The good: Discrete 5.1 surround sound headphones; supports headset chatting; various amount of adjustable controls; extra earcups; detachable microphone; compatible with most PCs and gaming consoles.
The bad: Headphones require power; tedious setup; requires a lot of wires; included 3-foot optical cable and USB cable won't get you far; heavy headphones; doesn't work with the Wii.
The bottom line: If you can get past its tedious setup, the AX Pro 5.1 Gaming Headset performs extremely well and is compatible with pretty much every gaming PC and game console except the Wii.

Summary: PS3 for life..Ive had the Tritton AX 720's (i upgraded to the Pro's. The Pro's are WAY BETTER, spend that extra $40, trust me) and purchased the TurtleBeach DPX21 (which i returned for the Pro's). And i have to say that the Pro's are way better then these two named. The sound quality is awesome. Comfort wise, the 720's match with the Pro's, meaning they are VERY VERY comfortable. Im a bigger guy with a bigger head, ears and sometimes wears glasses, the DPX21's, although sounded good, were not as comfortable. if the DPX21 were like the TB X41's headset, then i'd say that the 21's could possibly be better. The Pro's were lighter then the 720's ( in my opinion). There are wires here and there, but the sound and comfort, i feel, makes up for that flaw. When you first see the many buttons to configure your sound, its not as bad as it looks and you get the hang of adjusting your sounds to your liking. The Bass is pounding and loud. You truly get the 5.1 surround with this headset. Ive already recommended these to many of my friends who are thinking of getting a headset.

These are good, but there are better choices.
by Jimmybock16 on January 18, 2011
Pros: Comfortable ear cups
5.1 surround is very crisp
Light weightCons: Volume seems weak, maybe I set it up wrong
Construction of the headset felt cheap
Microphone can't be bent, but it is removable

Summary: My wife bought me these and the Turtle Beach DPX21's to try. I'm taking these AX Pros back because I liked the Turtle Beach ones better. The overall sound quality between the two is very, very close. It just seemed to me like the DPX21's were a more efficient package. Plus the DPX21's have much better volume and bass. I would recommend you buy both and try them, then take one of them back. Best Buy will let you do that. The only real knock I have on these is weak volume and they don't seem sturdy. Other than that they have great sound.

So far, so good. Love the true 5.1!!!
by joker61199 on August 19, 2010
Pros: Ability to have full control and customization of the audio experience, a sound that completely encompasses you whether playing a game or watching a movie, good build quality (so far), the Ts on headset glow, flexible mic, and a smaller amp.
Cons: None so far. . .

Summary: I had the Tritton AX720s and loved them until the right headphone went out due to the wiring connected at the amp. I bought them from Best Buy and got the 2 year service plan, which I absolutely recommend. This allowed me to return the headset directly to Best Buy for a full refund. I planned on getting another set of 720s, but I saw the AX PROs sitting on the shelf. They looked very nice and I liked the gray coloring over the white of the 720s. I have owned them for about 2 months now and have not had any issues so far. The build qualiy seems to be sturdy and the sound is absolutely encompassing. I use them on a 10-15 hour a week basis. I use them for COD MW2 for the most part and I can tell you I almost feel like I am cheating. I can hear someone walk a complete 360 circle around my character. There is no way to describe it the experience, you will just have to try them. I had the 720s for about 4 months before the headphone started going bad. The PROs have break away cables so I am hoping this will eliminate the issue I had with the 720s. I cannot complain so far and would absolutely recommend these to anyone looking to enhance their gaming or movie experience.

For the price you'd expect a product that won't break.
by UDieHereNNow on August 1, 2010
Pros: Great sound, 5.1 surround, can connect to PC/PS3/XBox360 and virtually all else, separate controls for the different speakers, great base response.
Cons: mic is worthless (can't be heard or understood then breaks), cheap and inexpensive wiring (will break in less than a year causing sound degradation or even loss), lights get very hot and cannot be turned off, absolutely terrible customer service

Summary: For the price and the time spent on the headset I personally know the ins and outs of this device. I am very disappointed in the Tritton AX Pro. The wires and soldering on this headset are laughable at best (and no it was not a defected headset, its the manufacturing as multiple headsets revealed). Sound quality is great (comparable to the Astro A40 even) for the first couple months, after which the sound changes from the poor wires and manufacturing. There have even been reports of sound stopping all together, and I have been close to that happening myself. The cheap plastic and awkward material make the headset flimsy and fragile. The ear cups are uncomfortable, particularly if you wear glasses, and can cause a headache from the unnecessary weight on your head; not to mention you start sweating in the first 30 minutes of its use. Not only is the product useful ONLY for the first couple months or until warranty expires (at which point it will inevitably break), but customer service is, well, there is none. I have sent several e-mails and messages, all of which were ignored and never even acknowledged.
Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere if possible to save from headaches and an expensive product that just doesn't keep its end of the deal. I used this headset for gaming, movies, and music and virtually everyday (to keep from disturbing the neighbors or family during a late night COD match or epic blu-ray movie). I got this headset because it is one of the VERY FEW that can connect to the PS3, and was excited to get it; but that excitement has long ceased and only grief persist that this product broke from nothing more than being used. -
2010 Tritton AX Pro Gaming Headset
by Elusiv3Sloth on July 22, 2010
Pros: The sound is amazing compared to the cheaper ax 720. They are extremely comfortable and light in my opinion.
Cons: The only downside to this product is that it is not wireless. Even though wireless headsets have lesser sound quality and more interference they are more convenient.

Summary: I went to Best Buy in search of a surround sound gaming headset for ps3 and xbox 360. My first purchase were the ax 720s which were decent, but one of the headphones didn't work and you couldn't customize your sound. I returned those and I was debating on buying the turtle beach x41s or the tritton ax pros. I went onto best buy's in store computer, and looked at the reviews for both of them. The reviews were 3.9 and 3.8 respectively. People said that the turtle beach x41s were either really good or they were terrible. Every review said that they had minor hissing and communication problems and they are also $30 more than the pros. I then read some of the ax pro reviews. People were just nagging about shotty build quality, non-flexible mic, and the fact that it used two different ac adapters. The 2010 version now comes bundled with a flexible mic and only one ac adapter, and they seem pretty sturdy. The other difference between the x41 and the ax pros was that tritton has true surround sound vs simulated sound. The x41 also talked up the fact that it was 7.1 dolby digital, but I don't know any games that support it. You also have to replace the batteries every 10 hours which was another minus and since they are wireless, the sound quality cannot be up to par with the ax pros. The x41s are also not compatible with ps3 chat out of the box, they make you buy a separate cable on turtle beach's website. To get the turtle beaches fully compatible with your ps3 your looking at $230 compared to $170 with the tritton's. There were just way too many complaints and issues with the x41s that I decided to not buy them. I chose to get the ax pros with 4 speakers in each ear instead of just one with the x41. When I got home I ripped them out of the box and it took me 30 minutes to get them up and running. I decided to test them out in uncharted 2 first. All I can say is god damn they have good sound. The gunfire and sound of grenades exploding in your face is something that everyone has to experience. I used to play the game audio through my video game chair which had 2 small speakers and a subwoofer, and these things truly trump my chair. This headset truly changes your gaming experience, and it left me wanting to try all of my old games out to see what cool background sounds and what not they would pick up. Another game I popped in was Dead Space, and that headset scared me to death whenever an enemy would pop out in front of me. I have not yet tried out modern warfare 2 yet, but I am excited to see the sound change. All in all, if you want to improve your overall gaming experience look no further than the Tritton AX Pros.
P.S. I recommend purchasing these headphones at Best Buy with the 2 year warranty in case they break. -

Pros: Fantastic surround sound..Deep rich subwoofer. Can easly hear someone walking behind you or walking up steps in COD. Makes you feel that you are IN the game. Nice

Pros: crisp highs, great mic sound, seperate voice volume and game volume, individual channel volume adjustment, comfort, cool look, wire length, removable mic, and easy to use and read inline volume - mic panel.

Summary: after reading the other reviews i think its important to say that they have fixed the mic problem and the mic is now flexible rubber instead of plastic. the headset is super comfortable and has 2 types of ear pads - leather and cloth - you also get the same option with the head pad. definately do not have to worry about your ears hurting. the fact that you can adjust each channel individualy is super sweet. i use it with socom on ps3 and it is crazy how i can tell where people are before i can even see them. also i like that you can use it with both the 360 and ps3.people seem to say there are a lot of wires but no more than normal. its really not a big deaal plus they are super long do you dont have to worry about being stuck 2 feet from the system. if you cry about the wires buy a wireless system and lose the whole purpose of getting a headset and forget about the quality sound you can get only by having a wired system. the biggest problem i have had is with the support. my headset came with the wire frayed in 3 spots from winding then up so tight in the package i think. the wiring is for sure cheap and thin and sub par for this system. the customer support never returned my email about the frayed wires. the plastic shell also feels a little cheap and could be improved to feel a little more ridged. the tritton symbol on the ears lights up witch i super cool as far as looks go. i think overall the sound is pretty good for gaming. i would like to hear more deeper sounds from the sub though. it seems that when listening to music they just sound average. dvd's and blu ray discs sound pretty good also. i actually like using the headphones than using my surround sound system which is a great sony setup. id really like to see a more powerful speaker system used in the headset and a sub woofer that is also on top that vibrates to greater immerse the gamer. so when it comes down to it i think 140.00 would be a fair price for these. it would also be nice to have a nicer decoding box and a longer optical wire than what is included. so my final suggestion is if you have multiple gaming systems and no surround sound system go ahead and buy these. i think im going to send my set back and try the astro a40's and decide between the 2. i really liked the fact that the ax pros had actual 5.1 coming from them. but i think the quality of the speakers ruins the experience. ill chime in when i test the a40's and give a definitive answer to which is better.
