online, which is still very pricey.Updated
No, this wasn't on purpose, but a pure accident. Amazingly, the BH-800 survived a full cycle of an industrial strength washing machine. I think this is worthy of a full rating point increase from my original review, which would make me giving it an 8. That says a lot about the build quality of this set. At first I thought the sound quality in the ear piece was affected, but after further use, I think all is ok. Very impressive!4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Like some of the other reviewers, I have gone through a lot headsets. This one fits my ear perfectly and, with or without the loop, is so light I hardly know it is there. The last two headsets I've used (one wireless, one wired) I had to keep the volume all the way up on my phone and on the headset to be able to hear clearly. This one, the volume is at half on both and I don't miss a thing.
The only drawback is that stupid Nokia ringtone in my ear when the phone rings. I work hard to customize my phone (different tones for different groups of callers, etc...) and I seem to be stuck with their ringtone - alas.
If it weren't for the ringtone, I'd give this headset a 10. I love it.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is my first Bluetooth headset, and I'm glad I waited for this. I considered other Bluetooth headsets in the past, but none perform as well, not to mention are as cool and inobtrusive as this one. The Nokia BH 800 has the best design. It fits snugly right in my ear without the need for the metal ear loop, but because of its size and because I work in busy, crowded Midtown Manhattan, I like to keep the earloop on to quell my paranoia of losing it. It's so comfortable that I forget that I have it on. Audio quality is superb. I don't find the volume button to be especially tricky at all. The lanyard that comes with it is a bit dorky, but very necessary when you don't want to keep it in your ear. It's so small, people will really think you're talking to yourself.
