The good: The Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 headphones are ultracompact and let you cut the cord from your A2DP-compatible music phone. The earbuds offer deep bass and generally solid sound quality, and the package includes a storage box.
The bad: The Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 headphones may not fit all users well, they're pricey, and the sound quality is not on par with wired models.
The bottom line: The solid-sounding Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 Wireless Stereo Headphones are an excellent option for anyone looking for the very smallest Bluetooth headset money can buy to use with an A2DP-compatible music phone or MP3 player.

Summary: I'm a bluetooth headphone nut. no, you won't get the quality sound as you would from a wired set and if you didn't realize that then bluetooth isn't for you. I have had Jaybirds, Plantronics, Motorola, Sony and Nokia. these are by far the best ones for me. I use them for my gym trips, commuter rides and walk arounds. I get about 4-6 hours of steady music play since my phone functions as my music player now. If you're looking for something to hear music decently, answer your phone calls, light weight and comfortable and are in ear buds...I would recommend these. i paid 65.71 with tax in NYC this year (2011)

Great product for use with mobiles - not Windows!
by Mondo-rama on September 16, 2011
Pros: Compact and light, easy to use, any headphones with a 3.5mm jack will fit and reasonable battery life.
Cons: Will not connect to your PC without extensive internet search - even then, there may be issues as windows does not support 3rd party bluetooth devices - the only thing stopping me giving this an "Excellent" rating.

Summary: I really love this unit with my mobile, streaming youtube or music with the freedom to have my hands free and roam without being restricted by a cable. It work flawlessly compared to some other top notch bluetooth products I've had in the past. I just wish Sony Ericsson would get their act together and find an easy solution to the driver problem in Windows 7... come on it's 2011!

Worst product ever - should not be on the market
by rlblackburn on August 7, 2011

I've never had the problem adjusting the volume on my iPhone 3GS that others have mentioned. The iPhone volume controls have always just worked.
I bought one of these last fall and was happy enough with it that we bought another in the household for Christmas. The Christmas present was dead out of the box. The retailer referred us to Sony-Ericsson who did replace the unit.
Since Christmas, the two units have been replaced a total of 5 times, and one is dead again a week after it arrived. 7 failures in 7 months. I don't do anything unexpected with them - I put them in my ears and mow the lawn, lift weights, or just sit in the car. I don't even do anything as violent as running.
There are a few different failure modes, but I've seen some more than once, and all result in a device that does not produce sound.
Customer service is painful and unreliable. You must send in proof of purchase before they will provide an RMA.
You will be told they will call you when they have verified your purchase. They will not.
The first time I was told I must FAX them the proof of purchase. Fairly inconvenient. On subsequent call, after asking, I found that they do accept scanned copies via email.
Caution - they don't read their email. One time I was told they did not contact me because they did not have the information that was in the email. Apparently they had only looked at the attachment, not the body of the email itself.
The U.S. mail address they give you over the phone differs from the one in the return instructions they email to you - every time.
They don't tell you they will be emailing instructions (which often don't arrive until the next day).
One (1) time, they actually emailed me a return shipping label that would have covered shipping costs - but they didn't tell me they would do so and it did not come until after I had already shipped the unit. So, useless.
Even after all of these failures and having expressed my dissatisfaction in the strongest terms, they refuse to refund my money. Instead, they insist on perpetuating this cycle of both parties having to spend time and money on exchanging a product that obviously should not be on the market. The last time I was told they would substitute a different model for one of my units (both were broken at the same time). That didn't happen.
I have lost all respect for Sony as a consumer electronics company and will never buy a product with a Sony or Ericsson label on it again.

It does suffer from short audio drop-outs from time to time.
Both volume control and the drop-outs, of course, only happen when the unit is working at all, which isn't often. -
Good Device

I had some money to burn, so I figured that I would go out and purchase these headphones straight off from Fry's, while I'm waiting for my eBay ones to come.
On first unpackaging, the device comes with a funny little charger. It's an actual SE charger that ONLY has the charging contacts. Thus, with this in mind, I have a few USB cables for SEs, as I used to dabble in that brand quite a bit.
Well, if the USB cable you get HAS THE CORRECT CHARGING CONTACTS, then it WILL CHARGE THIS HEADSET. I actually performed my first, initial full charge with my USB charger connected to my computer.
And about the iPhone...it will work with the 4.0.2 update (although I'm sure it works with the 4.0.1 and 4.0 update as well).
The volume control works well on these iOS's. Everything works as expected from any other bluetooth headset device. The only thing you can't do is next track and previous track with them. Doing a multi-click will cause you to call the last called person, and holding the button until you hear a small ding (which is not very audible) will activate voice control.
I did not notice a lag when on a call, nor when listening to music, hopping in between tracks, scrubbing (manually locating my place in the music timeline), etc.
CONS:
1) The headphones are great, and yes, a lot of the music quality and sound have to do with how you encode your music. However, I did notice that the magnets in these headphones aren't as powerful as most of my wired headphones.
Either way, in most of my environments, they are at a reasonable volume level.
2) This isn't noticed as most since on most headphones, they have a headband which holds the wire, or with ear buds, the wire streams down in front of you, so it's not really that big of an issue.
However, it's more noticeable on these, because these consist of the earbuds and the wire that connects them. Makes me more hesitant with these, because you can't really bunch them into a little ball and whatnot. Not even close to a deal breaker at all, but just something to note, which makes me slightly hesitant about....
3) The case that comes with them, which as another reviewer mentioned, seems cheap. It is a cool little case, but it does feel very flimsy. Kinda' wish it were tougher, as I feel if I dropped it, it'd crack, chip, or snap. Which is a small point to make, since this case has NO WEIGHT TO IT. The plastic seems that cheap and flimsy.
But until the case does meet its end, I will use it, because it's decent.
OVERALL:
If you're questioning or hesitant, and can get these, then get them. They are a good set of headphones, and you'll enjoy them. They definitely will free you from your wires. Just don't forget to charge them, haha. -
Nice looking but waste of money
by tkruskamp on June 19, 2010
Pros: Small headset
Easy to connectCons: Wouldn't have a problem with the keeping connection for phone calls but wouldn't on when listening to music.
Summary: I really hated turning back this bluetooth but was a pain as I had to "re-activate" bluetooth on my phone every day. Shouldn't have to do that.

Useless for listening to music on iphone 3GS

Cons: Cannot control volume with iphone 3GS. The default volume is too loud. Lacks some bass. Sound quality so-so.

Summary: I think the problem is with Apple software so I can't blame the IS800 for not having its own volume control on the hardware since it would have affected the size. Another disappointment for Apple for not fixing this problem despite all the clamor on the web about this. Unfortunately I didn't get to read those reviews before I bought this. It is a deal breaker. It is going to be returned promptly.

Pros: talk quality is ok, but person on other end cant hear you because the mic is on the side or back of your head.

Summary: I was EXTREMELY skeptical w/ buying these as I read all the previous bad reviews. In any case, I took the plunge w/ every intention of returning it if any of the previous concerns popped up.
Bottom line, I'm VERY VERY happy with these. First, linking this with my phone was not difficult at all. I have an unlocked LG Crystal. Second, directions told me to first charge it for 8 hrs, but after 1.5hrs of charging, the light was green so I was ready to go. Battery life lasted about 3 hours. I listened to music for about 2.5hrs and then watched Quantum of Solace on my phone w/ no problems, although the sound and pictures were off-sync by about .3 seconds; not really noticeable but I'm a stickler for those things. I left the phone on the table and walked off to a good twenty feet away and it cut out once, but came right back. I got a warning beep after two hours or so and it still kept going for another 25 min. Third, I did NOT experience the heat from the right side where the battery was located.
Sure the base could be better, but it was plenty good, as good as my OEM wired headphones. I tested out the set w/ a phonecall at home and it was pretty clear without any interference. I'll test it out at the office to see if that changes. I changed out the small size ear piece for the medium sized ones and it fits quite comfortably, even took to jumping around and they stayed in just fine. The design of the unit was also great. There's no thick bar hanging on top of your head or behind your neck so it's very comfortable to wear. My ears also feel fine after wearing them for three hours. I can't say the same for some of the other "inside the ear" headphones I've tried.
Next, I took a drive in my convertible on the local streets, with the top down, got up to about 60MPH and did not hear any outside wind so that was very nice. I'll test it out tomorrow on the fwy and see how it responds.
I'll use this for the next month to see if it dies like one of the other reviews noted. The unit does not have any control buttons on there except for the on/off button but I prefer to control the songs and volume from my phone anyways. Since this unit was so small in size, any buttons would just be too difficult to use. The carrying case is convenient but nothing to write home about, just cheap plastic and fake velvet. This unit was damn expensive, I paid $150, including taxes here in California, so if you can get a cheaper set online, get it. I'm definitely going to keep this unit. Great compact design, sounds great, not fantastic, but definitely great. All in all, I really love this unit!!
