V-moda Vibe II (Nero) price range: $99.95 - $119.95

The good: The V-moda Vibe II earphones are sleek and stylish, and seem to be durable because of the heavy-duty hardware and thick, cloth cable. A variety of ear fittings and clips are included for a secure fit. Sound quality is good on the whole.
The bad: The V-moda Vibe II earphones may be too bass-heavy for some, and they're not the best choice for active pursuits because of their weight and cable noise issue.
The bottom line: The V-moda Vibe II earphones are a great option for style-conscious iPhone users who want thumping bass and hefty hardware in a stereo headset.
V-moda has gained quite a reputation for its stylish, low-profile earbuds. The good word has been helped along by the fact that these 'phones are not just lookers, but they offer impressive sound quality as well. The latest model to be pumped out of the V-moda factory, the Vibe II, is no exception. This $128 pair offers solid sound quality; a sleek design with a unique cable and a built-in mic for use with the iPhone and other music phones; and an updated plug housing that's designed to withstand more wear and tear than previous models. Just make sure that you love bass before plopping down the dough for these earphones.
V-moda really excels in the design department, and the Vibe Duo earphones are a perfect example of this. The set starts with a standard gold-plated plug, which is encased in a modified L-shaped rubberized housing--it's reminiscent of a hose spray nozzle and seems more rugged than that of previous models. This is followed by 34 inches of cable, which splits at a hefty chrome-plated call answer button module into an additional 13 inches of Y-cable that leads to the two tiny earbuds. Along the way to the right 'bud, you'll find a shirt clip and a small mic, which is also encased in metal.
The Vibe II is available in two color options: Nero, which is black with chrome accents, and Chrome/Rouge, which is silver with reddish orange accents. The overall design--from the funky, dual-colored earpieces to the fabric-coated cable--looks good and feels durable. V-moda includes a basic carrying pouch to keep your investment looking good, as well as silicone ear tips ranging from extra-small to large in both black and clear versions. We had no problems achieving a secure and comfortable fit; although all the metal makes the earbuds heavy, the integrated shirt clip and optional earclips included in the package help with that issue. Still, some users may find the weight and clips bothersome (plus, the clips add bulk to the otherwise low-profile style).
If you can get a good fit with the V-moda Vibe II, you'll be rewarded with good audio quality and impressive sound isolation. However, there is a noticeable amount of noise produced by the cable rubbing across your body, an unintended side effect of a great seal with the ear. This combined with the weight issue make the earphones an unsuitable choice for active pursuits. The Vibe II is also not the best option for anyone who doesn't want deep, all-encompassing bass. The earphones are heavy on the low end, but we experienced no issues with distortion and mids still sounded rich and lovely. High-end details do have a tendency to get lost, so these may not be the best bet for those who want the most crystal clear playback. Still, we were satisfied with performance on the whole. No doubt they are a step up from the set that came with your MP3 player or iPhone.

Cable broke in 3 months
by guitardaryl on April 5, 2009
Pros: sounded good when they worked. There is a lot of bass which i like but the bass is way to uncontrolled (muddy)
Cons: Spent more time untangling the cable then i did listening with them
Summary: For what they cost they should be durable as advertised. The cable is constantly tangled and crimps all over the place. which is probably why they broke so soon. I ...

Decent, but not great
by irmiger on December 19, 2008
Pros: Very solid construction and the fabric-coated cabling is wonderful. Good range of tip sizes fit well. Mic is clear and concise with good placement.
Cons: Far too heavy for any normally active use. The control button is not easy to feel. Heavy button action is hard to double click. Bass is very muddled and entire frequency range lacks definition. No hard case.
Summary: A nicely constructed unit, well made and handsome, but even after getting a really good fit with the pads, these buds kept falling out of my ears even just walking. ...
Summary: A nicely constructed unit, well made and handsome, but even after getting a really good fit with the pads, these buds kept falling out of my ears even just walking. The control button and mic housings are also metal which weigh the cables down even more. This is a prime example where metal just doesn't work even if they can take a beating. The control housing has a tapered-cylindrical shape to it including the button itself, which means that you're not sure if you're actually pressing the housing or the button. A shape with flats would more clearly define your finger alignment.
The sound output is poor for headphones in this price range. Bass is muddy and ill defined, which is surprising considering that V-moda is known for producing bass-heavy drivers. This could have been saved if the mids and highs had any amount of clarity and punch, which they didn't. The Apple In-Ear headphones lacked bass, but at least had very good mids and highs.
Overall, I'd say these were stylish yet ill-conceived in terms of usable weight and had so-so sound reproduction more reminiscent of headphones half this price. I happily returned mine.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not worth the prcice
by hwrc88 on January 22, 2009
Pros: Nice fashionable look
Good fitCons: The cable tangles very easy which caused my right ear bud to cut out. The bass is very muddled and the sound is comparable to ear buds that cost $25 to $40. The range is very limited.

Summary: These headphones are a great addition to any MP3 player and or iPhone. They have the niceties of a controller and a microphone and are so durable they will last for years. The sound is amazing and the noise cancellation is very impressive for these small earbuds. The bose triport canalbuds are horrible compared to these. Well worth the money and you will be impressed! P.S. i LOVE bass so all that stuff about bass heavy i don't think is true. Plus if you want to remove bass go into the eq settings on the MP3 player and chose bass reducer...
These earbuds are available for Pre-Order everywhere but the Apple Store carries them. Best Buy does not carry V-Moda. You have to wait 3 weeks to get them from V-Moda's online store.

Waste of money
by AmbaWorrior on May 21, 2009
Pros: Decent sound quality, deep bass. Good grip in the ear - doesn't fall off during workout.
Cons: Poor quality product, seems as if it's build our of the cheapest materials.
Wouldn't last 3 months - something will break or just won't work as it should.Summary: I bought the first pair 6 months ago, I must admit the sound quality is ear blasting. But, 3 months later the left ear-bud stopped working, could hear NOTHING. Went ...
Summary: I bought the first pair 6 months ago, I must admit the sound quality is ear blasting. But, 3 months later the left ear-bud stopped working, could hear NOTHING. Went to the store and they replaced it with a new pair (yeepee).
A Month go by, and the right ear-bud cracked open like an egg, I applied some crazy glue and moved on.
Few weeks go by, the left ear-bud is not working 50% of the time and when it does work, it distorts the sound.
Went back to the store, but they refuse to replace/compensate, instead they told me to contact V-Moda customer support. V-Moda guys want a proof I purchased the product, I tossed the receipt a long time ago, now I'm stuck with a 120$ worth worth headphones I cannot use...
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! -
Heavy, uncomfortable, unreliable and expensive.
Pros: Very well packaged in an aesthetically pleasing box.

Summary: The ear phones themselves are heavy, and fall out of the ear canal while walking at a slow pace. The only time they do not fall out is when they are fully inserted into the ear canal, which is uncomfortable, and at times even painful.
The bass sounds are hollow and poorly developed. Again, the audio quality is almost acceptable only when they are fully seated into the ear canal. At the price point for which these head phones are offered I would expect a more thoroughly market researched product. The headphones uncomfortable ergonomic design, lack-luster performance, and poor reliability, is most disappointing. The stock earphones from Apple are, both, more comfortable and provide higher quality audio. -

Summary: As a owner of the vibe Duo and now the vibe II I can tell you that I couldn't be happier. They they are the best sounding headphones i've ever owned and I wouldn't switch back to the standard earbuds for twice the price. Great product defiantly a keeper.
