Turtle Beach Ear Force PX21 Universal Gaming Headset price range: $65.77 - $89.95

The good: Stereo headset for game consoles; works with PlayStation Network and Xbox Live in-game chat; long 16-foot wire; RCA bypass-capable connections; in-line control box; adjustable boom mic; also works as a PC/Mac headset.
The bad: No support for surround sound; stereo analog connections only; may require a lot of unplugging if used with multiple devices.
The bottom line: The Ear Force P21 headset may not support surround sound, but it is a solid stereo headset for voice chatting in Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games.

Sub-Par sound quality. However, comfortable.
by NegateReality on November 18, 2010
Pros: Comfortable. Adjustable.
Cons: Everything else. Bad sound quality. Lots of hissing and static. Low voice output and pickup. Some of the dials either didn't work or changed it so minutely you couldn't notice.
Summary: Waste of cash. Do yourself a favor and pick up a cheapo off brand version if you're considering this product.

by brysonsmaughmer on September 4, 2010
Pros: awesome sound i love everything about them.
Cons: they sold it with a broken "talkback" wire. then they want you to buy another one from them. its a scam. i watched an online video and this other kids came broken too but his broken part was the clip on the volume bar thing. bad product.
Summary: get it if you want to risk buying a defective headset. or if you just like buying expensive brand new broken things.

Not as good as they say!
by dothatthing on July 29, 2010
Pros: Works on PS3, XBOX 360, and PC
Cons: Background hiss, poor build quality, no on/off switch, must be powered by usb, sound quality not great.

Summary: Alot of things I have heard about the PX21s are good. I'm not sure how long those people have used these for, or how experienced they are with this kind of equipment, but in my opinion, these are not worth the price. I appreciate CNET for reviewing alot of products out there in order to inform us consumers so that we can make a wiser purchase. I do not , however, appreciate them providing false information. CNET wrote in their review:
"You can either use the USB dongle as a virtual sound card or use the included 1/8-inch-to-stereo-RCA adapter to attach it to your sound card. Either way, the headset performs just as well, adding to the overall value of the product."
BUYER BEWARE!! This is not true!! In order to use these as headphones, the usb must be plugged in to power the device. Also, when ONLY the usb is plugged in, ONLY the microphone and chat will come through, not music or game sound. This also means that you can't listen to an external device without usb power.
If you are considering these headphones, go to amazon and look at some of the not so great reviews to get a better idea of what you're getting into. I read about many people having the clip on the volume control unit break. I just assumed that they were overly rough with it. Well, my clip broke as well, and after the first week of use! I wasn't even using it when it broke, and the headphones were carefully placed out of harm's way. The clip on this device is simply very flimsy and fragile. A coiled spring is held in place by two very small pieces of plastic, and the pressure generated by the spring will over time break the plastic completely and render the clip useless.
There is also a low-level background hiss or white noise that is always present. When you are listening to something, the sound drowns out the hiss, but you still know it's there. The sound quality of these headphones is not that great, either. The quality is about the same as a cheap pair of headphones or earbuds. Also, there is no power switch, so unless you unplug these from the usb port on your console or pc, the power and LED indicator always remain on.
The PX21s work with the PS3 by utilizing a stereo RCA passthrough cable. What this means is that you plug these into the PS3 RCA cables and then plug that into the TV. The headphones then uses the built in amplifier and the RCA audio input to generate the sound. This means that if you use HDMI cables, you have to use the PS3 RCA cables as well in order for the headphones to get a signal. This seems like a very rudimentary way of getting audio to your headset
The Turtle Beach PX21s do what they advertise, they work on the PS3, XBOX 360, and PC. They do actually work, but nothing that they do warrants the 80 dollar price tag. I would highly recommend saving your money for something better that might come along down the road, or paying a little extra for a better quality device that works well and has 5.1 surround sound. Buyer beware.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Absolute value for money!
by EliteAlex000 on June 5, 2010
Pros: the sound quality is crisp, these will enhance your gaming experience greatly. I use them for PS3 but they work on multi platforms, so your brother can use them too!
Cons: i havent been able to fault them as such. Only one thing, when i first took them out of the box they felt quite flimsy but rest assured, the build quality is excellent.
Summary: At first i was a bit sceptical whether to buy them as of the price, but they are truly "well worth-it". They WILL take your gaming experience to a whole ...

Started out great but poor build quality became obvious
by geobig on March 21, 2013
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Poor construction and materials. Earpieces came off and had to be super glued back on the head band. Finally the voice feature gave out.
Summary: Look for a different manufacturer. I'm shopping now.

don't waste you money on these.
by mjdlynch on October 29, 2012
Pros: I'm thinking. I'm thinking.....
Cons: There is a tri-axial stress point just above the earpiece bracket. This high stress point is constructed of the cheapest re-grind plastic known to man. Even foreign workers look at it and say "that's too cheap to work"

Okay headset if you do not use it much.
by Hetef on August 18, 2012
Pros: Great sound, nice features and compatibility .
Cons: Went through 2 different headsets of this brand, the volume controller in-line went out on both PX21 headsets.
Summary: It's a great headset for those who would use it ever now and then. I feel that if you are an avid gamer and use a headset all the ...

Less than average headphone
by AiDsMoNkEy704 on February 14, 2012
Pros: Multi platform usage. I also use these headphones for creating commentaries for YouTube, and they work fine.
Cons: Sound quality is very cheap. Explosions in the game sound like crackling noises. Also, the volume control dial/amp unit is very sensitive to movement. Instead of click dials, it has the old circular turn dials.
Summary: Overall it's decent if you never used headphones before. I would spend a little bit more money to get a better sounding product.
