Alpine KCE-400BT Bluetooth Adapter price range: $115.00

The good: The Alpine KCE-400BT allows users to easily add Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming to a compatible Alpine car stereo. Active Echo Cancellation makes calls clear and reduces background noise. Automatic importing of contacts and support for voice dialing makes it quick and easy to initiate calls.
The bad: Contact list updates can take several moments, during which no calls can be made. Installation requires more steps and hardwiring than a standalone Bluetooth speakerphone. When paired to units that don't feature a touch screen, calls are limited to numbers previously saved.
The bottom line: For users who already own an Alpine car audio receiver, the KCE-400BT offers an easy way to extend the functionality, safety, and usable life of the headunit by adding clear, hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming.

With most phones, can't reconnect after the first time.
by MrPeteH on May 8, 2011
Pros: Good sound.
Cons: Almost useless as a product. Must un-pair and pair again every time I enter the car.
Summary: I sure hope they fix this soon! For such an expensive unit (head unit plus BT module are hundreds of dollars... plus install time...) this is horrible.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
by statecowboy on December 22, 2010
Pros: Sometimes works. I've tried blackberry tour, palm pre, htc evo, and samsung epic. All had same problems.
Cons: Does not connect after car turns off. First time you pair and connect a phone it works great, but as soon as I turn car off it does not reconnect. You can make and receive calls from the phone, but not from head unit.

Summary: This was a bad investment. The unit pairs and connects fine the first time, but as soon as the car turns off, next time i start car phone does not connect. This means i cant make calls from the head unit or use any of the bluetooth functionality from the head unit. The unit does pair with the phone so when i accept a call (with my phone) it will pick it up through bluetooth, but it does not connect, so the caller doesnt show, and i cant access phonebook or make call from head unit. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND ALPINE SUPPORT IS WORTHLESS - SERIOUSLY DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. If you look hard enough you will find a number of people experiencing the exact same problem.

sadly another buggy/flaky product
by turbo323 on November 18, 2010
Pros: Good in theory, user interface is ok and would be good if it was reliable
Cons: Same issues as others: often need to pair/unpair, disconnect/connect, power cycle, ignition off etc. to get it to work. Tried with different phones no difference (HTC HD2, TP2 and iPhone 3GS). Tried all firmware up to 251. Alpine support useless.
Summary: avoid like the plague given the investment in terms of effort required for car audio installation.

Very disappointing
by asdfadsfsadf on August 18, 2010
Pros: Sound good when its running.
Cons: Works after pairing but disconnects and does not reconnect when you turn off the car. Seems to be a pervasive problem. Reports of poor support from Alpine.
Summary: Not ready for prime time. Hoping Alpine offers solution. Id hold off buying it until you hear better things from actual users.

Dissapointing.
by MFMauceri on August 15, 2010
Pros: Installation fairly simple.
Cons: It just doesn't work (especially iPhone). Bluetooth calls permanently disable music, until unit is reset. Randomly switches from Head unit USB connection to bluetooth, requiring more reconfiguring while driving. iPhone 4.0 beware!
Summary: Half-baked product; disappointing. Alpine technical support useless at best.

Very flaky, most functions unreliable day to day.
by temp1977 on August 9, 2010
Pros: Came pre-installed so can't comment on installation ease. In principle the functionality looks enticing, it is natural to merge phone kits with car stereo head units, especially given most peoples music is now on their ipod/iphones.
Cons: Most functions don't work reliably in day to day use.
Summary: Unfortunately this kit is flaky and unreliable. It only pairs with my iphone 3GS on around 50% of occasions without having to nudge either the phone or the head unit ...
Summary: Unfortunately this kit is flaky and unreliable. It only pairs with my iphone 3GS on around 50% of occasions without having to nudge either the phone or the head unit to pair again. If you've plugged in the cable first, and music has started playing, the phone sync will interrupt music playback. Solution is to plug in and out the iphone again, but you'll probably be pulling onto the motorway by then... Music playback only returns after a phone call in around 50% of the time, others the unit freezes up, needing a power on and off. I've flashed up the latest version of the firmware as instructed by Alpine (a remarkably trouble free process), but no improvement. I also upgraded the phone to iOS4, but this made things much worse. Now the only way to make the music work through the cable is to plug in the phone first, and then power down and up the iphone again. A known problem on the forums.
The bluetooth streaming does work sometimes, but in an entirely unpredictable manner, with poor sound quality and without any control from the head unit.
To see the "designed for Apple" logos is just rubbing salt in the wound. Apple, Alpine and Parrot, this product is a disgrace. -
expensive but worth it
by sanjaystuart on October 8, 2009
Pros: Excellent sound quality, for making a call and receiving calls. Powered from car battery no need to worry about charging the unit... Works well with my iphone 3g, takes 30 seconds to pair once I turn my ignition on.
Cons: $349 AUD is expensive. I have it hooked up with my ida-x305 alpine unit.

works great
by markemark98611 on March 14, 2011
Pros: works perfect
Cons: You have to read the directions, which only seems to be a con if you can't read

Summary: you people who are saying it disconnects after turning off the car need to learn to read, you are pairing with the guest acount, you must pair with address 1-4 to retain, a 5th guest address is available for your passenger, etc. if you dont follow directions you will pair as a guest, that yes, is deleted when you turn off the car
