Plantronics Voyager PRO+ Bluetooth Headset price range: $75.65
- Reviewed by: Nicole Lee
- Reviewed on: 10/13/2010
The good: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus has a very comfortable fit, with a dedicated power switch, a volume rocker, and a swiveling boom mic. It has multipoint, A2DP streaming, voice alerts, a battery meter when paired with an iPhone, and access to Plantronics Vocalyst, an automated phone service that lets you send e-mail, texts, and even tweets with just your voice. Audio quality and wind noise reduction are very good.
The bad: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus is quite bulky, and might not fit comfortably for those who wear glasses. The Vocalyst service is only free for the first year, plus you have to upgrade to the Pro level to get the speech-to-text feature.
The bottom line: The Plantronics Voyager Pro Plus may not be the most stylish headset, but its features and performance more than make up for it.

Big but sound quality trumps size.
by RTFM on October 14, 2010
Pros: The sound quality. I tested the noise canceling by vacuuming while talking and they could not hear the vacuum!
Also the range of volume is fantastic. It can get LOUD but also clear.
I've owned dozens, if you can handle the size...Cons: The only con is the size of course. But again, if you can handle the size aspect the you won't be displeased with the purchase.
Summary:
Oh forgot to add that my wife washed and dried it and it still works perfect! Your mileage may vary...

Good sound in both ends, but too low volume!
by labrat1956 on July 20, 2011
Pros: The sound is very good, also to those who listens to me in the other end.
I also use glasses, but this does not really represent a problem even if the headset itself is quite bulky.
Stays on, and fairly comfortably too!Cons: To low output volume!
In noisy surroundings this headset is useless!Summary: I would have returned my headset if I could, because I know there are other ones available that can be used in noisy surroundings, have much higher sound output than ...
Summary: I would have returned my headset if I could, because I know there are other ones available that can be used in noisy surroundings, have much higher sound output than this one.
The sound is nice when there is fairly quiet, like inside, in the office.
But outside, in a noisy car, it is not good!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

It's not that Great

Summary: I was very excited to get this product. I saw the Voyager Pro+ at a Microsoft Lync seminar. It was promoted as being high quality "the best". I am very disappointed with this product. My testing is proving that when I move to Lync, Plantronics will be left behind.
Here is what I have found;
No email or text sound is heard from phone or headset.
I have my iPhone set to play sounds and vibrate for alerts
I have ensured the phone is not on Silent via the side switch
When my iPhone is connected via bluetooth to another headset (e.g. BlueAnt) the phone will sound an audible alert via the phone speakers when an email or text message is received as well as vibrate. Additionally no sound is heard through the headset.
When my iPhone is connected via bluetooth to my new Voyager Pro+ the phone does not sound an audible alert via the phone speakers when an email or text message is received. The phone only vibrates. Also no sound is heard through the headset.
This is clearly a headset issue.
Support for the product is very slow. I submitted a ticket on 12/9 and have not heard anything from support as of 12/13.
I also have notice that the sound quality is sub-par. The sound crackles, but only sometimes. I have also received complaints from the other party I am talking to about hearing every other word. This has happened in a quiet enviroment.
This headset is promoted as "A2DP streams music, podcasts, GPS and more".
Specifically the "GPS". When you read this, it may appear like I am writing typos, I am not. When the headset is connected I hear "ight" instead of "turn right" and "oad for another 1 mile" instead of "continue on this road for another 1 mile".
Foolish headset. I cannot believe I spent close to $100 for this thing.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Works well, with very important reservation.
by Hate_Signups on November 16, 2011
Pros: Very comfortable to wear for extended periods in spite of the size. I drive a semi and 10 hours is not unusual. Voice messages internal to the headset are useful: "connected to phone", "x hours talk time" and so on.
Cons: 1) The 'in call' volume is 1/2 that of previous models.
2) Ringtone volume is extremely low even at phone maximum level.
3) The actual ringtone implemented may be OK in an office or library environment but is totally useless in background noise.Summary: The Pro series is GREAT. The Pro Plus series is completely useless in any type of background noise. They seem to have reduced the initial volume level with no way ...
Summary: The Pro series is GREAT. The Pro Plus series is completely useless in any type of background noise. They seem to have reduced the initial volume level with no way to increase it beyond the phone settings. This not only affects in-call volume but also the ringtone. The fixed ringtone is a 'chiming tinkling glass' type of thing and CANNOT be changed. Most of the time, a call is missed because it is at such a low level and is not distinguishable from background noise in the car, truck, shop etc. Why they chose to implement a fixed ringtone and not stream the default phone ringtone to the headset is beyond me. The volume level on streaming media can be adjusted almost to the threshold of pain if one wishes. Not so with phone functions. I know of no way to change these parameters.
I've had several Protronics products and purchased the Voyager Pro Plus without hesitation or reservation based on previous experiences and performance. In my opinion, this product re-engineering effort for 'improvement' has rendered a great, almost flawless predecessor (the Pro) into a worthless (Pro Plus) release version. Granted, they have improved the functionality of the product with new features but completely squelched the usefulness and design centers of a bluetooth headset in the process. A complete dud. Save your hundred bucks and get either a Pro (not the Pro Plus) or something else altogether if you are out of the office and expect to be using a bluetooth headset.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best sound quality & the most comfortable bluetooth.
by bmuscl on December 5, 2010
Pros: Sound, comfort, interchangeable inner ear pieces
Cons: It may be a little big/bulky for some people but, I don't have a problem with the size.
Summary: It's the best ear piece I've used next to the model before it (Plantronics Voyager 510).

Summary: I give this unit 5 stars. Forget aboutt the size. I was a little worried about that when I first saw it on display at Best Buy. Once you put it on its really not that big and its super comfortable. Call quality is exceptional and the noise cancellation is simply the best in the industry. The minor quibble is the voice command feature didn't always recognize my commands. Its either me or the noice cancelling interfered. Regardless, its not a big deal since everything else about this unit is so pleasing.
I tried a Jawbone Icon Hero and returned it. I did not like it at all and call quality faded in and out. It also does not have volume controls. I've owned other Plantronics units and every one of them is better than the Jawbone. Its just better technology and it spoils you.
Not so with this unit. It has a volume rocker right on the unit itself. If you want the best call quality with top notch features, this is the unit to get. I highly recommend it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great headset, Major Issue
by cwman20 on November 17, 2010
Pros: This headset is the best all around. Great clarity, great feel, but has one MAJOR glitch. See below
Cons: ALL of the phone sounds are routed through the headset, including text message alerts. The phone does NOT emit a sound when I get a txt message. The PRO+ attempts to make a sound, but it?s too short. The iPhone 4 does not make a sound when using PRO+

Summary: I am the type of person that does a ton of research before making a purchase. That was the case with this purchase. This headset is one of the top rated Bluetooth's on the market. Look for yourself at the reviews on this site and sites like Amazon.
I own or have owned headsets by BlueAnt, Jawbone, Motorola, and other companies. I have always wanted a Plantronics Bluetooth. I have a wireless (non-Bluetooth) Plantronics headset at my office that works great. I really wanted to like this model, but I ultimately returned it for two main reasons.
I found this unit to be very uncomfortable. This is odd as this model receives high marks for its comfort. I found it irritating under normal circumstances. It was also hard to wear when I had eyeglasses on. It was even worse when trying to use it while lying down, etc. It is big and bulky. In addition, I found it hard to turn on and get it in my ear with one hand. Something important when driving.
The main problem that I had with this model was its low incoming volume. I simply had a hard time hearing others even at maximum volume. After a little searching, I found others have complained about this, too. The wind/noise reduction did not seem to work as well as on other units that I have owned.
Ultimately, I ended up getting my second choice, the Jawbone Icon. I absolutely love it. It is comfortable, has great sound quality, and awesome noise reduction. It is my best Bluetooth yet. -
Not Impressed as I thought I would be
by TimmerMom3 on October 3, 2011
Pros: Easy to Pair, Charges Quick, Incoming calls sound great
Cons: Noise Cancellation quality not as good as expected, One size fits all, which is unfortunate if you have small ears, Miic or boom I found overtime will not hold it's position and is not adjustable.

Summary: After reading the reviews and watching the video on CNET I was so impressed that I ordered one of these. I needed a hands free device where people could hear me clearly when I have my air conditioning blasting in my face or walking around on the soccer field or park on a windy day. What sold me was the short clip that highlighted their noise canceling feature of a women in a wind tunnel and her taping the video using the Plantronics Voyage Pro, There was no evidence that she was in a wind tunnel. The head set cancelled out everything. Well I guess that feature only works on a sound stage. It took me a while to realize people couldn't hear me while drving around in my car with the air conditioner on.
Correction. The distance from where the device sits on my ear to where the ear peice enters my ear canal is too long. So the ear piece actually falls abou 1 cm below my external auditory canal. sorry when I re-read my summary it sounded like my ear was only 1 cm large
Another feature that I personally didn't care for is that it's one size fits all. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but with me it is. I have small ears, and the distance from the top of my ear to my external auditory ear canal was about 1 cm. I initially thought I could deal with it but after time it became a major problem. Because it doesn't fit snuggly around the top of my ear it continues to fall off everytime I use it. So now when I decide to use it I have to use my sunglasses to wedge it between my sun glasses and head.
I wish I could have tried one on and did a test call before I made the purchase. Had I done so I don't believe I would have spent the money on it.

Not worth the money

Pros: stays on when working in different positions

Summary: Thought it was a quality unit for the price I paid. My first one worked great for three weeks then no one could hear me. Exchanged for another one, this one didn't last a week, then I could barely hear the other person, had the volume all the way up on ear piece and phone, decided not worth the trouble. Bought a different brand blue-tooth.
