The good: The Sennheiser Momentum headphones are an elegant full-size over-the-ear pair featuring a brushed stainless-steel headband and plush, leather-covered earpads. Sound and build quality are excellent, and the headphones come with a nice carrying case, as well as two cables, one of which has an Apple-friendly in-line remote and microphone.
The bad: The Momentum headphones are pricey and don't fold flat for compact storage.
The bottom line: The Sennheiser Momentum headphones may not have enough bass to satisfy every taste, but they are in every other way the best-sounding full-size audiophile headphones we've heard in a long time.
Light, comfortable and great sounding OTE headphones
by forkboy on March 1, 2014
Pros: Lightweight, attractive design, solid bass, two cords (one with controls, one without), nice & sturdy case, ear cups do not get hot (at least for me)
Cons: Not collapsible for storage, otherwise solid bass can be a bit boomy, ear cups could be a bit wider

Summary: I've waited to write a review until I had used these Momentum over-the-ear headphones for a few weeks. I confess up front I did not have an opportunity to audition many headphones in advance of this purchase, but I will say the others I tried didn't come close.
I had looked for reviews and recommendations around the web and by and large every review I read of the Momentums was very, very positive. I only read one review which panned them for a dip around the 3K area, but I don't hear it. And nor did any other reviewer I came across. But there you go.
I picked up a black pair with the red cables (very sharp) for $300 at a local high-end audio retailer (support brick & mortar!). I took my time auditioning a number of sets ranging from $100 to $350 and readily selected the Momentums. There were things I liked about the other headphones, but I felt the Momentum easily trumped all for the best overall sound as well as for being very light and quite comfortable.
Fit & finish were spot on. The materials all appear appropriate to the price-point. The included travel case is also attractive and seems solid enough to well-protect the headphones. There is also a covered space for the additional cord and 1/4-inch jack.
Being 6'4" a comfortable fit was something I thought would be difficult to find, what with my larger than average head and ears. Yet, I was able to find a perfect setting for these and they are incredibly comfortable. I've had them on for three or more hours at a time and never find them pinching or the ear cups getting hot/itchy. I've made no adjustment to the stainless metal strap which goes over the head as the way it came has worked just fine for me. I do believe part of the reason these are so comfortable as they are very light (especially compared to some of the other sets I auditioned).
I have found, with more wear that the ear cups could be a bit wider (back to front) to better cover my ear completely. The best position appears to be such that the ear cup sits off the back of my outer lobe. Even though complete ear coverage could be better the isolation from outside noise is truly great. I can't wait to try them on an airplane, where I think they will be perfect.
Regarding their sound I had found them to be the best overall sounding cans I auditioned. At first I think I would have liked for them to be a bit brighter in the upper highs, but this may be as much a factor of age than anything else. But after using them more I think some of the other cans I tried may have been pushing the upper highs too much. If nothing else the uppers are very crisp and not distorted at all. There is no harshness or such to mar cymbals splashing, etc. The mids and vocals are perfect. And the bass... the bass is almost, but not quite perfect. It's full, thumping and generally solid, but a bit (just a wee bit) muddled here and there. In some ways I think this is due to the cans being closed back. However, compared to the other cans I tried the bass on the Momentums was a real winner even with the bit of boom.
Lastly, in terms of efficiency I couldn't be happier. I make a fair bit of use of these headphones with an older iPod Touch and, can you believe it, iPod Shuffle. Yep... the Shuffle will power these things just fine for when I'm doing some housework. This was a bonus I had not counted upon, but had hoped would be true based upon their specs.
I think I can sum up how pleased I have been with this purchase by stating I'm actually considering the purchase of a dedicated headphone amp and/or DAC for use when I'm in front of my computer. I think my music collection would sound even better with such as I believe these Momentums could make full use of such technology.
best mobile headphones money can buy
by dsnerdking on December 17, 2013
Pros: great flat frequency response, super rich detail and build quality out the ass. low impedance means no amp. they stay on my head even wile running. great 2 year warranty. inline mike. removable cable. comes with hard case. little to no noise bleed.
Cons: if your a bass head they wont rock your world. to be honest the frequency response is so wonderfully flat that it can be boring to listen to at times. the sound stage is a little small because they are closed back headphones.

Summary: i have painstakingly listened to every headphone we sell at best buy and i can say without a doubt these are the best headphones to use paired with a cellphone mp3 player or tablet. these headphones are low resistance and are fairly easy to power with a mobile device. now i'm not saying that they cant benefit form an amp but the sound increase isn't night and day like with 32olm pair (which to achieve the same quality of sound is the way most headphones go). the best competitor would be the bowers and Wilkins p5 which i also own at 24olms but i prefer the sennheirsers. the have more detail and the don't bleed sound like the p5s do. i can blast my music next to my girl in bed and she hears nothing. the do do better with compressed audio but i don't have a problem with this because i listen to exclusively 320kbps. the detachable cable is nice so that you can wear the headphones without needing to have the cable in the way. the build quality is really good. all metal and leather (except the ear cups that are plastic) design that really gives you a premium feel to the headphones. the included case is a hard case. it wouldn't stop you for sitting on them but it will defiantly keep them safe in a bag lest you have a ton of bricks in with it. on to the sound. the sound is even or flat. you get an even mix of bass mids and treble. this makes them sound good with everything. this to some is perfect but the one drawback is because its good at everything it isnt great at anything. it doesnt have ear splitting bass warm mids or sweet sounding highs. this makes them a bit boring to listen to. the big thing that makes up for this is the level of detail you get in them. you are constantly going oow i didn't know that was there. i will say they are great audiophile headphones but if you specialize in a particular kind of music finding a pair that compliments that kind of music might be a better plan. but if your like me and love lots of different kinds of music and want to listen to it unamped and on the go these are the headphones to go with.
Amazing sound, crazy light, so classy
by Ali2475 on October 10, 2013
Pros: weigh like negative weight
unreal sound with no distortion at 100% volume
tight, controlled bass that runs wild when it should and keeps itself in check when it's inappropriate
highs and mids are just gorgeous
Cons: clamping force can be a bit much on the head, but the lightweight nature of the headphones make up for this.

Summary: Honestly the best sounding all around headphone at its pricepoint. Amazing for all genres of music; it has the bass for dubstep and the mids for classical, and provides equally well for everything in between. Gorgeous headphone with gorgeous sound.
My only gripe is that the ear pads can run a bit small, and feel a bit uncomfortable on some days.

Summary: An all rounder that's the got the best of all departments, Sennheiser Momentum over the ear headphone plays the perfect host to multiple genres. Endowed with kind of a retro look, it really does justice to its name and the fashion forward design, and tags velocity to every move of yours. It is spot on as far as audio quality is concerned and has that x-factor working for it.
Fitted with neodymium drivers that deliver audio covering the complete frequency range of the average human ear, you gotta brace yourself for some rock solid music listening experience with Sennheiser Momentum. It offers balanced and exceptionally clear sound along with plush contours, a 'smart remote' and handling convenience to add to the booty. Its noise cancelling feature does fairly good as well when you are making your way through busy environments. What's more, it is supplemented with two cables and a 3.5mm jack for utmost flexibility and zero tangles.
You wouldn't like any other headphone once you've laid your hands on this one. It's seriously difficult to get enough of it. Wouldn't be wrong to say it is a true reflection of the Sennheiser promise that has ruled the rooster for so many decades and the benchmark of a superior over the ear headphone that is hard to beat. shop.sennheiserindia
